[Spoiler] Sian is On the Road again

More warfare lessons from the school of hard knocks. Using a GG for a C3 Morale Infantry is one thing, advancing it with the rest of the 1-movers into assuredly waiting collateral damage on open ground is another :S

I'm not sure what his plan is, though I presume that he was expecting/hoping that Greenline would join in right away, which he hasn't. Greenline lost a lot of troops at the end of the last conflict, and while he has built his Soldier rating back up, there may not be a large force there. I suspect that at minimum he'll sit out a few turns to let pickle take the brunt of the counter and then maybe get involved if it looks like I'm losing ground or large numbers of troops.

Back to picklepikkl; I think he had enough Rails in place to hit Hobbes with his Cavs from where they are still holed up in his cities, so I would have thought the right vector would have been to take the city with 2-movers and then stuff with Infantry and wait for a counter - which I probably wouldn't have been able to make powerful enough against ths stacks of Infantry. As-is, it looks like he's hedged which way to send his Cavs to draw off a portion of my forces - but now he's still got a long slog over flatland to bring his 1-move stack into play against Maimonides. Also, none of the advancing stacks have MGs with them, though he does have them available and stacked in his cities.

Still, were I him I'd probably have waited for Tanks or a larger Air Force to swing the odds.

Two questions for REM / Lurkers:

1) What are the rules on Spies for this game?

2) if a second round is going ahead, will it be on the same map again (which would be interesting to see how everyone adjusted picks / strategies), or on a different map?

No official position on game 2 other than 'it would be cool to have a winners losers pbem to have games after that are a bit more equal'.

I put the question out on spies on putting points up so we could get an idea but got limited response. I kinda turned into semi game admin following the map build. I'll see if I specified anywhere else... I don't think I explicitly mentioned it though sorry. What's happened or what are you planning?

Yeah I couldn't find anything, but I didn't look very hard. I've been assuming it was either a no Spies or a no Active Missions game, since those are the general rules used here and not been thinking much about it until recently.

Nothing has happened nor is anything particularly planned; but it occurred to me that pickle's attack could probably have been better coordinated* if he had a couple of Spies running around ... and from there I figured it would probably be a good idea for me to get a couple of my own out to check on Greenline's troop dispositions - if it was allowed.

* Subject to brilliant plan emerging from initial stack wipe.

1. I don't know if a rule was officialy set. I know I was certainly working off the basis of them being banned entirely.

2. Much like our loved admin, REM, has pointed out, it was not really set in stone. The idea was pondered and everyone seemed to be up for it. I know multiple people, including myself, took this into account with our decisions in the game (i.e. playing for second once winning was not achievable). I suppose I had imagined a different map, but I had not really thought about it.

Well I'm happy to carry on into the losers bracket for round 2 if that helps. I was thinking that this should be over soon and maybe a mapmaker could be getting a head start... mischief

I'd like to be certain on Spies, but I guess it can't really be brought up at this point without exposing the idea. I guess the only way to deal with it would be REM posting in the Tech thread about it - I guess affirming that they are banned.

All in the valley of Death Rode Walked the six hundred:

'Forward, the Light Brigade! Charge for the guns' he said:

Into the valley of Death Rode Walked the six hundred.

'Forward, the Light Brigade!' Was there a man dismay'd ? Not tho' the soldier knew Some one had blunder'd:

Theirs not to make reply, Theirs not to reason why, Theirs but to do & die, Into the valley of Death Rode Walked the six hundred.

(7 Cannon and 4 Cavs traded for his stack. Not enough left to hit his NE stack with force, but I hit with 3 Cannon to take the edge off any attack and found enough units to prevent him taking the city. The Cav stack can do some damage, but probably only at the cost of its own life.)

Not entirely sure that this was a worthwhile trade given the hammer differential between our civs:
