I was like ya worker micro that's what I'll focus on. Followed by instead doing intense tile micro. In my last picture you see a sign for Dead Horse to work the lake tile. HOWEVER, it fell 2 food short of growing time period capital was next whipped. So I wanted to figure out a way for it to take the crab. I also wanted to figure out a way to get a worker out of Press Gang a turn earlier. I lose 1h in decay for the vulture there and delay it by a turn to do so though. I'm PRETTY sure Bing just has a bunch of skirms and maybe 1 metal unit, so I'm still not too worried, but again only because Bloody Rose is one of the best natural fortresses you can get.
I'm actually thinking about delaying my next settler whips by a turn apiece. Partially to keep economy going to finish Meditation in time / start push to sailing. Partially more efficient tile usage. Partially due to the delayed vulture. Partially to finish the gold the turn Press Gang grows back to size 3. That also I think gives me enough worker labor to actually have trade up at city 6 "R" when its settled. I'm usually speed speed speed, but I think that's enough 'partially s" to delay?
Current micro for those curious.
T58 capital takes oasis for 1 turn, capital takes pig 1T, 5th takes crab 1 turn, 3rd puts settler in, start worker in 2nd
T59 5th works horse, cap works cottage, 2nd takes oasis & put vulture back in. 3rd puts monument in to grow & retakes pig,
T60 capital works grassland forest to grow to 6, move warrior from DH to garrison capital on T61
T61 capital starts settler, 2nd works wheat, make sure 3rd working FP
T62 cap whips settler (delay a turn? & switch off settler for growth), 3rd vulture, whip 2nd, arrange tiles
T63 5th takes crab, capital works cottage
T64 whip 3rd for settler (delay a turn? keep on settler for production? but still switch pig so 2 pop? * note probably grow it instead for future whip purposes), 5th off crab, cap takes crab and pig (1t), 2nd takes wheat
I swear I'm not intensely staring at this border while bringing my scout back home from SD and other one back to this border. I'm PRETTY sure Bing is just expanding though and had some units finish pre putting settlers in. I didn't really appreciate getting city vision my first few games, but its the only thing keeping me from whipping my sweet micro away. You'll note Big Coffee has been at 4 for a while so its probably on a settler. I did put 1 turn into a vulture so it can be whipped down there and I pushed back the timeline for Bloody Rose settler by 1 turn. I'm still debating on the capital whip. You'll see I also started the burn for mediation. There is a chance the monument in Bloody Rose isn't needed for culture, but the happy will still be appreciated. Since I'm whipping Press Gang there is actually probably close to an even chance Bloody Rose will get.
Down south I took a risk with my scout to get city vision on Gingers horse city. It looks like he has to use chariots for MPs.
I wasn't going to report this turn, but this is too funny. Jack and SD have enforced peace and Jack is pillaging old Pin improvements. Love everything about it. The key in any civ4 MP game with SD is don't be the first person to piss him off, because he will ignore everything else for forever to hurt you. Anyways, I'll assume Jack is SDs nearest neighbor and just saute him. I'm thinking of settling that greedy spot again......
Bings power isn't going up and I have vision to his one city at least. Both cities I can see are at size 4. Ginger is at his max happy cap as well in the cities I can see. He picked up sailing. I'll be happy to get some nice KTBs there hopefully.
Got Cornflakes graphs; has good demos for only being on 3 cities. Him and Bing are the only ones still at 3. Cairo is recently on 4 while Jack is on 5. I think I am going to delay the capital settler whip as well. It just makes sense from a tile utilization aspect.
You get song early as I won't probably report again until 7th city founded.
Religion popped in Bloody Rose. Will make that city into an even better fort. Press Gang would have been fine too though.
I have to admit to being a coward and an idiot. This turn Ginger sent me crab for fish (which I snap actually accepted). I should have sent this to them the turn I noticed they got sailing. I had played a morning turn yesterday and noticed Ginger power spike and whipped settler at capital soonest I could so overflow would finish spear this turn instead of next. Part of the power increase was sailing and prob a galley. Ah well, it was more whip timer efficient if less tile efficient. Also, will delay getting the desert gold online.
I sent both Ginger and Bing a message "me war with SD" them war with literally everyone they met. Basically indicating I want to push at SD. Which I 100% do. My Ginger border will actually be more stable than the length would indicate. If we go back to my stable border tenants, one of them is that there just isn't a lot to fight over. The only tense spot will be whenever Ginger settles the cow, but I imagine that won't be for a while.
Anyways Renzo will have 3 food resources basically, but past that I'm not sure what to do with it! Short term worker pump. Long term produce a scientist? A small part of me is annoyed there is no way to irrigate that wheat later.
7th city founded. For first time since city 3 I beat Ginger. We both settled 6th city on T65. Diplo efforts are in full effect. Both Bing and Ginger responded positively to my war messages. Both of them basically saying its ok by them if I focus more on SD front. Ginger as mentioned sent the fish for crab. Bing had writing and had opened borders with Fable and Cornflakes (pre having sailing although he just got). Anyways so I offered open borders the first turn worker was on forest to be chopped for my city. After a couple log ins Bing did accept, which will be nice for me. I get both trade in 4 turns and also peace of mind. Bing also gets peace of mind long term (and short he had two workers I very much was tempted to steal). Bing settled 4th city this turn and will settle 5th next turn. Assuming sea connects to his other cities I am a little surprised there isn't a work boat ready to improve that crab. He has a plethora of military he doesn't need atm, probably could have built a workboat to be there on time ( I do expect one is incoming).
I'm first in food. Just got gold online (I'm super late but I blame the hill desert), so economy is doing ok. I was actually somewhat surprised Bonnie Diamond got trade, but not complaining.
The big question is of course who gets the fish marble island. Its 7 tiles from both our caps (if you don't settle on marble). If he settles it creates all kinds of awkwardness where both of us have to have ships in the seas (me to protect crab and him to settle / protect fish). So I'm hoping he just doesn't . I can always canal in so it doesn't make a lot of sense for him long term either; even if he doesn't know/guess about early triremes.
Edit: if you don't like this song there is something wrong with you.
For the second time this game Ginger war peaced me while I was on . He did ask if I was done moving both times to be fair to him, but still a little odd. I'm assuming he doesn't have the units to properly cover his workers at his new cow city (settled 1T after me). I'm curious why hes chopping forest now instead of both improving cow and then cover with 1 spear, but eh. I'm super happy about peace because with a road on cow suddenly he can threaten Dead Horse with chariots. I was going to 1 pop whip a spear next turn there, which now I don't have to do! I was initially surprised by cow city being this early for him and thought it was mostly to prevent me from grabbing (which again with that terrain it just wasn't in the cards), but actually with how many good tiles are around there, I like the decision.
Bing went from 3 cities to 6 in just a few turns!!! Which he 100% needed to do to be fair. I keep expecting our expansive people to jump like that, and so far nope. I still wonder about two workers farming a grassland river tile when surely there are better uses with three new cities. Again he should just have a work boat there. I'm super annoyed Bing is creative though. I was going to one pop whip a galley out of Bonnie Diamond, but one of Bings new cities gets both the marble and fish second ring. I probably won't go for...... Just delay chop and have it go into granary instead.
Two part report. First song is more commonly referred to as "A Drop of Nelsons Blood", but I've opted for this version. Sean Dagher has a shanty of the week version with some possible history.
This city will be what is probably supposed to be Bings central island spot. I want to take a moment to wonder at why this island seems more accessible for my opponents than the one on the other side where there is 0% chance I could get to / hold even one spot. ANYWAYS.
Lets do some good news bad news in internal development.
- BAD: Giinger settled 8th T70 I believe. GOOD: I'll be at 11 on T80 (maybe 12).
- BAD: Bing got the marble island. Like this is really bad. If this island was supposed to be contested like I thought than I'm a little miffed both resources could be reached from his side. I technically could have contested the marble from the plains hill, but then I would miss the dye. GOOD: I'm trading for the island spot. Will he see it this way; probably not! I do have scout around to make sure there isn't anything incoming, but I didn't see anything T74.
- GOOD: I just researched Priesthood. Oracle will start T78 at capital. BAD: unsure of when first Ziggurat will be built, but "soon".
- BAD: My religion seems to refuse to spread. I've gotten 1 spread to Bing...... I love org religion but I may delay to first GA if I don't get some spreads fast.
- Good: Demos - specifically food.
Overall my traits are starting to finally kick in. With extra happy I've just started really over whipping. Obviously the whole combo I picked around is starting to come into play with org zigs. Again, would probably be better on a larger map /shrug.
I'm hoping Gingers chariot over there bugs off before peace treaty is over. I actually panicked T74 before I realized I had a peace treaty still......
Going to do a quick city overview of important ones.
-Drunken Sailor - poorly developed historically, but with a lot of tile micro it hasn't been an issue. Basically any time I've had to work non developed tiles I've been either putting settlers in / whipping them so it doesn't hurt to work forested tiles. The mine JUST finished. Even though it doesn't look it pretty soon I think 4/5 mainland workers will be there for Oracle work. Recently its had both 5F resources.
-Press Gang - it might LOOK like it was a mistake not to settle on the dye. After all I have exactly 1 work boat for this expansion instead of the 3 I need (to be fair I just found out about the fish and crab; although the crab I kind of figured). HOWEVER, it has had the oasis probably 85% of the time. It also just popped borders T74, so it would just now be working fish and just now be improving gold. I think it was correct to settle where I did especially with PH plant. The dye has also been a good tile to work and obviously it was connected at time of settle. Will be producing settler for my 12 city which will be plains wheat city.
-Bloody Rose - talk about a city that has been over whipped recently. I currently has 2 full unhappy faces and it will soon have 3! Bing can see all these galleys leaving. I'm basically using them as a defense force temporarily. It will also be responsible for more work boats. Pretty sure it will be T77 next whip.
-Dead Horse - Has a decent shot of building first Ziggurat. Really only including because I find it funny that it will only work the fish for 1 turn /shrug. It has enough good tiles after lighthouse complete that its fine.
A couple of games have good compilations if you are just starting down the rabbit hole of Sea Shanties. Anyways, obviously this city will be the one with 3!!! fish (I probably will settle a city to steal the 3rd the turn border pops).
Fish in the Sea
Player stuffs, in order of me caring? I've done T75 analysis before and the thing you want to look for is AT LEAST 6 cities to be competitive going forward. I decided on analysis then graphs.
Ginger (8) - When he war peaced me in real time he was mentioning he did some kind of live civ4 games? So maybe not the green I thought I had. Has proven adept at expanding much to my annoyance. Is he our lone masonry player atm? He just chopped a forest outside of border instead of one inside, so assuming mids as predicted and other forest chops incoming. I'll show GNP in a bit, but ya he needs to somehow afford.
Bing (7) - Went from 3 to 7 cities recently, which he needed to do. Really annoying BOTH of my close neighbors seem to be doing well enough. I am about to punish his slow expansion a bit, but still Bing is doing fine. I don't know if his civ starting techs just hurt that much with slow development, but one of the benefits of running good stuff is that if you fall behind its still ok.
SD (5) - Resident rusher seems to be trying to tech to something to not crash his economy with only 5 cities? I ran this exact leader and if I hadn't been in constant war (with SD ironically) I think Ind would have been a fine econ trait, but I really had to work at it. Is SD going for mids, GLH, or Oracle into MC? I'm obviously concerned with the last because that is what I want! With his graphs if I was him I would probably be doing GLH because you get to do normal techs. Mind he does have SH for a prophet so religious line might be tempting. 5 cities is LOW for T75 though, so he needs to do something soon.
Fable (7) - recently to 7, but still not bad. Not sure how much of that slowness was due to Conflakes vs being new. Exp should technically have started booming before me. Hasn't lost a city to Conflakes, which is pretty impressive for a green.
Cornflakes (5) - With 5 cities and his traits he needs to take something soonish? Mind you his graph data is insane for 5 cities. I'm guessing he grew tall, but hasn't taken a city from Fable yet, so ya needs to do some work. I'm wondering if Cornflakes is NE of the island as there is a 1st ring fish there no one has grabbed, but if he expanded towards fable would make sense.
JackRB (5) - of leaders to be at 5 cities Victoria is one you can come back with. Its possible you are actually supposed to play her slower than I um typically do. You know building these things called workers and cottages. I still think 5 might be a little low for T75 though. If I had been paying slightly more attention I would have had graphs on this turn, but ah well.
Cairo (5) - I mentioned I thought maybe Cairo chose traits to make up for usual slow early game, but still seems to be in slow early game. Its possible Cairo is doing some kind of tall strat like Cornflakes to avoid economic collapse and will soon be expanding, but ya needs to get going.
Graphs:
Food
You can see Ginger and I constant competition as well as the fact Cornflakes was leading for a while and is still doing good in.
GNP
Here you can see why I think Ginger needs to do something economically. You can also see Cornflakes casually competence. I really wonder if he was supposed to not go to war even with his traits. Just keep expanding? Anyways, I'm about to TANK for a little. Good times.
Prod
I've been turning food into production. Fact Ginger is high in both is pretty gnarly. Have I mentioned I'm kind of glad Cornflakes is in a war in which he hasn't taken a city yet.
Power
I'm no longer embarrassing. Have I mentioned I'm glad I'm not Cornflakes target?
Ginger didn't hop on immediately this turn, so maybe he is trying to do something here? Me going first this turn meant he can't really come back at me though.
I've been pretty good in past games about owning mistakes, but I have kind of um stopped because who likes doing that?
I'm really kicking myself for not whipping a workboat out of Renzo turns ago when it hit 3. I figured there would be a 1st ring food somewhere and the fish I discovered if I had hooked up right away would have changed everything. I think I would have put Maoi there. Now I think I'll just do it in the obvious Dead Horse. One of those sooner vs best spot situations /shrug. It also would have meant I didn't need both workers at Renzo and could have sent 1 back earlier.
Renzo was a tough city. The micro worked out really well to finish the FP farm growth wise. Then it made sense to keep both there for wheat, but ya basically prioritizing Renzo not only put one of my new cities behind it also means I was behind worker labor around capital.
I'm just rolling with that though. Instead of chopping 4 forests into Oracle I'm just going to do 3 and get a plains hill mine up. I maybe still could have done 4, but I decided to accelerate the 12 city by a turn by roading the wheat and the actual tile. This has nothing to do with Ginger being up to 9 I swear!
Speaking of Ginger, I realized last turn I had the opportunity with Dead Horse borders expanding next turn that I COULD have settled the tip of the other central island. Its still super tenuous of a spot though and I'm already stretching my military pretty thin.
Lot of other people went on expansion sprees after my T75 report. Notable one is Jack. Although his GNP is WAY lower than Vicky's should be even before expanding. Bing going from 3 to 8 is pretty nice. I haven't seen any ships so I did the obvious thing I missed on T75 and have just been working copper until Bloody Rose grows back to 6, so I can just keep working the copper.

No one is going to call me an idiot really? Come on people WAKE UP!!!!! The 3rd fish is 2 NW and can't be reached from that location. I'll have to get from the mainland later.
T79
I mainly realized T78 I should have included a song with that report....... OOPs.
Windy Old Weather
This city will be over by Fable. I can see his culture on diagonal.
I've been mulling heavily over Maoi and GLH. I obviously have the decision of soonest vs best Maoi, which I said was decided, but I'm indecisive........ The math just heavily favors Dead Horse.
UNLESS
I'm serious about GLH....... With how CtH is protective is the best trait for GLH. However, if I'm willing to put up with the diplo hit, Org Sumeria wouldn't be a bad candidate to build because I can probably get city vision of my neighbors..... eventually......
Somehow typing that out made it clearer I should probably go for Maoi first and just build GLH after slowly and be fine either way with result. Then I just have to resist using Fish in the Sea as a fishing whipping post and actually build econ infrastructure there....... (trust me very rare for my fishing villages, but with two beaver I think this is a case for not doing that).
