Update: We are almost certainly dead, but we are also still somehow 5th in power. So if Commodore decides to join in, we can be of pretty major assistance. That is still the hope - don't have much else to hope for, at this point. On the bright side, I think a determined resistance has done a decent amount of damage to Pindicator's long-term prospects, relative to something like the Commodore-Bing war.

Update WITH PICTURE
... of demographics. Somehow, with four cities and an era (or more?) behind in tech to the field, we're still fourth in power.
I've kept my army together and have just been slowly retreating whenever Pindi gets enough force to push us off our hill. Rinse and repeat a few times and we're down to four cities that are unhappy at Size 1 from whipping - The End Is Near.
I am relatively happy with how I've played this. I haven't done much apparent damage to Pindicator, like razing cities or killing attackers. I'm sure a better player could have managed something. But I don't really have the right brain for that sort of thing; it's not how I tend to play games. What I have done is instead is bog him down significantly, which can be seen from his score relative to other contenders. Compare the effort that Pindicator has had to make to eat us with the Commodore-Bing war, for example, and I feel pretty content with my defense in terms of long-term cost to the attacker. On the other hand, death is assured at this point. Theoretically if Commodore joined in we could still play a major role, but that's seems... unlikely.
I am not sure if Pindicator's combination excellent leader/civ combo, religious shrine, and yes great civ ability is enough to win from here. It probably is, if enough goes right. His score and city count are competitive, at least. But I think it's a lot less likely now than it was at the start of the game. I guess that's a (pseudo)-win for poor old NMFC? It's probably more than the real club have accomplished in the last few years.
On the bright side, life expectancy is apparently 68, which is actually quite astonishing given the conditions our 'Empire' suffers.

I have to admit to wondering about a naming theme based off of a club that never wins.

One last post before scooter potentially takes over.
The remnants of a once mighty semi-relevant empire huddle in their final mainland stronghold. None will get out alive. It's all a bit 'Viking Funeral,' really.
A mighty host of orcs Pindicator's troops bear down - the end is nigh.

Also: in true North Melbourne FC fashion, we are 'barracking' for Piccadilly here, the clear massive underdog. He is stuck between multiple contenders and it's hard to see how he avoids being dogpiled, but it would be incredible if he wins.
Embracing the football spirit, we Hate everyone else. Commodore stood by and watched us die, and Pindicator is an aggressive bloodthirsty monster. Miguelito afaict got very lucky with his neighbours starts/performances (a caveat to any comments on opponents getting lucky, like Miguelito and Pindicator: yes they also played well! You can be lucky and good at the same time). Gavagai is, I think(?), the current frontrunner and has done nothing to annoy me. But here at NMFC we fully embrace tall poppy syndrome, so we hate him too.
It would also be extremely cool if Plemo managed a comeback from here, but I don't think that's realistic.

Hi Amicalola, I had to read your thread first! Really enjoyed the Australian football explanations. I remember one of the cable sports channels my parents had used to have the games late at night and I never really figured out the rules.
Thanks for your thread and I hope we get to see you in more games. I think we already hashed out what happened in our thread, but you definitely made the game difficult for us - and if it's a silver lining your defense kept us from winning in the end. Just too far back / not able to catch up after. Anyway, always a pleasure to have you in games here!
