Yes, it probably was a bit too ambigious, but I'm still learning dancing

Anyway, I hereby present you: The destruction of the invading Japanese army

So, as the readers know already, scooter attacked me, after our tensions never really backed down after he took Bishan from me.

Well, this time, my army was ready. Or almost ready. But when his declaration of war came in, I was able to march into good terrain, offered him a strike onto my troops which he declines (forest+hills)

I saw that his troops were consisting of a fairly large amount of mounted troops, and I did bring enough Impi's this time, so I risked to move onto the hill 9 of Bishan.

I expected his attack. It didn't came.

Bishan has hastly built city walls, which took a turn to remove.

I expected his attack this turn, it must have come. Or, fleeing Bishan and getting ready in Yishun, where his troops would be able to attack me on flat terrain.

No, he kept his army in Bishan.

I really don't understand why he decided to take a stand in Bishan. I mean, I did wrong decisions myself in PB games, where the outcome was bad for me, but I literally destroyed his full army while losing what, 20% of my army? Actually I believe even less..

Wave after wave of his troops fell after my heavy catapult artillery decimated them. With his army lost, he retreated, with my troops following him. I liberated Yishun. Destroyed his navy, followed by a Naval landing, took his capital (3 fields South of "The Show", marched onto "The Show"), now marched onto his 3rd last city.

Gavagai, very opportunistic, grabed a city from scooter as well, and force-demanded Lucky Plaza from me. I had to hand it over, for now - getting the war done against Scooter is of higher priority. I'll have crossbows in place when the peace treaty with Gavagai expires, so he better not try anything funny by then. And once scooter's Empire is fully incorporated, I should hopefully be able to look too tough for anyone, at least for the time being. I'm a realist, I know that once bigger guns (Cannons, Rifles) come into play, my troops will be overrun, I'm too far behind tech-wise.

But being able to at least stand my ground against Rome and taking on the Japanese, I think I prove I'm not such an easy target wink

The newly liberated lands. Scooter is down to 2 cities now.

Northern core - including Lucky Plaza which I had to concede to Gavagai.. at least for the moment..

Southern core

As you can see, I'm researching Archery. I want some crossbows (and eventually longbows) to counter any pre-gunpowder units asap, till hopefully my new lands mean I'm somehow able to catch up tech-wise. For sure this won't work out, but I'm trying my best to keep playing the game. After I lost Yishun and later Bishan, I knew I won't anyhow compete for the top positions in this game.. but it's still fun.

Gavagai who made fast progress against xist10 (no pity there, shouldn't have tried to rush me wink ) had an early, huge empire. And Picca, who seemingly had an early war (?) and after that settled a large Empire mostly peaceful from what I understand, are both two large neighbors I try to look as tough as possible so they won't want (another) bite of me. Lucky Plaza was a decision made by brain, not by heart, but at that moment I wanted to push further against Scooter, and didn't want to have to move my whole army back to defend. Now, when the peace treaty eventually runs out, I should have handled Scooter and have my army ready again, hopefully without much loses, so Gavagai won't try another bite...

As you can see from the first screenshot, scooter had an archer (and an axe) defending his 3rd last city. I believe he actually had crossbowmen ready for exactly the turn I took his capital and cut his iron off - so they didn't get produced. If he can secure Iron somewhere else, he might still be able to squeeze out a few of them, but I believe my current army can handle whatever he has left. (I believe about 4 horse archers, 2 elephants, a few axes, a few catapults)

Having masses of Impis with decent promotions luckily make (and made) his mostly mounted army much less of a danger as it otherwise would have been.

Unless Scooter has some hidden army somewhere, that's his last stand. On the mainland, it is.

I finally figured out where his last city is: On an island...

Not sure I can even reach it, since his capital had border extensions giving him access - but potentially denying me to cross over the Ocean. Unless there is an all-coast passway south of Rain.

Well, next round we'll know.

Scooter can't really hurt my stack much, if that's all he has left. Two catapults, two axes, four horse archers, two war elephants..

btw: Historically, today is the "Fall of Singapore" to Japan. Well, not in this timeline! (It's nowadays commemorated as Total Defence Day)

The good news: Scooters second last city has fallen without me losing any units in the attack. He killed a single Impi in his attack onto my stack beforehand. Nothing I couldn't replace..

The bad news: His last city is indeed on an island, and has Moai, so it's definitely a strong city for him.

The ugly news: Yeah, see the screenshot. The general is going to be tough to defeat..

On the other hand, I guess cut his island off pretty well, ship over some macemen soon enough, and they shouldn't have much issues to cut down even that uber elite General archer and whatever more archer he can produce. That will prolong the war in any case (I don't have much transport capacity, as it was crucial to rule the waves and deny him to land troops in my back, not land troops myself so far..) but with an island lacking any ressources, he can't even import from other players. So, he can build bowmen and catapuls, I suppose. I hope he doesn't get any longbows eventually.. (I stopped spending spy points on him a while ago and lost his tech research, as I correctly assumed I'd not know his tech anymore after he did made machinery in the same turn I took his capital. He can properly make about 20 beacon/round now, possibly a few more. Not sure how close he is/was to Feudalism, but I doubt he could get it within less than 15 turns. I should have some macemen by that time visiting his holiday island. But I'll have to see.. worst case, we stick in a war situation forever, but with me barely contributing much effort to it, as he's locked away on his island.

That's what I was thinking about the last couple hours (besides swimming in the pool, having a massage and getting moderately sunburnt)

Basically, I've got several options right now.. going to spell them out in a bit, the next beer is calling urgently first..
