RB PBEM #1 - Mehmed (SPOILERS!)

Answering late: The screenshots are great, and at least this member of the audience has been a non-participant because your thoroughness obviated the need for questions! (And, as someone else points out upthread, there's a limited amount we can ask at this stage of the game that won't have the sort of "Krill" effect you mentioned...)

t27 - Lots to tell this turn: Northern Scout pops the sighted hut for Fishing, but spots athlete's Scout nearby. Will send him a quick message later to try and smooth things over.

In the East, we discover an expanse of salt water beside Ruff's borders. Can't tell if he's settled on the coast, but it does perhaps knock my assumptions about the shape of the world.

And thecity of Edirne was founded on the marked Desert hill. The Bear had come to investigate, so I'm expecting it will be bumped out of my borders next turn? The Warrior headed out to circle the neighbourhood and get a bit more info, while Daisy is 3t from finishing the road connection, then will start cottaging.

That's some pretty impressive scouting for this early in the game

A few more tidbits from the turn: Tim finished connecting the Horses at Istanbul, and will move to put a cottage on the open Grassland next turn. My Southwestern Scout killed a Wolf on the interturn, now at 0.7/1 but decided to keep pushing West until the next forest/jungle hill is reached for healing.

I can tell from the diplo screens that Edirne is the first non-capital city to be founded (it started to build a Granary). I'm a little surprised about that especially with m_h's Imperialistic trait (although Aachen has grown to size4, probably to work more hammer tiles for the bonus).

Istanbul will start on my second Settler next turn, after which I'll probably queue up a third Worker and maybe whip it after revolting to Slavery (BW is due to complete around the time the second Settler sets off).

Oh, and a message sent to athlete:

Quote:Greetings Saladin,

I hope you're not offended by my Scout grabbing that Hut before you
reached it, I didn't see him until I was entering the village.

How are your exploration efforts going? This is the first of your
units I've seen. You should send someone in my direction, it's turning
into a regular party over here!

Dreylin.

Oh, I forgot to mention that there's a Wolf hanging out 2tiles North
of my Scout. Probably not a threat, but just thought I should make you
aware.

Dreylin.

Well I'm not ashamed to admit that I got lucky with my early Huts in that respect; my first popped a Scout and then in the next 3or4 I got a second Scout and a (useful) map. Of course that then snowballs, which is why I have a treasury of 200+gold.

It's also likely a contributing factor to why I'm the first to found my second city, and will probably also be the first to three.

Quote:lol...I'm looking to find your place. I have yet to meet 2 civs so hopefully we'll see them soon. did you get anything interesting from the hut that you'd care to divulge?

Saladin aka Athlete

Ya I've seen it thanks!
and a reply:

Quote:Athlete,

Well I'm happy to give directions so you can join the party. Just head East from your lands, pass by Banana Lake and you should hit my borders soon enough.

The hut gave me Fishing; not the most useful tech for me at the moment, but better than a poke in the eye.

Dreylin.
and his quick note in response:

Quote:Ha Ha. Excellent well I'll send somebody on their way soon enough.

Word from m_h:

Quote:Hi Dreylin,
thanks for the invitationto the party. wink

I have no specific cooperation proposals at the moment.
As a sign of goodwill I will disclose to you that we have found the world to actually have an end to our west.
You might have found that out by yourself already, of course.

Cheers,

mh aka. Charlemagne
With a reply:

Quote:mh,

Well Istanbul is a happening place with plenty of visitors passing by.

I have found both the South and North of the map, and I strongly suspected there would be a Western edge but have yet to reach it; would you be prepared to give me an estimate of distance?

So mh has provided some concrete info:

Quote:Hi,
the western edge is 24 tiles west of Instanbul.
Care to give me an estimate on the northern and southern edge with respect to Istanbul?
Thanks.

mh
Consulting my map, that would put it 5tiles West of Mecca and 10tiles from Aachen - my Western Scout should be able to confirm this in the near future. Looking across to the other side, that also suggests that Ruff is probably pretty-much on the Eastern edge of the map (assuming I'm fairly close to the center).

Quote:mh,

Just consulting my map ... 24tiles W of Istanbul itself (not
borders?), interesting.

I can tell you that the Northern edge is 11tiles from Aachen, and the
Southern edge is 2(two) tiles from Istanbul - you have to be careful
not to party too hard, or you might fall off!

I just ran across this game here today. I'll enjoy watching the game progress. Thanks for the details. It makes the progress fun to read. Good luck!
On average, everybody thinks they are above average.

t28 - Bear Slayer kills a Wolf and is now at 0.4/1. Going to pause on the forested hill for a while to heal. Western Scout spots a Panther ... Hmmmm, current at 0.8/1 in a forest - think I'll stop and wait for it to attack 1t fortification + 1t healing shoul give me a better than average chance of survival.

Eastern Scout finds a dead-end North of Ruff, but also can see the far side of his salt water - so it's only a lake.

Warrior completes, Settler in 6t. Mining complete, BW in 5t.
