If we're going to split into two games, we could see if we can increase the participants to 5-6 as there were a few more potentially interested in joining right? Though 4 will work just as fine.

I play at Prince, I have some victories notched on Monarch, but intellectually dislike playing with larger discounts to the AI since it feels so weird for them to be able to do things I can't, even with perfect play. I can play in either game in all likelihood; Lewwyn?

4 is fine for a PBEM. We don't want a game that lasts and drags on for years.
 Also, no raging barbarians. Normal barbarians are fine. Feel free to pick the leaders if they're balanced enough. Also, the difficulty level we pick for the game doesn't necessarily correspond to our multiplayer ability. Although there is a rough correlation, I would guess.

OK, so we continue with setting up with 2*4-player games then
How about we compromise on the difficulty level @ Prince, leave SevenSpirits [and lurkers] to pick the 4 balanced Civ/leader combos as he designs the map [no blankets of forest if you include India mind ... unless I get that choice  ]?
