[Spoilers] Dtay's first PB: When you play a game of CIV, you win or you die

Jowy/The Black Sword (I should acknowledge his existence given he appears to be the turnplayer most of the time lol), just revolted to Slavery/OR. This means they are the ones who just got Monotheism. That's 2 religions. And built a wonder. Peaceniks over there.

Settler being whipped next turn, hopefully I can beat Jowy to the lake spot. He probably has a settler out right now since he revolted, I don't THINK it makes sense for him to invalidate my chosen city site with this next settler, it'd be pretty separated from his civilization and he can settle back a few spots and get copper+gold.

Given that in the initial version of last turn that I played before they did was pure happenstance, I don't think I really have more of a right to the hut than they do.

Caught up on the thread, and will be following along. Good sportsmanship, dtay, may it earn many returns in-game and out.

Ok so far so good. I whipped my settler this turn, my workers are out and about in danger but I'm managing to road to the new city site. I have an ax a bit ahead of my workers playing zone defense (I'm counting on that 1 space not having a wolf, I should be good given all the barbs currently wandering in the same area + I've seen these barbs before with my scout). Another ax is going to complete in EC next turn, and yet another in the capital after that. That should be enough to defend my city plant in the immediate future.

Scout is just maintaining visibility on the city site as well as giving me awareness of where Jowy's scout moves (it isn't visible in this picture, but it ended turn last turn on that grass hill 3w of my scout).

No sign of Jowy's 2 warriors, so they're probably either in the region up by the bronze where I last saw them or they turned around to go home. My bet is Jowy is settling decently far out from his civ for the metal next, probably by the bronze and the just-offscreen gold. I should be able to settle my PH spot NW of the lake and guard it with my axeman (and probably another ax following behind).

How far I get on roading depends on that lions movement, if it comes down onto the wines I'm going to have to stop, probably turn around and finish off the plains cow.

Here's a shot of the rest of my empire

Chopping out that library in SC to pop border, get the multiplier on the gold, and also start working on a GS.

So where exactly is your next city?

Planning to settle it on the PH NW of the lake, then quickly backfill my fifth city NW of the horses.

Ok, so Jowy is definitely settling in the vicinity of that copper in the next few (honestly probably this) turn. My scout found 2 workers and a warrior on the copper, copper already roaded.

This means Jowy is probably setting on this (or if he's somewhat inefficient with his workers the next) turn on a space adjacent to the copper. My feeling is the spaces NW, N, and NE are the best spots, all have ring 1 copper and ring 1 food. NE and N are fine for me in the short term, I can settle my plains hill spot on schedule. NW though invalidates where I want to settle. Ugh. Lets see what he does.

My scout is probably safe for now. Jowy could take a shot (he had 2 warriors in the area earlier), but I have woody 1 + forest defense + across river, so I have the odds. It'd be weird for him to attack like that for little gain and lots of risk.

At this point, speculating is a bit unnecessary, I can log in later today and see if/where he settles.

Its kind of funny that we both decided to plant far out in basically hte same area. Makes sense I guess though, he needs it for the metal (presumably), and I need it cause... idk its really good? There aren't many good food sources around, + getting marble means I could make a play on the Great Library or MoM.

Seperate note, I'm falling behind in GNP. I need to get that gold online and my academy up (and more cottages planted) quickly. That's the other priority i'm balancing with this whole aggressive (honestly, is it that aggressive? I guess Jowy/TBS and I are just being half aggressive in the same direction, sums up to aggressive) plant.

Went to check in this morning cause Jowy/TBS went and I wanted to see if there was news. There was.

I'm just going to leave this here...

The avoidance of ancient era warfare as the best long term has a lot in its favor. More growth start the snowball, its a line straight from the gospel of Sullla.

But sometimes, sometimes provocations are too much. Sometimes someone takes something that is rightfully yours, well really just yours, well actually just something you want.

We shall see next turn what defenses lurk in this new city of his, but if it is as I suspect, war may be on our horizon.
