[SPOILERS] Elum & mackoti; the tiles are always greener on the other start...

No time for a real update now, just advertising that one will be up tomorrow (hopefully). To include: Shiny new maps from trade with agent, reaching joint (~) first for crop yield, my take on the diplomatic scuffle between Dreylin and agent47 (agg rome!) and some potential border scuffles of my own.

Still no time to update but just for the record I cheated by double moving Grimace. I'm feeling pretty terrible about the whole thing, especially because he graciously doesn't want a reload. I thought what I was doing was correct because I thought he double moved me to get into that position but in hindsight that was not the case.

Sorry Grimace.

Must be doing something right if people are having a good time. twirl

About time for an update, I've not gone to great lengths to report on me learning to micro a civ, I think it's of little interest to most and not something a new player could learn from in my opinion. Anyway things look good.

Demos

My tech after currency, calendar has been IW -> MC -> COL -> Alphabet. I've been preparing for a golden age I thought I would have 10 turns ago but it never really came together but I should start it next turn for: Monarchy -> Feudalism -> Something. I will revolt to caste and produce some GPs, bulb philo and revolt to pacifism mid GA and remain in it till the next GA. I am unable to find out how much this cost me but I'm hoping vassalage will decrease it. Does anyone know how it works?

Overall my tech is likely terrible compared to the rest, especially to the as yet unmet CH and agent. Grimace seems to be raking it in. But I am not worried yet, my pyramids fuelled specialists are keeping me afloat and the specialists from the GA should be tasty beakers. My empire is bloated and expensive but a round of courthouses should be incoming. I was reading some PBEM 23 and they had a very low break even too so I don't feel too bad.

But to the fun.

To contextualise I don't think my position is all that strong. My pop lead works coast and I have no midgame traits, I am 3rd in land area. This until ~3t ago unsettled island thing is what I want to secure a future. To that end I have tooled some cities up for HA production and the feudalism tech should help out. I don't know if I will definitely burn Dreyin's city now, encirclement would do. Settlers will likely be whipped next turn. Will this provoke open war with Dreylin? I hope not. I have kept my troop numbers low on the borders but a large HA stack should hopefully deter him near our core cities. Hopefully Adrien will smell blood and chime in.

Beyond this I'm harbouring dark thoughts of a second GA, guilds and police state. How many knights I could build and the state of my neighbours will steer my course but without more land my time as number 1 will be short lived I fear.

In RtR mod, Vassalage pays for just as many free military units (that cost 1g a piece in Pacifism, although its really like, iirc, 0.7g per unit on Monarch difficulty) as it pays for regular unit costs. You can check this number in the civics screen; if you click on Vassalage there, it'll say something like"+20 free units" or whatever, with that number increasing as you gain more population. It should be a pretty decent savings if you're running Pacifism... I'd guess you'd save something like 25-30gpt total from unit savings, plus whatever you save on civic upkeep. I don't know what religious civic you're in now, but if its high-upkeep OR you could expect another 10-15gpt savings from that switching into no-upkeep Pacifism.

I think you're doing a good job, that nice CY lead you have should give you a lot of strength in the late game even if its currently working coast. thumbsup

Thanks man, I looked into what you said and it doesn't look like pacifism will cost very much. I fired the GA and my tech rate has nearly tripled. Also got what I think will be a 50-50 shot at a GE coming in 3 turns. Will try and get some pics up when the servers are back on.

Krill does do good mountains.

Don't know whether to strike now or build up. It's likely I can build up faster so that seems like a good idea. That city spot favours me heavily, I may occupy the hill to cut it off. I wonder how they will react. Likely they will think it is a bluff galley. Its not.

So, what's up? Going to wrap this up soon?

Hopefully in 17 turns I should be in a dominant position. Geography was kind to me this game I think.

Report should come in a few hours.

No report yet because Grimace is yet to play but I can back-track a little from memory. My overarching strategy is to cut Grimace in half, denying as much as I can to Whosit. My current force in country is just there to surround and pin down his forces, taking any targets of opportunity, and mop up with a stack of cats later. I misjudged my initial attack, thinking his force would be concentrated at his 'center of mass' nearer his capital, actually this may be the case but not within the range of a visibility HA on a hill. Instead a border city held units that I think was his defense against me, too far out to help in an invasion, but enough to thwart the small galley based force I sent. This has played to my advantage I think, even though I lost a crossbow to it.

On the economy front I popped a GA and revolted to mercantilism, one turned Construction and am now teching nationalism. I've got a GE saved for Taj, and may grab Lib if I can sort out some GS for bulbing education. I remember thinking I'd make a bit over 500 adjusted beakers a turn after Nationalism, giving me around 5000 beakers, enough for paper -> lib, take economics and start teching gunpowder. My dismal tech rate has been the main driver behind this war.

The plan is to build as much military as possible during this extended golden age to conquer Grimace then ipecac, failing that going all in on domination and revolting to Police state and Nationhood. I think looking at the game as it is if I conquer both my neighbors that would be it. Agent seems a bit bogged down with Adrien, after I thought he would be on a TBS fueled blitzkrieg there have been no captures and allot of whips. Plus CH seems to have jumped in. Whosit is the main worry but I can just carry on through Grimace if it comes to it.

Any questions? Requests for pictures in the actual report?

Just the zoomed out empire as a whole? And the war front(s)?
