Are you planning to pump out more military to counter Sulla?

Bold move Teh. Its good to see, that you also brought psychology into play (smoke and mirrors attack) and that you have reacted on the current situation with the plan to support your overall goals (slowing down Sullla, while increasing your production with Hansas. Crossing fingers that it helps.

Btw. strategic view allows even further zoom-out than normal one and I also like its cartoon-like color style.

I think the game looks better in strategic mode, its functionally equivalent to the normal UI except you can actually tell what the tiles are.

Despite my asking, I use Strategic View frequently to check for hills. I can't understand why they made them so hard to tell apart, especially when forested or jungled.
But in the end I can't get myself to play any amount of time in Strategic View, don'w know why, exactly.

Also love the War Declaration. I'm a lurker and easy to please!

I will, but I want to switch to the 50% production bonus policy (which will happen in 2 turns) so that I can get the units faster. I might delay them until some of the Hansas are in place.

Quick update: Sullla has captured Archduke's capital now. eek

You're certainly making this game exciting! Good luck!

Btw, I didn't even know the "Strategic View" exists before reading your thread, so thanks for showing that! I mostly use it for getting an overview, less for actual playing. I think the main thing it lacks are some nice drawings for the units. If it had that, I'd probably be using it all the time!

It looks like the strategic view is more popular than any one of us thought!

I just played the new turn and the new report (2 turns) should be up quite soon. Expect a lot of action!

Turn 79

First thing, I claim the first great scientist:

That boosts Education (the tech that enables universities in this game). I move the GS to my unfinished campus next to Aachen and park it there. As planned, Aachen also finishes it granary and grows to size 6, so it picks up the grassland hill. 3 grassland hills (2f3p), 1 plains hill (1f4p), 1 horse pasture (2f3p1culture) and 1 rice (5f) make a really strong core of tiles in Aachen. My production is up to 25.2/turn here. Next build is the campus (5 turns) so that I can activate the GS. Since I declared war on Sullla, Stockholm (the scientific city-state) is also at war with me (Sullla is the suzerain there) and I lose the +2 science from it, so I need to get my science up more.

Ulm is about to grow to size 2, so I make a micro move and move its citizen from cattle (3f) to the truffles (2f1p3g). It doesn't affect the growth, but reduced the granary build to 19 turns from 28, and the 3g from the truffles are certainly welcome!

Frankfurt finishes its monument. I start working on its Hansa (7 turns).

I notice an increase in Sullla's empire score and a corresponding decrease in Archduke's. Looking at the domination victory screen, I notice that it shows that Sullla has captured a capital... Well more motivation for me to attack Sullla, I guess.

Here's the Aquileia front. The moves are marked by blue and archer shots are red arrows. I move 4 archers closer, 3 of which were able to shoot at the city center (though not for any major damage - check the numbers). I also move the warrior south. Finally, the slinger is upgraded (orange circle).

Turn 80

Defensive Tactics is completed. I use the free policy change to do the following swaps:

Colonization is replaced by Caravansaries for some extra gold. Inspiration is not needed anymore with the great scientist out, so I replace it with the freshly available Limes for building city walls (mainly in the center) for free. I skip Ilkum for now because I'm not going to build any builders in the next 5-10 turns. I also skip Agoge for now. Recall that I have a single turn left in the Military Training civic, so the plan is to finish city walls in the center, while researching Feudalism (15 turns without the 6 farm boost), and finish Military Training in 1 turn once the city walls are built so that I can swap to Agoge for building military. Depending on the situation, that would be the time to switch to Ilkum from Caravansaries for cheaper builders (mainly to be used for Ulm - I need to mine the iron there to boost Iron Working for some - after the boost, it should be researched in only a single turn or two since I already researched almost half of it).

I receive a DOW notification... but not from Yuris! It's from Vilnius, the city state south of Aquileia. Sullla managed to get 3 envoys there so he becomes the suzerain, triggering the DOW for both me and Archduke from Vilnius. Annoying, but not the worst thing in the world for me because remember that my troops are at +7 strength against city states, which I will take advantage of against Vilnius as you'll see in a second.

Ulm (my most recent city) grows to size 2. I decide to work the iron (2f1p1science) and the truffles (2f1p3g) for a decent amount of production. Also it's running into housing issues (2/3), so it's better to finish the granary (14 turns now) than try to grow by working the cattle.

Here's my tech situation. I should be able to get all 3 boosts for Engineering, Iron Working and Construction, though Iron Working might not be feasible with a lack of near future builders.

Here's the situation in the center before I make my moves:

My most southern archer was damaged by the Aquileia firing at it last turn, and Sullla seems to have upgraded his slinger to an archer there. Vilnius has an archer nearby, too, that threatens my units. Two quick moves later:

The archer is destroyed, giving my archer 4 experience.

As for my other moves, I move the warrior next to the city center, more for harassing the builder in case Sullla decides to keep it outside the city, but also to be able to pillage his road if possible in a couple of turns. One archer pillages his horse pasture (red circle), giving me 50 gold. Another archer shoots at the city center, and the recently upgraded archer moves closer to the center of action. Now, if Sullla wants to attack my injured archer, he can move his archer out of the city center and shoot at it, but that would leave it very vulnerable to my many archers here, so I think he'll stick with attacking my other units. I might need to withdraw in a couple of turns if it looks like the combination of his archer + city center attack would be too deadly.

Finally, Frankfurt temporarily suspends its Hansa build and starts building ancient walls (4 turns) so that I can fall back to Frankfurt's vicinity if needed, and also to boost Engineering as discussed before.

Sullla has a big lead in science (23.3 vs 18.4) and culture (23.2 vs 18). Military scores are 305 (Sullla), 156 (me), 134 (Yuris), and 73 (Archduke). I also noticed Sullla has switched to Oligarchy for the extra +4 strength bonus. I might switch to that in a couple of turns, too, to even the field.

Oh, I also sent Archduke an open borders offer, not that it would be helpful right now, but it might come handy if I want to send some troops around the central mountain.

Very nice moves! Have you had a lot of experience with Civ6 warfare?

On another nite, since Vilnius is just in the vicinity here, are you planning to take that city too (if you are ale to old this front?)
