Turn 43: The Senate convenes
We unlock both Political Philosophy and Astrology, I'm pushing for Celestial Navigation so I can immediately lock in a Harbour in Terra and Fenris when they hit sizes 7 and 4, respectively. That's for now the last economic tech I'm unlocking, then it's on to the Roman virtues of Sanitation and Legions on a deep beeline
I put in the following government:
Perhaps a bit greedy as a setup, but I need two builders and those two settlers finished to satisfy my economy needs for near future, and most importantly to knock out two fish in Terra to knock out half of Celestial Navigation. Also the 20% experience and +4 combat make us no slough on the war-front either. I wonder what Firaxis was thinking making Oligarghy the better military government than Autocracy (which is more a wonderwhore/capital government) exactly, but oh well play the game as it is not as the designers intended right?
In a bit of a trollish move, I blocked Alhambrams warrior from taking the barb camp between us ![lol lol](https://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/images/smilies/lol.gif) 50 more gold for us, none for you Alhambram

Time for me to catch up here, since I've not posted for a few days.
To start with the latter: I like the settler I see produced there. As I said before, setting up three to four cities when you got the space and good tiles is key.
Does it mean you are postponing the invasion on La Venta though? Not that I mind, after all I was for settlers > invasion from the beginning, but just asking.
Lets see what this friendship with Alhambram will lead to. It is that the distance to them is so vast, but it would be best to deliver a hard blow before he reaches the medieval era. Mamluks are quite scary.
Being friends however will enable us to made a trade road to his closest capital, making a (suprise) invasion much more manageable.
Also, America leading in domination? I guess we will see the first city-state fall soon.

Also a post with a bit of 'meta'talk regarding La Venta:
me and Japper have been discussing the invasion of La Venta for quite a some time now, which explains why both of us have different views on it despite not much discussion in this chat.
Basicly, Japper wants to take it in as soon as possible to create a hard border in the south.
Although I support the hard-border idea, I think we should get a city on the spot east to the capital first, and only then invade La Venta. This for two reasons:
1: As it is, our military isn't large enough to take down La Venta in a few turns. It will take quite a while, wasting time.
2: If we get a city up first, we can start development in that city whilst building military units in the other cities to invade la venta.
If we were to first go for La Venta, we would first be producing units, which means later potential development in the new-to-found city, which would be ashame and an unnecessary waste of time.

Aha! I finally get your reasoning and why our reasonings differ! See it's good to also post in the thread once in a while ![mischief mischief](https://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/images/smilies/mischief.gif) it makes the discussion much clearer. I am NOT and was not planning on adding more units than I already have to take LV, at all. It's just something I'm planning on doing while my cities are building. I do not need more than three archers and a warrior to take an AI controlled city, heck I can take out an entire civ on Deity with just two!
I am however planning on keeping up with the field better this time in terms of military, as I have the two biggest military threats in the game as neighbours. The CS isnt even a concern on building units, it's just a way to avoid idle time on them, like a creep camp in Warcraft 3

Turn 44:
Settler is on it's way to the western spot with all the hills. I started the capital on a builder, I need one to hook up the whales and the fish for an amenity and Celestial Nav, and there is also still that juicy mutton to pasture to the south of the capital to pick up another 5 yield tile.
I hope the barbs in the area aren't going to interfere but I have some units freed up now as:
I sniped the barb camp from under Alhambrams nose!
Looks like this'll be the last report for a while as Jester has no internet until 5 december

Comcast finally gave Jester his internet connection so we can get back to pbem5
Our settler is on his way to go found the city in that nice hill region (the one from fenris will found on Crater Lake). You can see how civilian units cheat on vision, probably in an attempt to prevent the AI from losing all it's settlers... Anyway it allows me to see that no barbs have spawned, though we'll probably get scouted in just a few turns.

Builder done in Terra, started it on an encampment, no more economic stuff for a while, now it'll be Encampment, Barracks and then Legions!
Warrior has just promoted and his on is way back, if I time it well he will arrive at La Venta just in time to cap it after the archers reduce the defenses and kill the units. We'll even have an extra road for him to zoom along, as we found that nice hill city next turn.

time to get the third city up and running!
With the three-city strategy complete, you can now relay focus to taking over La Venta and perhaps trowing a forward-settle north.
And ofcourse, providing each city with a campus.

Settle my third city Macragge, home of the Blue Smurfs err... the Ultramarines.
Also visible is the archer conga-line on it's way to La Venta (it still has neither walls nor a higher strenght yet so this should be doable, gotta love Prince difficulty City States!)

Finished Drama and Poetry, now on my way to put 50% research in Recorded History (will finish it by building the campus in Fenris) for the double Campus adjacency bonus there.
Builder finishes a fishing boat on the Whales, he'll get us the Eureka for CelNav in two turns when he builds another
