Had some OOS issue just now, relogging fixed it...
Gav is whipping... chariots???
I'm just confused honestly. He has catapults running here and there but I can't grasp his plans. Also, starting this turn espionage gives us vision on White Queen which is a huge plus. Our 3 chariots are positioned near the border in case of a convenient opportunity to raze the city. Still building up more catapults and axes, albeit slowly, mostly using hammer production to recover from over-whipping.
hurry up SD and knock out chumchu please . As soon as war with gav starts sacrificing a chariot to burn the copper being supplied to chumchu is the plan.

Logged on at the same time as gavagai and sat around watching troop movements. Very methodical on his part, moving a unit here, a unit there. His main stack of 15 praetorians in the north has gone out of my line-of-sight.
Alhazard popped a great general while i was online:
And a global view of the situation:

Gav's ways are mysterious. His catapults are gone. If they're not on the highlighted tile, the only other place they could be is a tile north of White Queen, where they will give plenty warning before attack. If gav does not invade the turn that peace ends, I'm giving myself a carte blanche to launch an invasion. Perhaps, though, he is going to invade up north?

I’m on the train peering into civstats - Gavagai has whipped 40 pop in the past 10 turns, for a max of 22 praetorians/other units. Based on observations, this implies a northern army of around 3-5 chariots, 3-10 catapults, 21-28 praetorians - assuming he has committed nothing to his north. This is most likely enough to take us out. The more catapults he brings the better our chances.
I think I should not take any risk and orient myself around the worst case scenarios above. That implies moving my rapid attack squad of 4 cats and 9 axes back into the city.

Doable, but this is going to be a really RNG-based defense. Time to get the rosary beads out.
I had a gut feeling that northernmost stack in the first image was going to be there. Good thing I didn't commit forces to attack.

Don’t have time to upload screeners but goddamit... gav culture flipped the tile below the peak and the jungle below the copper. This small pop is going to change a lot. No can defend against him anymore.

Looks like I actually got some pretty great combat rolls on my axes, but I just don't have enough to take out gav's stack. It's very damaged, but 14 catapults will grind my city into the dust nonwithstanding. Overall, it might still be a neutral hammer trade for me, but I need to be winning 4-1, not 1-1.
Almost these catapults, dead. GG to gavagai, I guess. If he manages to recover his economy fast enough, he'll be in top shape. His GNP currently is still in the toilet, but unless SD attacks him soon enough, he'll have an easy path to victory. Very surprised that Donovan is still not taken out yet by Commodore and Alhazard and Regentman. My earlier predictions were very much based on Donovan collapsing more rapidly than me because of 3v1, but looks like that's just not the case.
Also, no clue why gavagai didn't take the methodical route through the jungle where I wouldn't have been able to do as much damage.

Turn timer violation? I have the second half of the turn, what reason could there be to resume play for 21 minutes on logging in? I'm not 100% familiar with the pitboss bylaws here, so could lurkers respond?

I'd presume he logged in, unpaused to see if there was any diplo and then forgot to re-pause until he logged out at which point he logged back in to pause again. No idea if that's what really happened.
Did you guys agree that you don't mind logging in out of order?

All good I guess.
Seems that gavagai pulled a weed move. Instead of sacking a few extra units to obliterate my stack with his catapults and press on, he let me promote 8 or so axes to shock and retreat out of the city safely. Whipping another bath of catapults to have 8 or so for the final showdown. Chance of success is 0% but gavagai’s gnp is currently at the level of his turn 1 GNP - pretty satisfying.
Met alhazard btw, he seems to be doing ok by city count, but he really should get working on dono
