[Mjmd #51 No Players] Mjmd Rambles - a civ story

I thought I had replied to this before smile

A couple of things to think about:

1) What to do if SD doesn't settle that copper? Assume he's settling a different one or not settling copper at all?
2) Is SD in slavery?

Bad news x2. I lost the warrior at 77%. That's two high odds battles so far I've lost. Good omens. Second is that even though in all my sims the capital switched to the mined hill automatically it evidently didn't when I finished the river mine! You can even see it working the damned forested hill in the screenshot! I didn't notice until this turn... So thats 4 turns lost extra production and commerce which among other things means settler is now turn 32 instead of 31....... @&%#&!

1) Be happy? Go back to operation spirit bomb, which I might do anyways since I lost 2nd warrior and I'm a turn behind. Just now with some axes thrown that way.
2) Vanrober is, which I knew from pts, but SD is not. Assuming Vanrober whipped his settler. Probably means SD settler is still in production as well as most people switch civics when 1st settler is in route. Will camp warrior SW of cow. Double checked capital vision and cant see. I don't know where his resources to share are and he could also settle either N or NW of copper. Grabs another flootplain but misses the cow, which he might figure he can pick up later. Plus I don't know other resources around. If he settles on the plains tile northwest of copper I will see culture  and if he doesn't have a defender will declare war and hope. I had previously written that grassland hill might be ok to camp until realizing if he is settling the plains location he would just retreat until he was covered.

Is there like a checklist of things you check every turn. Even with a plan playing 1-2 turns a day is just so disjointed. Definitely going to take some getting used to. Definitely green.

In world news El Grillo is 1st to a new city with no whipping. Edit also GKC. I would expect both Vanrober and Plemo to be next as they both whipped.

Bad luck on the warrior. Barbs on monarch are no joke.

How has SD not settled his 2nd city yet? What the hell is he doing, going stonehenge first?

I usually check the demographics page every turn and when I get demos, I check power. Nothing worse than getting attacked by a neighbor and, looking back, they have been spiking power for 10 turns and you missed it.

I try to check for barbs - the mil advisory can help with that, great people being born, units from other civs.

This stage of the game I am usually dotmapping and trying to figure out where I expect horse and iron to show up - trying to decide if I can build a wonder or not.

One thing you should also think about is barb busting - there's enough land that you will definitely have barb issues at some point.

This might be too late to the table, but another option might be to not axe rush, but to attack with chariots. That obviously takes time (I dunno if you have agri yet, plus you'd need AH, plus a 3rd settler plus roads and pasture), but it has the advantage that you can settle copper for a better long term city and probably take SD by surprise, since your build up comes later and cheaper, plus the attack itself is faster.

Might be a poor idea.

Eastern scout lived. But in the big news category we are at war. SD settled on the copper.

I settle next turn. I think the more agro plan it is! I really don't want to whip the capital to the ground, but maybe something inbetween. Will have to see. Warrior will go destroy farm next turn.

Ouch. that's basically the worst thing SD could have done from our perspective.

When do you get axes up there? I think the timeline is like 10 or 12 turns, right?

So this is where that delayed turn on settling really hurts (and I won't mention the WTF why is my city working a stupid tile and I didn't catch it mistake again). Under the old plan #2 I could get there turn 41. Now some quick tests indicate it will take him 9 turns to finish an axe if the works the forested hill; so turn 42 finishes. Obviously no point going reg axe vs aggressive axe. My instinct last night was blood blood blood and to do #2 anyways with some minor tweaks due to chop timing. However, in my baby woke me up at 4AM mental state, I realized something. There really isn't a differences in what he can have in there between 2 axes by turn 44 and 3 axes by turn 46 as long as I can prevent him from chopping which I have to imagine his worker will retreat. Now the question is if I whip the spear variant. He did get what I'm assuming is AH last turn, but he would have to have in the BFC which seems unlikely. I'm inclined not to whip as you know I'm mostly giving away the capitals best food resource. So can either attack with 3 axes turn 46 or 4 axes turn 47 depending how I'm feeling.

Edit: I also realized he can grow and whip the axe out. However there still isnt a way I'm seeing he can get 2 axes there. He can tech archery whip one from capital and get it there if he starts it now. However he might feel safe with the settled copper.

I'm certain he doesn't have horse in his fatcross, as that's pretty much a no-no for RB games, unless the players ask for completely random starts.

I'm pretty sure he'll be able to hook up his copper to his cap - send a warrior or 2 from the cap and kill yours, then road to the lake, then whip out an axe in the cap.

Whether that's enough to get an axe into Chevy Corvette in 10 turns, I don't know

Leap Frog was founded this turn providing the empire with copper. Leap frog is a brand that puts out educational material and games. I don't remember if the actual game had a name or not, but I remember there being a whole bunch of mini games I played.

In other news its time to roll the dice!

That must be his 1st warrior and it got some exp on barb animals. In any case you know that luck I was banking from those animal attacks? Time to cash that in right? It's about 20% odds of winning so smoke smoke smoke , but otherwise he can whip and chop plenty of axes and there is 0% chance to rush and knock it out. So 20% chance to knock Rome down several pegs? Yes please. Mind if I hadn't lost my 2nd warrior to those same odds this would be a lot easier! yes yes I shouldn't have done ect ect. Not only am I hoping to win, but win with enough health that his second warrior wouldn't have great odds if I retreated to the forest.

Assuming it fails I'll keep the deer with the cap and regrow to size 4, chop and  whip out a settler and do operation spirit bomb. Deer will then permanently move most likely to 2nd city. Will move the fish city down to where I originally wanted it.

btw WTF is with 2 irrigated rice visible from his settling spot. I would have settled in place too! If he literally has any 3rd food resource in the bfc he has more food in food resources than I did in my original bfc! Did I get a vet spot!
