[SPOILERS] Lewger goes for the Bigwyn

Played most of the turn. Didn't end it though. Not sure what we want to to do with the warrior. Maybe move him to the coast.

The archer in Beowulf is going to take 3 turns.

Azza whipped living End 2 pop... HA?

Okay turn rolled but I have to go to bed. Archery is in and we got a free Jew spread! Yay! Let's think about whether we want to convert or not. I'll talk to you in the morning.

good grief. last night I tried to stay up and wait on cfc jester to play the turn, but he waited too long and I was sleepy. I slept for less than 7 hours, wake up and look at civ stats, and he played and then all 11 teams played another whole turn, lol. Fastest turn ever, I slept through the whole turn.

anyway I'll log in and take some pics in a sec.

I guess you didn't notice, but we may contact with Brickabod this turn. smile. a galley appeared mysteriously near the Aeneid. He has 6 cities already, so we won't be first to that prize. Good for him. Anyway the galley has made it all the way around the eastern peninsula.

If he can send a galley around, he can load another one up with a settler. so we'll be in a settling race over there frown. It is closer to home, though, so we'll likely be able to take any cities he claims in the long run.

he doesnt have writing yet, but hopefully he'll trade maps with us once we get it - since Serdoa won't. we haven't declared war on him yet, so I would hope he is more friendly towards us than Serdoa, hehe.

this is our last turn of enforced peace frown. we have 2 spears, and an axe in beowulf, and will get an archer in there at EOT.
unit costs are 6, really killing us. we are at -1 gold at 50% research, and thats before founding silver city. Lucky we can consolidate our army in beowulf. we have vision on the lands leading from azza's territory west towards beowulf or gilgamesh, so we'll see him coming if he tries something sneaky. same thing to the east with the Aenid.

our economy should improve greatly in a few turns when we get gold and silver hooked up. not sure how much, we'll see.

ok, so turn 82 report w/ pictures. (sorry I apparently slept through all of turn 81).

I'm going to let Lewwyn play most of the turn. I have family stuff today, and anyway I messed up worker micro a bit last time I played wink.

I did however move Odysseus:
it sucks that we have to trek through all this jungle. We don't have a choice really though (we aren't getting through Azza's territory to the west) and I'm getting more confident we'll find someone down there. Candidates atm are Brickabod, Serdoa, and spacetyrantxenu.

Speaking of Brick:
this cute lil galley made its way all the way around the eastern peninsula. He can move 2 or 3 more turns before he finds himself cut off by our culture, so he'll have to turn around without scouting the western part of our empire. Open borders are unlocked with alphabet now, which I don't anticipate either of us will have any time soon.

Brick has 6 cities, and doesnt yet have writing.

the homeland:
Lewwyn: I moved Hector back onto the tile with the spear here for flexibility. Next turn we will move the worker onto the silver hill and know for sure whether or not we need him in the north. If we do, Menalaus can move out of the capital to be loaded onto the galley, and Hector can take his place. If we don't, Hector can move back to theOdyssey one turn quicker. This is relevant because the Odyssey loses whip unhappy in 2 turns and will need to grow soon. (also it got the judaism spread and we'll have 2 metal happies hooked up soon so it will need to grow fast!).

the spread in theOdyssey is nice, for the happy (once we convert) but I'm hoping we get a spread in Beowulf soon for the culture. If we can cram culture in there we will be able to take tiles from Azza at some point, since they are third ring for him and 2nd ring for us. extra tiles will mean security, and allow us to build less military.

inside theIlliad:
Lewwyn was working a spice tile here instead of the village. That must have shaved a turn off the worker, so good call. I switched it back as we are in need of commerce badly. By the time this worker completes the gold will be mined and roaded, and the silver not far behind it, so we can grow quickly. 18 turns of unhappy atm

inside Gilgamesh:
we had to switch from the furs back to the plains mine here to speed up the axe. the spear you saw last time has completed and is heading towards the battle front.
We should consider switching from the plains cottage to a grassland cottage. we are going to have a significant happy influx soon, and growth will be awkward as both Gilgamesh and the Iliad will need the grains, so any food we can pile up now will be useful. I think we'll need to start focusing on commerce/food and away from hammers as soon as this axe is complete.

inside Beowulf:

A few things here. 1, the borders expand and peace treaty expires at the end of the turn. the two workers that chopped that axe will move to the gold this turn. they will mine it first, so beowulf has something to grow on, then road it for the rest of the empire. the archer completes the same turn that it grows, but in the mean time we have an axe, two spears, and 2 chariots. the chariots have 4/5 and 5/5 experience. both are combat 1, and the latter still has a promotion he can take.
the spear from gilgamesh can reach beowulf in 3 turns after moving this turn. we have a spear building in theodyssey that will complete in 4 turns and reach 2 turns later. so neither will help if azza initiates war immediately - but I think the chances of that are pretty slim. he hasn't even completed a road connection with us and hasn't had much time to build horse archers.
we do need to protect from oppornistic strikes, however. we at least need a spear guarding the iron so he can't move in and pillage it in 1 turn. if he brings a 1 moving axe to threaten the iron (on the hill where his warrior is) we will be able tor eact before he can strike as long as he doesnt double move us. (he doesnt have a road on the hill yet).

this city will likely sit at level 2, working the iron and gold, for a bit. the gold is right on azza's border and will be dangerous to farm - so we will have to wait until we have more than ample military. the worker will have to be escorted by a spear and an axe, I think frown. so I have the walls queued up after the archer, the granary can probably wait a bit.
Anyway after both are completed it will likely build military exclusively for awhile. once we feel secure we can consider a barracks or library there.

oh, this is very interesting:

Brick has not made contact with Azza or Serdoa. The lack of contact with Serdoa especially surprises me. This means that he is likely the person we will find with Odysseus south of the jungle, while Serdoa and spacetyrantxenu are south of azza to the west. The only wrench in this theory is that I can't figure out how Serdoa managed to get his scout far enough north to make contact with us in the early game. Tenacious D clearly chokes off north from south, and would have done so even before its borders expanded 6 turns into the game. Its plausible, I guess, that Serdoa declared war on azza to pass by him, and azza was a good neighbor and didn't kill his scout, and they made peace immediately after he left. But there is no diplo hit (-3 you declared war on us) in the diplo screen - there only relationship is "+1 years of peace." So I'm at a loss to explain this atm.

more news that I almost missed. Serdoa is living up to his wonder whore reputation:
Of course when he landed the Oracle, and he's IND, it was a given he would get the Colossus eventually. Its not a wonder that would do us much good, anyway. It also means that he probably has copper.
We've jumped back to city #2 with our hammer focus. once we're able to grow to size 8 or 9 I expect us to claim the #1 spot and hold it for awhile.

turn 82 demos:

MFG is intersting - 3 civs have 28 MFG. 2 of them are azza and serdoa, I think.
our GNP has tanked. but in 3 turns we will have priesthood, and by the time we start writing it will be much better. our economy overall will be stronger, we'll have a known tech bonus from serdoa, as well as severl pre-req bonuses.

the food also will improve as our cities will be going vertical very soon.

oh a note on EP's. I think we should continue putting everything into azza for the moment. we have 5 more EPs than the minimum for research visibility. I don't think getting graphs on Brick is worth losing visibility on azza. maybe when we have 8 more we can start going 3 azza 1 brick. it only cost 30 eps atm to get graphs on brick, although of course that will go up if he starts dumping eps into us. Azza has 152 to our 192, so likely he is still putting 3 into us and 1 into someone else.

Played. Did everything as planned. Actually moved off the mine in Odyssey to the sheep. Odyssey's whip unhappy will decrease by 1 in 2T and working the sheep we grow in 2T. I also have Aenid working the cow over the corn since that's a 6 yield over a 5 yield and grows in the same time. (Also allows for a whip next turn if needed.) I retreated our chariot onto the gold and moved the half move spear in front of the gold to block any opportunistic 2-movers from running at the gold next turn. I will move the spear onto the gold next turn.

We will road the gold next turn and move the workers from the cow to the north of Beowulf, then next turn put all 4 workers on the gold and mine it in 1T... Does that sound dangerous? lol We can cover the workers with a second chariot as well when we have all the workers on there.

Religion revolt should be considered T83. If Azza does not attack maybe we convert at the end of turn.

@lurkers: What are the rules about this? Waiting to revolt at the end of turn after Azza has played? Or moving our workers onto the gold at the end of turn, mining and then at the start of next turn moving all the workers off the gold? We're not at war, but we'd sorta be playing clock games to ensure worker safety. So technically not double moving. In fact, this type of thing where Azza logs in early and plays and then we log in and play and turn rolls, but I get online before Azza effectively getting two turns in before him happened THIS turn naturally. But does the active intention to do it in the future constitute a break with our rules?

Just a thought. Any chance Azza would build a galley and move a couple HAs on it and boat HA past our vision in the west?

hmm. well I was thinking this with workers - the two workers just mine it (in 2 turns), then once it is done they road it. the mine completes the same turn, ready for beowulf to work it, it just delays the empire happy by 1 turn. which probably will only effect theodyssey, since it is missing its MP for a bit. Your plan is better micro, of course - but we'd pretty much have to cover the 4 workers with a spear, and since we only have 2 in the area atm, and we have to leave one in the city, we'd have to leave the Iron uncovered frown.

I have thoughts about your lurker question, but I'll let a lurker answer first, perhaps I'm biased. I was thinking we might want to decide if we would want to be first or last in a war, and then play that way now to force us into that position if azza did declare (i.e. if we want to be last, wait every turn until azza has played already, so if he does declare he has to take the first spot).

maybe we should do this anyway. we can leave the iron uncovered for a turn. and after that turn we will be safe.
I don't think azza will be ready to attack the first turn. Even if he does move in and pillage first turn, we will have 2 spears that can kill his horse unit(s) and up to workers nearby that can re-mine it immediately.
