[Spoilers] Ceterum Peter censet Carthaginem fore triumphatrix - Adrien + Miguelito

Turn of the whip!
3 universities, all 2pop, and as much as it hurt my soul I also whipped a pop in Peffi to get a headstart on Oxford.

I also noticed that Oxford wants stone, and somehow over the last 20 turns we lost that, so I offered Al 15gpt for his. Don't know if he takes that, he has got a castle in one of his THH border cities but not in the other 2 (and in the western one he has just 1 WC as a garrison, while maintaining a respectable stack in the east - THH doesn't see that so it's a gamble that might work). Also set the slider to 0% for a turn to enable a counter offer from him.

Speaking of THH, his power's still spiking, he has LOTS of knights and CKN's, and I don't see how this game ain't over yet. But if he declares on someone, I'll try to get a shot at recovering TOS, at least for a while. On that issue, I'm unsure whether it's smart to produce grenadiers in GD, as THH will be able to see them from Jungle. If we just keeps producing cats and galleys an whatever else to get rid of the overflow (weak point) there, we can hide our military tech advance from him, as long as he doesn't send a scout on our island. Four of our workers are scanning his lands now, and no boats of him anywhere, that's good. Also he still has an unchopped forest in his second city's first ring yikes. Well, looks like he can afford that.

Al took the stone trade, so Oxford in 6 turns (counting the one I played recently), maybe 5 after Pfeffi's growth this turn. MS needs one more turn of research, I'm still debating whether I should pause research afterwards till Oxford finishes, probably yes. We don't need the whales happy super urgently, and THH has no boats visible, so no need for fast Optics. We will eventually want to get whales and wines just to be able to cancel OB with THH (the other two don't give him TR, and we have no love for him either. Also, should Jungle flip back to us with borders closed we could build up a possible invasion force unseen).

Is anybody still reading and interested in my splendid kingdom of irrelevancy?

Hm, Al has been so nice with us, giving us gold for fish, and being the only force that could somehow stand more than a turn to a THH attack... that we still might do that, if THH doesn't leave us an opening within the next 20 turns, because it would be so much fun devil (and maybe bring this game to its well-deserved end)

With some tile changes and an engineer I managed to get 2 turns off the Oxford ETA nod

MS is in and I learned the hard way that Muskets don't queue-upgrade to grenadiers. Ah well, one senseless turn of wealthbuilding at Peas (currently at size 3 anyways).
Steel would be 5 turns of 100% research (pre-Oxford). Pity we don't have iron, really shakehead

As a sloppy player, I hadn't looked up the event log. AlHazard Taj'd, already two turns ago. Probably the best thing that could happen on that front. THH is teching Education now, no idea if aiming for Oxford or maybe he wants the Economics merchant? It occured to me that that guy could be a good alternative to Astronomy after Optics. He's some techs away, but we would research all of those anyways soon enough. Well, depends on what THH does.

Yeah the general rule for queue-upgrading units is that all units it upgrades into must be available. Else you can still build the base unit so it doesn't upgrade.

Economy merchant needs us to go all the way to banking, which I don't think we should do.

well after Astro Banking would be the next stop anyways (with a PP sidekick maybe if we get the GSs), because we need it for RP.

Maybe yeah. Life would be so much easier if we had iron...

Finished Oxford, screenshot next turn when I set the slider on 100%, also Monarchy, so we're getting +2 happy resources over the next couple turns. I think I'll use that to cancel deals with THH. He seems to be going for the Economy merchant btw, did Edu already and is researching Banking now.
The brave people of Jungle revolted for the second time eot, is there a rule that the third revolt causes the flip?

it's worse, muskets simplessly don't upgrade to grens. That sucks because we can only upgrade a couple of pikes now (but what for?), so we'll have to build all the grens ourselves. At least Pfeffi is now finally finished on infra and can start helping the military buildup.

As it looks like, THH is in no hurry of finishing the game. For us that's bad, because we would need a window of opportunity, i.e. a war THH vs someone, to make an attack on the mainland. Right now there's like 25 knights plus many CKN's in range of TOS. Even if we could match those numbers eventually the attack has to be naval, so we either need to be able to eat the collateral and a knight charge, or attack amphibiously... no way we can do this against his full defenses. And while we have some tech advantage at the moment, it's gonna melt away very fast...
