I did certainly play a fair bit of CtP1. What was your name back then?

So our general etiquette thread is here. https://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/show...p?tid=7311

The rule in general is don't be a jerk.

Your vote would only have mattered on the pick method to make it a tie. Block basically would be like if you click on the spoiler tab in your quote where you get randomly assigned a block of leaders and civs and choose between them. How we will be picking is basically thus: everyone will be assigned a random number in the snake by some kind lurker. Then we will go through in that order and that person can pick either civ or leader and then it reverse comes back. IE 1 to 10 and then 10 back to 1.

City trading I think is fairly self explanatory, but just again don't be a jerk. We have only recently started allowing this at all again because its been abused in the past.

Settler races it looks like we will be using the rules currently in the etiquette thread. IE turn order is from moment a settler race is realized. It doesn't happen that often, but it comes up.

Teleport tricks. Basically don't cancel open borders to try to move your army into weird spots. If you see someone moving a stack toward you don't put a unit under it so their stack gets moved when they declare war. Doesn't come up often.

Edit: make sure to create a thread.

Snake vs. Random Block: In a snake pick, we'll have a random order of players (#1-#10). #1 picks either a civ or a leader. Then #2 picks either a civ or a leader, and so on until #10. No duplicates allowed. Once #10 picks, the order reverses, so #10 picks a civ or leader (whichever he didn't pick first) then #9, and so on. In a random block, all civs and leaders are divided up and then each player gets a random assortment to choose from. (Mjmd's pic from earlier.)

City trading: In the past we've restricted city trading because sometimes people have been sore losers and have given their empires away to prevent someone from winning. (If player A is winning, I just give my empire to player B to screw player A (because I'm a dick).) We've loosened this rule. This option allows some # of cities to be traded. (Important thing that no one's said yet(?): the only diplo allowed is deals the AI could make (like gold for corn, or whatever))

Map trading: Are you allowed to trade maps when the appropriate tech is unlocked?

Settler races: Ok, this one is complicated and difficult for any explanation not to become skewed. When in war, we observe a turn split, so if I attack you after you play your turn on turn 10, I can't play before you on t11, otherwise I've essentially gotten two moves for your one. This is referred to as a double-move. Now imagine it's peace time and we're trying to settle the same spot. Let's say you and I both have a settler two tiles from the spot we both want. If you move first, you get it. But you moved after me last turn, so if you were to move first now, it's like your settler had 4 moves. A vote for "current when realized" means that once you realize that you are in a turn split, the turn order is locked in. So if you move second and see my settler moving to the same spot as yours, you are locked in as second to avoid unfair double moves. A vote for "coin flip" means that if you go second and notice my settler, now we get a lurker to flip a coin. If you win the flip, you get to move first and can legally double move me. I don't want to invite a debate about this, so I've got to be careful about offering pros and cons, and I suggest you think through the scenarios yourself. One pro of "current when realized" is that it avoids a double move to found a city. One pro of "coin flip" is there's less impact of double moves that occurred in turns prior to the immediate discovery.

Teleport Tricks: This is a new category, although it looks like your vote won't change the outcome. The category of "tricks" is also so broad and ill-defined that any definition I give will invite debate. Some things that have been done in past games: closing borders with another player, so all of your units in that player's territory are instantly beamed home to defend yourself from an invasion; putting a unit under an opponent's army in neutral territory so that they if they declare war they're bounced a tile backward before they're allowed to attack; closing borders with various players in sequence, each time teleporting your own army further and further away so it feels like they show up to attack by magic. There is no consensus on which of these are illegitimate tricks and which are legitimate tactics. Again, your vote won't change the outcome, and these kinds of things are very rare. Don't worry too much about this category.

Let me know if I can clarify anything else. Please don't start your Civ4 pitboss journey worrying about rules lawyering! When in doubt, ask a lurker in your spoiler thread. They're good people. (Spoiler thread=your thread in this subforum.)

Pseudo-edit: Man, I spend so long writing, only to get ninja'd. Anyway, go dawgs.
There is no way to peace. Peace is the way.

You probably started writing right when I posted. Been there.

Ya map trading is whenever either party has tech.

Copy these files into the installation directory of Civ4:BTS.
If you're using the Steam version, and the multiplayer sections does not show the 'Direct IP' bullet point, start the game with the binary below.
It is (almost) the old binary without Steam dependencies.

If this does not work, switch the game version in the Steam library settings of the game.

1. The new binary.

Only with this binary can more than one player join a PB server. Otherwise, other players will be blocked.

Download: Civ4BeyondSword2015.exe

2. The 'wrapper' binary

This tool is needed to speed up the login. Internally it will load Civ4BeyondSword2015.exe (or Civ4BeyondSword.exe) Because of this we included above exe to be sure that both is installed.

Download: BTS_Wrapper

Lastly, take a look at the settings Mjmd posted in the first post of this thread. Do all those make sense? One that he left out because it’s the default: we use a multiplayer balance mod called Close to Home 5.0 (found here). Edit: After downloading, extract it to your Beyond the Sword\Mods folder.

I did all of that and ended up in this server:

Is that correct?

Assuming you are trying to setup the mod. No. See instructions from last greens game (new player game). I have a post and prior post also has a link. You can use PB74 mod as a test for launching.
