[PB75 Mjmd] Call to Power

PB59 history

Wellerman - PB59 very good capital. Edit: tried to find in thread, but pretty sure was 1/5 of my research capability plus great for expansion.

Here is the official history. Note Charriu was playing in this one so there isn't a cheat cheat I could expand on. IE if I wanted to go deeper I would have to do the work for each continent and I'm not doing that!

Quote:5 continents with 5 players - Amicalola and Miguelito where able to united their continents. Piccadlly got a research lead and a good lead in the space race. This promted Amicalola and Miguelito to invade Mali. Amicalola took an early peace to get a massive tribut from Piccadilly and to prepare the following war against Miguelito. Because Piccadilly was a bit unlucky, Miguelito was able to raze Piccadillys HS in the last turn before it reached AC. The following war between Amicalola and Miguelito, both with over 100 cities, was too great for both and the agreed to a draw.

But lets do a quick Mjmd history. You will note I'm not featured in the overall history. My main significance was to give Mig something easy to conquer, but lets explore how that came to be.

With a predefined area very much played an excellent farmers gambit. In general this game was when I started loving Zara. I then made a decision.

So I had unloaded settler, but Ramk had settled before seeing me there. If I had played first that turn would he still have settled there? Who knows. Should I have done this? With only two neighbors and this being an awkward situation it seems likely something would have happened eventually (it did on other identical continents). Unlike the current game I didn't have to change THAT much to do the attack. With me looking ahead would he have decided to attack me down the line anyways but with 1 more developed city IE better. I was Zara of Portugal though. Of people who didn't need to expand on continent immediately I'm high on that list. Now could Ramk just have imp settled back into the game and ignored. Yes. Did he? OH NO.

So first he whip chopped an army off of 4 cities and slow marched a stack THE ENTIRE WAY THROUGH MY TERRITORY from north to south. Basically I kept having enough in cities he couldn't take them immediately, but due to terrain I could never pin his stack or wipe it out. He ended up razing 2 cities and taking 1 in that war. I went back to war retaking the 1 he took. And just to make this short this kind of thing continued...... FOR MOST OF THE GAME. It was alluded to in the tech thread, but Ramk gave a masterclass on teleport magic. It was a great map for it plus charismatic great general experience 4-5 move ships. I made tons of defensive mistakes this game. However, while he kept hurting me, since he started behind and was putting so much into it, and I'm very good at rebuilding, I kept slowly making ground. When GKC was blunted vs Lazteuq this made Ramk an enticing target for his keshiks. Ramk beat back. War with me continues. GKC comes in again poorly timed, but beaten back. I'm still making ground. GKC comes in AGAIN and I can finally start finishing him off. I am finishing him off AND Mig attacks me  rolleye . I didn't need that much more time to be stable, but alas. Charriu joined him in taking my main area and I evacuated hoping to get them to fight. I temporarily held Ramk area where my actual army was. I tried to get Charriu to join me in an attack vs Mig, but he wasn't interested. Eventually Mig came for Ramk area and I evacuated to the middle island. I wanted to fight Mig, but only if I could get Charriu involved. I did get to astro island via Carrack but eventually Amica took that, so I was left with 1 city when game ended. Closest I've come to dying. If game had continued I probably would have eventually.

Anyways, talk about building a think skin to lots of war, making stupid mistakes, and lots of loss in civ.

For you sickos that like micro. I have decisions to make next turn. I kind of want to do barracks as I'm already paying unit maintenance. Plus capital can switch to ToA immediately and not care about decay.

T53 grow CTP on spear or barracks????, PB70 switch to spear or barracks????
T54 PB70 back to scout
T55 make sure PB70 working spice
T56 CTP whip settler
T57 CTP overflow into settler, work settler in PB70 for 40/100
T58 whip settler PB70, grow CTP

And did worker movement in game so enjoy the mess. I've never named more than 3 workers, but this game 5. Theres a gap in SW where I didn't write in improving wheat, but listen.

Appreciate the detail! Which direction do you want to expand into next after those two cities establish your border with Gav?

So ya establish border with Gav T59 & T64. Establish Colossus city T61. Those are the ones I have micro for. Now if worker Bulk Bins doesn't go chop at capital he could go road to the crab city I want for Moai and settle T70. The danger is that imp/cre Greenline might plant a city for it or at least a city that wants water tiles which culture from Moai would steal. If he does I might switch Moai back to SW coast, but either way I want to claim that eastern crab as its the only real even possible point of contention Greenline and I could have.

After that its probably the silver city because I won't go broke by settling it and its in contested range. Obviously the southern sheep and crab cities are tempting because they contain the rarest of resources - cottagable land. The crab city with grasslands / horse / colossus coast is pretty good despite only having a crab. That would bring me to 10 cities which is about the most I'll do before currency. I may even wait on the sheep city. The stone wheat city can grow a couple river cottages for it.

Didn't report last turn to not clue people in that I missed Poly cry . That is the risk of going for Poly. Going to finish to get hammers into ToA even though I did discover a marble........

Which mainly makes me want to still finish the barracks. Anyways only food on Gav side is an Oasis my screenshot kind of hides NW of scout so as long as I don't take the copper (that is his 2nd copper and both are kind of crap, but go go being Egypt / me being Neb / he could have a 3rd copper). Its awkward which city I want to settle first. On one hand getting silver and marble online sooner is good. On other its WAY out there. Will have excellent vision eventually, but still might need its own spear which I have pegged for down south. We shall see. I have no timeline for those cities yet, but I do want that marble so might do the inefficient risky play eventually.

PB59 song. I was originally looking for a different song, but went with Worse Old Ship. A less important city mainly used to whip military units, you know because it was PB59 and most cities either whipped military units or got razed .

Waiting for the day to get our pay.

I know its been a while, but a combination of quick change of plans and my looking at Dreylins lands combined for few posts.

So my land is what we call "commerce poor". I'm not just talking about the brownness (although my two grassland river tiles are glaring over at Dreylin). But very few of my resources are on rivers. There is no close luxury metal. I started a horrible distance from seafood and the commerce on it. I'm also playing a combo that very specifically WANTS WANTS WANTS both a religion and all the wonders. IE with 10 players it made sense to skip pottery (have I mentioned that 10 players was not a good number to play this combo on?).

We last left off with my plans for a whole bunch of units to be outside my territories. Realizing this I started moving a scout back into my borders and then went "WAIT". I'm probably not going to move it out for 10 turns at least. Do I really want to pay that cost? I definitely didn't want to pay double for it being outside my borders while all my workers were. So I deleted that scout AND my other recently created one. Point being I saw the cash crunch coming (btw 1st great prophet was always pegged for settling to give an early gold infusion regardless of if I got religion or not). I really wanted to do fishing first to start finally getting  that sweet sea tile commerce before I went to priesthood. However, to hedge I put about 1/3 into Priesthood and left myself so fishing would finish the exact turn workboat came out.

And then the turn after I turned on fishing tech someone else got priesthood. So you are Neb (Ind/Phil). You are VERY BROKE. You just settled a city that needs fishing that's only a drag atm. What do you do? Obviously panic switch to priesthood. Scerw micro for improving cow and settling SW city on time and send those two workers back. Luckily you had already figured out a way to get a 3 turn worker out of PB70 with a chop of worker heading back. Giving you 4 workers and a two turn Oracle build with 4 chopped forests.

And my screenshot for some reason I forgot to check that it actually showed Oracle completing. SIGH. Listen it did.

There was some recent Gav deforestation including a 3rd ring forest. I wonder who I beat to Oracle. HMMM. Its for the best Gav. My alternative plan if I didn't get Oracle was to use all my chops and destroy both our games (because mine would have already been done). So you aren't going to attack me in retribution RIGHT. I really don't want to attack him. His land sucks as much as mine and I want him to deal with SD. I just want to sit over here and do stupid things.

But yes since last report settled PB54 of medium ness but lots of forests, PB63 stabbed by mountains (hm wonder why the city stabbed multiple times got named PB63; still hope to eventually build colossus there; did get to save a forest with delayed fishing although I could have had  boat 1 turn faster if I had payed more attention), and an eventual powerhouse and most likely Heroic Epic city of PB66.

I see why your civilization is having an accounting crisis.

The current accounting crisis is due to lack of natural commerce plus playing Neb and wanting all the wonder things. There is a reason normal Mjmd picks creative and avoids this part of the tech tree for a while.

The lack of grassland river tiles will be part of the future accounting crisis. I'm farming one of them and the other is part of an extreme filler city so also probably farmed. That means outside my capital my cottages will either be plains river or non river grassland (and there aren't even a ton of those).

Forgive me, but does your post actually state which tech you took with Oracle, between all the reasons why it's a bad idea?

Just keep going with that logic.

Your land sucks (at least compared to Dreylin; although GT has floodplains). You are broke and its not likely to get much better. You had to race Oracle before you could get pottery and therefore Metal Casting isn't an option. You are Neb of India. What do you pick?
