[SPOILERS] Emissaries from the blighted lands; Mardoc and Jkaen take on the world!

Jkaen Wrote:Just one thing I thought of that may be worth a worldbuild, all these shallows we have lying around, how do they interact with the likes of tsunami?
They don't. Shallows and swamp don't count as a water tile.

Ahh ok, thanks. Thats what I guessed, but it could have been a nasty surprise if I was wrong!

Well, we were warned, but this game is even slower than I thought it was going to be, I think a blitz session would be a very good idea, and luckily we only need one of us to be present

The only real concern I have is if we get into contact with the Clan Hordelings, that we might need time to plan our moves in their presence. Otherwise, I'm all for a blitz.

I will try for a more detailed update tonight, but I would like to continue thinking about what makes sense techwise. Especially if we're going to be blitzing, and double especially if we're lucky with the next hut pop wink.

Personally, I think it probably makes sense to continue at least Crafting -> Mining. After that, we're likely to have Hawks and Hunters in play, and we can judge just how vulnerable we are. That also lets us make sure to settle copper and get it mined. I'd like to delay Bronze Working until either we want to expand to jungle, or see signs of incoming forces. The only significant worry I have is that the Hippus might be able to hit us between us spotting them and us researching BW, but maybe they're in the far corner.

What do we do while we delay? Econ! Economy rules these games, and that'll be doubly true on a Huge map like this one. What do we need?

I think this is how I would rank these, in priority order. Feel free to argue with me about it, though!
  1. Education -> Code of Laws; these let us have cottages, Aristrograrian farms, and of particular interest to me - Governor's Manors. These are going to be useful no matter which direction we expand, no matter what else we want to do. The only hesitancy at all in my mind is that they're relatively expensive.

  2. Calendar -> Festivals -> Drama?: Agrarianism is great, we have at least one Calendar resource and see several more. Financial Markets are lots of fun, and Carnivals would let us start using animal happiness immediately. Drama gets us a free GA, lets me build non-monument culture, but it's also expensive and maybe should wait.

  3. Mysticism -> Kilmorph: This would benefit the Malakim more, obviously, but would let us start getting Kilmorphian gold, Religious happiness, shrine income, mana; it's also a tech we're in a partial race for since lots of people will want it. Of course it would also get us God King hammers and Malakim Elder Councils (which enable Academies).

  4. Fishing -> OO - well, with the water on the map, we'll want it eventually. Being able to hook up your capital Crabs would be lovely, too. It'd be a nice source of early culture for me, an early healer, water mana. Asylums might go well with Governor's Manors, for that matter. Since Lanun are in the game, I wouldn't be surprised if they beat us here, though.

  5. Way of the Forest - more options are better. There'll be no particular race for this one, though, and there's nothing we've seen so far that screams Leaves.

  6. Cartography: needs a test, but I don't think we can trade with each other without it, and we already have Exploration, partially bored workers, and two cities. If we don't need it as teammates, though, then we can skip this forever.

At least the fact that the game is going slower is partially off set by the much faster teching wink

I would say 1,3,4,2,5 as a priority order myself

I can see the case for religion before zoos smile. Maybe the huts will make that choice easier by giving us Mysticism wink.

First can give us education, and the second code of laws (probably skipped about 1/2 a dozen pre-reqs but oh well!)
