Are you, in fact, a pregnant lady who lives in the apartment next door to Superdeath's parents? - Commodore

[SPOILER] And now for something completely different: DaveV is Hannah

Another turn, another city:

This probably sets a new record for truncation to 15 characters:

The highlighted galley is headed for the pearls island. I thought it was too big a reach to move there directly, and founded Johann of Ulm as a waypoint city. The galley had to end its move early to stay out of range of the griffon, which means founding the island city one turn later. Two tiles west of the boat, you can see where my border city with superjm will plant next turn.

As planned:

No one has scored the drama bard yet, so this is their last chance to steal it from me. Mr. Cairo must have just finished research on Sailing, since he's now gaining more from the trade routes than I am. It also looks like there'll be a culture war for Ken Shabby. It will be ironic if Ken Shabby becomes my most cultured city.

Video for the new city:

I didn't get a screenshot last turn, but superjm showed up in the log as switching to City States.

He switched back to Tribalism to lose the -10% production penalty, but that also loses the +2 XP from Apprenticeship. There's a reason why the standard set of civics is the standard.

I was checking my unit production, and thought it was amusing enough to post:

Yes, I've already built 21 workboats. That's enough production to build most of the wonders. My number of workers is a little low, but I'm working a lot of water which doesn't need much worker input.

And I haven't lost a single unit yet. There's a real snowball effect to the first two or three combats against the barbs: if you win, you can double promote and are very likely to win the next combat; if you lose, you have to administer the coup de grace and will probably only gain 1 or 2 XP. Early bronze working has been helpful, too, of course.

It is nice to see all those zeroes in the Lost column. nod And that is a lot of work boats! eek Makes sense as they are taking the place of workers for a land-bound empire.

Thanks for the Python videos! I continue to enjoy the theme. smile

The event a couple turns back was a nice one. Not a big gain, a bit of food or commerce per turn, but it is nice to have a choice of good outcomes sometimes and not just trying to avoid negatives.

Nice to grab the great bard. nod

I used the great bard for a golden age, along with the great sage I had on ice.

It's looking a little crowded in the west:

And there are "my" pearls, maybe? Too late, because I already grabbed the other ones:

Kind of crowded here, too. I want to settle a city where the elephant is standing, and have two warriors and a settler in the galley to dump there if the animals leave it clear.

Speaking of animal crowds:

My warrior should have no problem beating two wolves, but there are also barb city borders just visible there.

One of the most recent EitB updates allows two civic swaps if you swap on the very first and last turns of a golden age. So:

As I said earlier, slavery is not the magic bullet in this game, but it should let me whip some infrastructure into new cities, or emergency defenders if things go horribly wrong. And the barbs could always provide me with a slow-working slave or two. Nationhood only makes sense when paired with Apprenticeship, so Religion is pretty much the default choice there.

Here's my city list, very happy with the pearls.

Edit: I forgot the city videos! Sorry about the quality on this first one:

That's why it's always good to pick a nearly inexhaustible source of city names.

Ouch:

My fault, really. I should have picked up a second warrior instead of throwing a settler into the fog with a single escort.

Not making the same mistake in the north:

Step away from the city site, animals!
