By this logic then Gavagai should have microed for...let's see here... 520 pop growth at EoT. DAMMIT GAVAGAI! You had one job! Now Fake News won't win. Except for best naming theme, because come on. I won that one in a landslide, even if mackoti got 3 million more votes points.

STZ
DZ never actually attacked me. Our boats just stared at one another for the last several turns.

GG everyone, and well done Naufragar. Yes, the problem was lack of ships, but the reason for that is that after Naufragar took that island there were only 2 not-so-productive coastal cities in the whole empire (due to an early city going 1 tile off the coast, a very good plant that ended up hurting us in the long term).
Xenu FYI we spent half the game planning to attack you, but no good window ever came up and I made a choice not to commit everything to an attack that had an important chance to fail. Seriously that Bob plant killed our game, it was only a couple tiles closer to your cap than to ours, and with its culture it killed our possible plants in the area.
Edit : oh yeah and my luck was really bad this game. Seriously, two galleys losing to one, and the second one with units in it to reinforce the units on the island.

Well I'm glad that plan never came off. I was off buildering for a while in the early game, starting the wonder whoring with Great Wall and Pyramids. Early on phalanxes probably kept you from using chariots to remove Bob, but after that I saw your power begin to rise and so I followed suit because I was concerned about an attack at Bob. I wasn't pleased to see that HA stack you were building so I built one of my own to counter it (SPI+'mids is awesome for police state emergencies). I don't remember how many turns it went though with me waiting/hoping you'd go on and attack 2MN, so I was happy when I finally did it and you piled on to him instead of piling on to me. Though after now knowing you were looking to attack me, apparently I read more into our trades equaling goodwill than you did.

It's crazy, as big as this map was that city wasn't even a reach. It just happened that my second city didn't overlap my capital, but it wasn't an in your face land grab. My first two cities had connected BFCs. I was after the stone on the border and assumed that if I could get it into my second city's BFC I would be able to hold it, as CRE. That turned out to be true. I was lucky when Bob turned out to be the holy city, though. That locked down the border. In retrospect I guess it is surprising you guys didn't take a shot at it, but yeah, I'd be hesitant to massively roll the dice on it too. If you attacked and had bad luck things could have got worse.

Well that certainly explains it. It probably didn't help that I grabbed the island between us, but since you didn't have a port nearby I didn't see how you'd contest it anyway.

You could have attacked through my north, but I guess you'd have had to stop settling the astronomy islands to invade by sea. I'd say Adrien's job was more to keep my military build up, because every time he started building a lot of units I had to respond. I was definitely on the builder track this game chasing culture, but I was watching demos (until you started dumping tons of EPs on me).

Not really. I just didn't realize that you might want to cross my land for that reason. I think you asked for OB once ? I wasn't sure about your motivation for that, so I declined. After that I never gave it a second thought.
If you did ask more than once (I don't remember precisely) I'll blame my refusal on my constant state of exhaustion these past few weeks, and on my loss of interest in the game. My last turns were basically building muskets everywhere, teching to grens, and building boats in the two coastal cities.
Edit : Xenu that HA stack was destined for you originally but you built spears and other units, so I decided not to go for an unwinnable war at this point. If you hadn't followed the power graph as closely and reacted accordingly I'd have attacked.
