Got it. We had enough gold to research paper, but Paper on it's own doesn't do much for us (more of a lead-in tech to Education and Printing Press) so I left research at 0%. Printing Press is a really expensive tech with small payback at present. Paper > Education for Universities > Oxford, or the Guilds > Banking line look best to me ... not sure which would be better.

Managed to get temporarily get internet by borrowing a 3G card. Paper->Education, probably. Then again Mercantilism is pretty good on a Pangaea...

Played this turn too since I was on. We can swap back to slavery now if we want to throw down a round of whips.
TEAM is research Guilds now. I continued to save gold (up to nearly 700 @ +198gpt). One more turn of saving should be enough to buy us Paper + Education. If we do a round of whipping courthouses/forges next turn our whip anger will wear off by the time Education comes in and then we'll be able to whip in Universities and build Oxford in the capital.
We should probably mine all the hills within range of Barbados in preparation for hammering out Oxford (I think we have 1-2 left un-mined).

Definitely whip Forges/Courts everywhere. Paranoia: TEAM breaks the NAP and attacks us with Knights. Doubt it'll happen, but mayybe Engineering is in order?

We can't afford to divert from our full-bore economy gambit to pull out of last place. If TEAM comes attacking with knights it'd hurt bad and knock us out completely, but I think we have to risk it.

Next item on the agenda: Monk economy? We could bang out Sankore from San Juan pretty easily with Stone. The main problem would be payback time - do we expect the game to last long enough for it to matter? Probably not...

Slavery came in, and I cracked the whip in every single city save New York. I think we'll be fine stacking whip anger, since our happy cap is absurdly high.
I think we should push out a 3-turn settler from San Juan using whip overflow, coupled with a 1-turn Missionary from Barbados, and settled another city.
