As I was staring at the main page of the RB forums, I noticed KingOfPain was logged in, and this for some reason triggered a certain memory.
I recall one moment, which was probably around a half dozen years ago, where I joined a variant game with a couple of varianters playing, one being KingOfPain. I believe he was playing his rage-variant character. I just remember hovering my cursor over some impressive items on the ground as I made my way about town.
If any of you would humor me (and the others that may read this thread), please post some of your Diablo memories that come to mind. Any Diablo memories, short or long, joyful or not. As long as they are Diablo-related, I would be glad to read them.
Cheers.

Hmm, without checking the old forums, just something that popped up atm.
When I first came to the Asylum....
There weren't many people on around the time I usually played but I often see Charis name in channel or game. He would never answer my greeting. I thought to myself "What a stuck up!" Little did I know he was getting keyboard face 99.9% of the time.
So, I ended up playing with Cyrene aka Strayed Arrows occasionally. Now he's a different story...
After a week or 2, I made a short post, as Griselda puts it in the classic KoP style, simply, "would anyone come and play with me?" The rest is history. That was all it took, someone to ask, for the graveyard shift to start. Sleep is for the weak!
Back to Strayed Arrows, that name was well deserved as I found out painfully from the beginning. I was developing/fine tuning TeleKill with my NAV variant GlassTiger. (I didn't know a similar technique exsisted since I wasn't well read. But just as well, or else I might not have made improvement on that basic technique.) Apparently, Cy didn't appreciate jump frog warriors and took no measure to avoid friendly fire. (Me think he even sprayed me on purpose many times. What an arse.) But he was blunt while civil, and I was tolerant (LoL, nudge Cy) and things worked out.
Moral of the story - Stuck-up and Arse turned out to be very decent human beings
And then there's Nystul who outfitted PoO, aka SoulFlayer, a whole set of Brilliance gear for his first BNM. PoO was only 13 and didn't know better, poor guy. Pure evil, that Nystul.
I can go on forever with fond memories and stories including most every old time RBDers but that would take forever ;p
Thanks for memories

I remember an incident with Gavilan, who did love to play Sorcerers. I was playing one of my many Rogues, and let fly a volley of arrows 'near' him. As he angrily pulled arrows out of his Breast Plate, a chastened Shadow listened to a lecture on the subject of de-sync.
I remember reading a treatise on the subject of stacking Harmony/Stability/Balance items written by Charis, with several layouts of possible equipment to make it work. I wrote a note to Charis, expressing confusion over one of the layouts recommended and got a very polite note back expressing thanks for catching a mistake in the writing. I remember testing that set-up with Cullyn and having loads of fun as we ventured along.
I remember my first private game with FlashNPan and watching in bewilderment as he actually laid out the contents of his inventory on the ground in preparation for the trip to the dungeons. It was a marvel to learn that there was another world beyond public games.
I remember the amazement I felt when I learned about the effect of items of the Dark, and how a mere two rings, a scroll of infravision and judicious use of Telekinesis would allow me to retrieve my scattered gear when a monster slaying expedition went awry. I remember the temerity with which I tested that.

My best Diablo memories are mostly of tourneys we held at Honor-Might. Escape From the Pit was a favourite of mine but so too were the Ironman runs. I wasn't as much into variant characters back then, but some good times and good challenged were to be had nevertheless.

Good stuff, folks.
I am not certain if I ever partook in Escape from the Pit, but I do somewhat recall it. Someone would open a portal from one of the lower levels in the dungeon, perhaps level five or so (although level four is stuck in my mind), and the newly created character(s) would try to make a way back to town by escaping through the church.

Yeah, the creator of the game would go down the cats stairs to 5 and find the stairs up to 4, then launch a portal. Each of the 4 new characters would be given 1K to outfit themselves with, and would then have to make their way back up to escape out the church. A fair amount of luck was very helpful -- a good/bad draw for stairwells and Leoric could make or break the trip -- but it was possible to get out with a merely average draw. Fun stuff; at least, I thought so. The good thing about failed trips was that they were usually over quickly, so you could try again.

The thing that freaked me out a bit about this post is that my friends and I used to always use "nav" as our designated game name on battle.net. It was picked on a whim because someone was thinking "Norton Anti-Virus" at the time. However, during the days of D2, I found that when I tried to create "nav" the name would occassionally be taken. If you guys were the ones using it, now that would be pretty... weird.

AFAIK, no one here used this name. As a matter of fact, the NAV variant is not well known and not documented (directly) anywhere.
NAV = Not A Variant. Hehe
GlassTiger was just a CD warrior I liked to play and people are kind enough to let him into variant games. GT in turn carried all sorts of equipment so he can transform into any (well, a lot of) variant on demand, to fit the power lvl of the group.

Diablo...
a fond memory of Diablo (and sorry this has no relevance to anyone from RBD but...) was getting a college buddy of mine to finally play the game with me (his name was earnest). After a while he got fairly good at playing the game.
One day he accidentally PK'd me. I was in the habit of playing sorcerors then with Fireball and Firewall being two of my favorite spells. So after I recovered my gear I ventured down past him a level in the game that we wear playing and said to him, "I need some help on level 12! Mob rush!" (he was on level 11). Laid firewalls 2 & 3 layers deep around the stairs themselves, but not on the stair itself. He popped in at which point I dropped a firewall right on top of him.... he couldnt get back up the stairs hence he died... wasnt exactly an accident on my part but revenge was sweet.
After that incident we never PK'd each other again whether by accident or on purpose.
