We have 4 right now, and we're planning to start in 10-20ish minutes. If you want in, pop into the chat, and maybe we can expand it to 3v3. Chatroom here:

In the grand tradition of bragging, I won the 5 player FFA :P Score victory, although I could have eliminated TT for conquest with about a turn to spare.
Good game everyone, etc!
It was a really fun game!
Despite being landed in a tight coastal corner of a pangaea with Charlemagne (Imp/Pro) of Persia with no horses for Immortals, I managed to survive and kill spacemanmf for second place though it exhausted me for bob to clean up - which he generously chose to do. Also, in a homage to Whosit I managed an almost complete Trireme world tour circling the outside of the map trying to find seafood to pillage! Great game and great fun had by all! We must do this again soon!

Yeah, great game everyone. Despite my rough start, I had my fun and I agree with TT, we should do this more often.
Yeah good game everyone. That was a little bit late for me (played until 2.30am after a night on the beers!) but fun nevertheless.
I took a screen shot about 60 turns in. Those horses were my saviour and also enabled me (with three chariots) to raze a city of StM (see the ruins at the very top of the picture). But no metals anywhere to be seen. Eventually I settled on the hill south of the ruins (which are on copper) but it was a bit late by then. Pretty barren land too which meant that my tech rate ground to a halt towards the end. Had a great battle with TT. Bloody annoying for you to get triremes so early, though. You ruled the seas from that point onwards. And spears are very annoying when all you have are chariots and archers. You built a lot of them. I carelessly allowed my southern most city to be razed, and then you took the one I settled on "City?" with brute force. Towards the end I also settled the square between City? and the copper city, plus also on the tiles 3 south of my two NW cities. This was purely to try to secure second in the points race. No wonder my economy crashed, though!
Very fun game last night - thanks to all who played! Brief history from my perspective:
I started what I believe was the middle of the Pangaea. Bob was to my east (had some space in between), and ShootTheMoon was to my west (quite close). Shoot's capital was fairly mediocre, so I think from the start he was playing a game that was based around the premise of "just make a big impact on the game" which he was definitely able to do. My capital on the other hand... Well I'll let Bob describe it: (paraphrasing from memory) Bobchillingworth Wrote:Holy $&#% scooter, how many blood sacrifices did you have to make to get your capital? ![]() It wasn't the best I'd ever had by any means, but was pretty solid stuff - river, corn, gold, two floodplains. I was also Financial (though Protective was my other trait). The two closest players had scout start and I had warrior start, so I went worker-worker (chopping for the second worker) and that paid off quite nicely. I sent my starting warrior towards Shoot's land, and as I got close he had a warrior come out of his city. We were next to each other on flat ground, and Shoot took the 50/50 attack and lost. My only guess as to why is because he figured he might as well play aggressive with a weak capital, but I promoted to Woodsman and promptly went and parked on a forest right outside his capital. Given the geography of the map, this cut him off from sending stuff directly at me (he was sort of on a peninsula) for quite awhile. He accidentally left a worker open at one point, which I stole. I thought long and hard about deleting him, but I decided to try to make a break for it because I thought I could get back. Finally at one point his archer was able to get next to my worker, and his mouse was quicker on the next turn so he got his worker back. ![]() Anyways, I leveraged my start out to a pretty healthy lead. I was pulling away in all demographics... I went about a dozen turns without checking the power ranking and it was during those dozen turns that Shoot cranked out tons of Horse Archers. The weakness of my start was that I had no metal, and I definitely didn't have near the HA's that he had. He also had very little pop (compared to me - the leader), so his army was even bigger than his ranking showed. I was already dealing with Bob doing some pillaging (had no answer for his spears), so when that stack showed it was gg for me. It sounds like Bob more or less cleaned up from then, as he was the only one who was relatively close to me in the demos when I died. Very fun game, despite the ending. Maybe we can get another night to play in the next week or so. |
