Two Game Reports

Now that the patch is out, I have finally been able to post two solo games I played on 1.61 pre-release. I thought I'd post an announcement here in our forums, not because I'm trying to promote my website, but because I know a lot of people will likely enjoy reading through them. Enjoy taking a look at Emperor Metalman and Cathy's Romp. smile

Nice reports - thank you. I agree with you about the question mark. Just plain silly.

Quite the interesting reports there. Thanks for writing them up.

One little nitpick, though: in the Metalman report you referred to Cyrus as organized. Isn't he creative/expansive? It might have been a typo that meant to say Tokugawa.

nice reports Sullla, nice games. Cossacks are the one real overpowered UU in my mind.

Well, I was posting this bug in the civfantic bug forum. I wanted the old Civ3 style of fighting back, where during the battle you would see the health counter go down. This way you would start to sweat seeing your unit go red.
Of course, I didn't mean a ? without any clue how the battle is going. Maybe we should be able to see how the health of the unit goes down during the battle to simulate the old 'nice effect'.

Thanks for taking the time to produce such nice write-ups. thumbsup

I agree on the usefulness of the creative trait. With theaters and colosseums, you've got 2.5 times the lux slider power of CivIII. I've found in my SG's that people haven't really gotten a feel for how many extra citizens this makes available if you take care to grow out your cities to the expanded happy limits. Health tends to be my limiting factor more so than happiness.

If you want to have some fun with culture battles, play the Holy Roman Empire in the 1000AD scenario (great all-around scenario, BTW - England, Mali, Mongols, Aztecs, India all play entirely differently). Just flipped Paris in my current game. eek

Also agree on the importance of AI warring to game difficulty. My first loss (first game that was really even close) came playing Monty on Emperor pre-1.52. I played too timidly and not a shot was fired the entire game. Mansa built Apollo in the 1660's and launched in the 1840's. eek

Guess if you're the aggressive civ, its up to you to stir things up.

Might make it more realistic and improve game play to require actual war-fighting to learn some of the military techs.

Nice reports. Winning on emperor is still way in the future for me.
One question I have though.
You mentioned that after loosing that wheat you ran into some health problems. You also mentioned that you built the factory/coal plant couple in a lot of cities.
The coal plant add one unhealthiness for providing power and boost production.
Now, in the later game, cleaner power sources like water and nuclear are available. I am just wondering what building a nuclear power plant in a city that already has a coal plant will have as an effect on the health?
Similarily, say I have lots of coal plants in my cities and I am finishing the Gorgeous Dam to provide power to the continent, how can I get rid of the now obselete coal plants?

Cyrus was Organized at one point in time. I forgot that we swapped his traits with Rome at the last minute. Argh! That's what I get for playing two full games as Cyrus before release. lol

I'm not sure what happens with the power plants if you build another one to replace your coal plant. Is it possible to get rid of your coal plant? Maybe someone else who's played around with this can fill us in.

I don't remember exactly, but I'm relativly sure that health penalties vanish as soon as you build the "cleaner" power plants. As far as I remember selling the older plants like in previous versions isn't possible.

Don't stone me to death if I told you BS wink .

I did not realize that Catherine had a stutter wink Your screenshot from the Emperor Metalman game when she declares war on you has her saying "shall" twice in a row lol
