Werewolf 2 Lurker Thread: Spoilers!

There's a reason I unsubscribed from the thread after dying...I don't need those walls showing up in my inbox constantly. It does take out a lot of the fun, because Roland's making the game into work.

Agreed, novice, but I DO have evidence. I think that's why I'm dead. MNG contacted me, and I mentioned that I'd talked to Hap, as well. With Hap being scanned, and me being dead, I think that's too much of a coincidence. Of course, the information's mostly lost in the netherworld: Hap may have some inkling, but MNG is fine.

Dantski is being uncharacteristically helpful this time around... he must be a wolf. smile

Roles chosen by players themselves have no impact on the game, but they have to post from that perspective. No real in-game impact intended, just an attempt to cultivate some atmosphere =)

Yeah, a themed game would be fun. I actually have a suggestion for a theme, which should allow for some fun role-play. (Not offering to host though).

Recognize this village? It is the home of a number of colorful Gauls, so everybody could pick a character to role-play. The host could spin a nice back-story too if he wanted to, perhaps including some special roles. (For example, whoever plays Obelix could be an unkillable innocent, but too dumb/nice to vote).

If somebody wants to go ahead with this theme, I'd like to reserve a sign-up in advance for the Cacofonix character. smile

By the way, I think a game like this should forbid out-of-thread communication, to maximize roleplay. If that disadvantages the villagers, it will have to be rebalanced by other means. (We could even forbid communication between bad guys; they would know each other, but have no way to discuss privately. They could secretly vote for who to kill every night).

I totally agree on the minimizing out-of-thread communication, making it exclusive for wolves and masons (and maybe villagers confirmed by thwarted night-time attacks).

A theme for roles could work, although I'm not terribly familiar with Astrix outside of the Latin classes I took in high school lol I was thinking more of generic roles, like butcher or traveling salesman or hardboiled detective (I call that last one!). We had plot line roles in WWI, but Selrahc assigned them and they only came up through the end of day / night write-ups.

Irgy Wrote:My theory here is simple. Whatever criterion you use to vote for people, the wolves can react to it to avoid the vote. So what I do is, rather than trying to guess what the wolves are doing, I just choose strategies that encourage them to do what we want them to do. Hence punishing quiet players on day one, it's not that the wolves can't counter it by being noisy, it's that the wolves have to be noisy to counter it. As a result, they have to open themselves up to making mistakes that others can pick up with their psychology.

So my approach for today is to punish people who voted to the wolves' benefit. Not so much because people who voted wrong are wolves, but because if wolves are punished for voting in their own interests, they can only counter it by voting against their interests. And that is profit for us. It sucks a little for the villagers, who don't really know who's interests they're voting in, but you have that problem with any strategy.

Good stuff by Irgy here.

You took Latin in high school and want to be a hard boiled detective? Complex character! lol

Regarding "villagers confirmed by thwarted night-time attacks", I think that's a bit of a slippery slope. If one mason is a confirmed innocent, shouldn't whoever he claims is the other mason also be considered innocent? Etc.

Perhaps side-step the whole masons issue by adding some other power roles instead, and ban out-of-thread communication for all villagers, period.

some Masson chats (no names)

[2/16/11 11:35:13 AM] Mason 1: but how else can I convince the seer/baner to come forward
[2/16/11 11:35:30 AM] Mason 2: I was thinking...maybe we should just pick a villager at random and ask them to join the voting block
[2/16/11 11:35:50 AM] Mason 2: like put total trust in one random player
[2/16/11 11:35:58 AM] Mason 1: haha, random shot?
[2/16/11 11:36:02 AM] Mason 2: yeah
[2/16/11 11:36:20 AM] Mason 1: 6 wereworlves, 19 others, so basically a 2/3 chance that anyone else is innocent
[2/16/11 11:36:24 AM] Mason 2: the odds are about 60% in our favor
[2/16/11 11:36:55 AM] Mason 2: crazy way to play?
[2/16/11 11:37:06 AM] Mason 1: it does seem kinda crazy
[2/16/11 11:37:13 AM] Mason 2: crazy like a fox

They also wanted me to ask the lurkers to guess if they went threw with their plan or not.

Kyan Wrote:Guys,

I am PM'ing you because i am totally convinced of your innocence in the werewolf game.

Sareln- because of the reasons i posted in the game thread. There was zero benefit for him risking saving Sandover to save himself if he was a wolf.

Luddite- because i tracked your movements last night and you never left your house.

MJW- i've spoken to you enough to believe your innocence and Sandover rubber-stamped it for me.

I have a secret role in this game on the villager side called The Owl. I can choose a person to watch in each night phase and i am told if they leave their house and, if so, who they visit.

I have clarified with fire and ice and the following people leave their house at night:

-seer
-baner
-werewolves
-devil

Since i know Luddite didn't leave his house, you must be a villager. In fact, i believe you to be more than that. MJW has told me that you're a mason and i didn't want to just take his or your word for it. Hence why i checked it out myself for confirmation. The idea is that this wouldn't waste a turn because by discovering a mason, i discover two innocent parties.

I'm open to reccomendations for future watchings but Lewwyn is someone i intend to take a close eye on shortly and will be re-reading his posts.

I would request that this information is NOT passed to Roland. I am not at all convinced of his innocence. If you like, i can watch him tomoro? Perhaps MJW can PM him and demand to know if he's a power role. If he says no and he leaves his house- then we lynch him the next day?

My email is kyanrbpb3@gmail.com should you ever need to chat. Let's get organised.

MJW (ya that one) Wrote:For some reason your postings make me trust you. lol I think Sandover may be a werewolf because his devil theory makes no sense. The evil side is already informed of who is good or evil. I think he might have came up with a weird plot but did not check if the pieces fit all together. smoke However, Roland's theory mostly does.

I'll keep my vote on Rowain but would switch to Dantski because he is going to get lyched unless a seer clears him. He would also be mostly useless.

But all this is not the real point of this e-mail nono I got a PM from Kyan telling me it might be a good idea to protect the mayor. I said that I had to make a hard choice and he used the phase "hehe". All this made me suspect that he was a werewolf. So I made that silly post and he reacted to it to try and look like a villagar. A real villagar like you would not react to a post like that nono . I PMed him about it and he sent an even more wolfish PM. using phases like "your're the only one who I can trust" and "I'll stop people from lyching you". lol So I think he is a wolf.

I have come up with a plan to take him down. I will PM him saying that I'll protect the new mayor giving the wolves the perfect opening to take me down. I will of course protect myself. However, in order to tell the wolves that I will not be protecting myself I have to come up with a cover story. I will tell Kyan that you are a Mason that contacted me and that I am telling him right now because I might die because I am protecting the mayor. The wolfs in their hearts won't believe it but will still try and kill me because it risking a single werewolf to kill the banner which is at least the second most important role. lol

I'll look really silly if you are a wolf but that is a risk I am taking. I think the rules are to good for the wolfs and villagers have to play aggesively. I also should draw your eyes to a post I made in the planning thread where I said I hope I was not the banner. lol

Goodbye for now,
MJW

Im glad the owl got bloody luck and is realy good cause the seer is smoking serious weed smoke

Also this answers somones question about how MJW knew that the owl existed.

If i get some chats or pms between wolves they will go up here as well.

Roland requested to me to give you guys what he believes are villager werewolf roles.

Since Lewwyn won't post this on my behalf, I'll throw it out to you myself - I want it out there early, in case I'm right (or wrong!). smile

* - Gaspar and Uberfish are a bit of a grey area. I can see them swinging either way. Irgy has done much to earn trust - which, combined with his latest vote, also gives me reason to suspect him as a potential Werewolf - perhaps even the Devil. We shall see.

^ - Irgy, Selrahc, and Sunrise089 all strike me as the best candidates for our Seer. Irgy's probably the least likely of the three for that role, but still a possibility.

Oh, and haphazard1, Mr. Nice Guy, and Sareln are almost certain to be Villagers at this point. They're not in the Circle of Trust yet, but they all have their reasons for being much more likely Villagers than Werewolves.

Just musing for now.

Wow - that's looking pretty accurate for being day 2, based on what I've picked up from all the spoilers.
