Okay Turn 61 played. Only a few more folks to play so we should get in another turn before too long today

The big news!

I moved our scout to the wine tile (green circle), defogging the coast around to SleepingMoogle.

So as noted in the green square, we now have a trade route! I tried to open borders with him, but there was no option to do so. This confused me, until I went back and re-read his email and saw that he will complete Writing at the END of this turn.

So we'll make sure to do that when the turn flips.

He has 4 cities, so if all of them are connected by road, and if I understand the trade route mechanics correctly (this thread, specifically post #76, was very useful), then we should see quite the increase in bpt next turn.

Currently we're getting 2cpt in trade route income, but we should be able to go up to 10cpt with OB. That will almost double our research rate, which would be "a good thing" ™

Another thing to note - the existence of a wine tile! That's the first one I've seen - "our" area does not have one, at least as far as I can tell, and that, sugar and spices are I think the only resources "we" don't have.

Email from Moogle

Quote:I can't actually propose Open Borders until turn 62, but feel free to request it once the turn has rolled over if I haven't done so already (Adlain still needs to finish the turn at the time of this writing). Lord Parkin's Warrior is at the border waiting for Open Borders as well, so you may very well meet up while you're both inside of my borders.

Regarding the scouts in the south, I was hoping to find another way east further towards the north. There is no such possibility though? In that case, turning around and requesting open borders with Locke may indeed be the best bet. It may be possible to go around his borders and travel east south of them (those tiles are still fogged for me), but this may already have been blocked off as well.

Pleasant dreams,

Quote:Right - I was VERY confused when I logged in to play (T61) and didn't see any options for open borders with you :-). Then I re-read your email and found that you said Writing wouldn't come in till the end of the turn.

As far as we have been able to tell, there is no opening any further east near Locke. I believe that Locke has said that you can reach Nakor's lands through his though - we are heading south to find out!

Chat with sunrise, with the parts where we discuss optimal answers to a job interview question of "What's your biggest weakness" unfortunately edited out. My favorite suggestion was "when coordinating multi-civ attacks of other players, I don't always land on the right staging tile"

Quote:(1:21:34 PM) regoarrarr: so Ob with moogle next turn i think
(1:21:51 PM) sunrise089: nice
(1:21:57 PM) sunrise089: no one balking at our GLighthouse?
(1:22:02 PM) regoarrarr: not yet
(1:22:10 PM) regoarrarr: if/when we're top of the heap
(1:22:11 PM) sunrise089: how many civs do we need OB with?
(1:22:12 PM) regoarrarr: that might change
(1:22:14 PM) sunrise089: only like 2-3, right?
(1:22:16 PM) regoarrarr: at this point just 1-2
(1:22:28 PM) regoarrarr: post currency and with many cities, probably 4 or so to get full routes
(1:22:38 PM) sunrise089: with so many civs and so much coastal I think our wonder will be pretty nice
(1:22:43 PM) regoarrarr: agreed
(1:22:48 PM) regoarrarr: that's why we built it aftr all ;-)
(1:22:49 PM) sunrise089: I really don't see a lot of military action we can't handle
(1:22:57 PM) regoarrarr: right
(1:23:07 PM) regoarrarr: the other civs should just go ahead and concede at this point i'd say
(1:23:14 PM) sunrise089: I guess our weakness is just someone that snowballs out to 10 cities when we have 4-6
(1:23:16 PM) sunrise089: wink
(1:23:19 PM) regoarrarr: right
(1:23:24 PM) regoarrarr: we are already down 5 to 2 to some civs
(1:23:28 PM) regoarrarr: at least plako
(1:23:33 PM) sunrise089: but really with poor commerce land I'm not sure they won't see a tech dropoff
(1:23:36 PM) sunrise089: what difficulty is this?
(1:23:40 PM) regoarrarr: not sure
(1:23:44 PM) sunrise089: are there a lot of rivers? I don't recall seeing a loty
(1:24:07 PM) regoarrarr: monarch
(1:24:13 PM) regoarrarr: i'd say there's a normal amount of rivers
(1:24:37 PM) regoarrarr: did you see my analysis of how many cities we can support?
(1:24:39 PM) regoarrarr: last night
(1:26:33 PM) sunrise089: yes
(1:26:34 PM) sunrise089: 6
(1:26:38 PM) regoarrarr: right
(1:26:49 PM) regoarrarr: that may be higher if we can get foreign trade routes too
(1:26:51 PM) sunrise089: how many warriors do we have?
(1:27:01 PM) regoarrarr: 5?
(1:27:05 PM) regoarrarr: one more in prod
(1:27:16 PM) regoarrarr: for mp?
(1:29:07 PM) sunrise089: yeah
(1:29:08 PM) regoarrarr: the basic plan i followed in my test game was
(1:29:13 PM) regoarrarr: myst-pottery-ah-writing-IW
(1:29:17 PM) sunrise089: well I'm thinking we can put a warrior in each on
(1:29:20 PM) regoarrarr: right
(1:29:22 PM) sunrise089: and have 1 axe in the front city
(1:29:29 PM) sunrise089: and then some Impis to move around
(1:29:32 PM) regoarrarr: right
(1:29:38 PM) regoarrarr: we definitely want some impis to stake out "our" claims
(1:29:41 PM) regoarrarr: like east of reading
(1:29:43 PM) regoarrarr: and south towards plako
(1:29:44 PM) sunrise089: I mean if there ANY threat to backline cities other than a galley offloading?
(1:29:48 PM) regoarrarr: no
(1:30:05 PM) sunrise089: so do you think the right call if bullying into the middle?
(1:30:14 PM) sunrise089: or is it really unnececessary because the map is so big?
(1:30:28 PM) regoarrarr: well generally i think more land = good
(1:30:43 PM) regoarrarr: so i think we take as much as we can get away with
(1:30:44 PM) sunrise089: right, but like in RBP1 people didnt fill in their land until post-liberalism
(1:30:49 PM) sunrise089: ok
(1:31:05 PM) regoarrarr: for cities i think 3rd goes in between our existing cities
(1:31:13 PM) regoarrarr: 4th goes south of reading for furs / shared corn
(1:31:23 PM) regoarrarr: 5th maybe pigs / ivory (not coastal)
(1:32:03 PM) regoarrarr: settle jungle south rice post-IW
(1:32:12 PM) regoarrarr: or one of our jungle gems
(1:33:28 PM) regoarrarr: [Image: civ4screenshot0087.jpg]
(1:33:30 PM) regoarrarr: this is our south
(1:33:39 PM) regoarrarr: i'm wondering if this is a dead end
(1:34:10 PM) regoarrarr: if so, then we want to try and get that land too
(1:34:20 PM) regoarrarr: maybe a city 1W of copper?
(1:34:22 PM) regoarrarr: or 1SW
(1:34:24 PM) sunrise089: are WEs allowed?
(1:34:38 PM) regoarrarr: no
(1:35:11 PM) sunrise089: ok, good
(1:35:17 PM) sunrise089: well, sort of good
(1:37:46 PM) regoarrarr: probably not worth settling the tundra silver early just to increase happy cap
(1:37:54 PM) sunrise089: coastal?
(1:37:56 PM) regoarrarr: y
(1:38:03 PM) sunrise089: well, the city is probably worth it
(1:38:08 PM) regoarrarr: for sure eventually
(1:38:11 PM) sunrise089: but maybe not at the coast of a better city
(1:38:12 PM) regoarrarr: but it's like 12 tiles north
(1:38:15 PM) regoarrarr: [Image: civ4screenshot0074.jpg]
(1:39:08 PM) regoarrarr: 12N3W of vine

A bit of a worker / city MM plan:

* Current turn is 61.

Adam:
* just moved to the plains forested hill near Vine
* Chop that 62-64

Bill:
* Just finished roading the grass hill mine near Reading
* 61: Move to gold
* 62-63: Road gold

Vine:
* Working on settler, due in 5
* But it will REALLY be due in 3 (T64) due to chop coming in

Reading:
* Just finished Ihkanda and put on a warrior which I will interrupt in 2 turns when Mysticism comes in to slip in a monument

Okay that's not much of a plan - I'll try to flesh that out a bit more later

Turn 62 played and ...

Note how the game engine screwed us out of 1 cpt frown

For MM purposes later
Vine is at 25/30 and 48/100 on a settler, making 4fpt and 12hpt
Reading is at 16/24 and 5/15 on a warrior, making 3fpt and 4hpt
