Ok, first thing to think about, is that for game balance reasons, Wildlands were turned off and we dont have the bonus movement on the starting settler.

So that means he doesn't want us moving too far from our starting position. that means we are too near eachother and may bump into us, or there is something just out in the fog. maybe animal dens?

Either way to me, that makes a farmers gambit a bad idea on this map

Ok, here are my thoughts on the pick:


Can't start with Mercurians or Infernals so they are gone

Starts are not going to be themed, so can strike out all civs that need a certain terrain to be effective: Malakim, Ljosalfar, Lanun, Illian, Svartalfar

Not interested in playing with the armegedon counter, so Elohim and Sheim can go

Don't want a rush civ, so byebye Dovielo, Clan (almost kicked Hippus too)

I am currently ded lurking Luchuirp, so they are out

It feels Calabim have been done to death and are too obvious, so they go too.

Crusades dont thrill me, want a bit more stability so Banner goes

Khazad vault mechanism would do my head in, so they go

Basing my civ on special people doesnt appeal so Grigori go

Very close to considering Balseraphs, but just too wierd for me


That leaves:
Kuriotates (Cardith)
Hippus (Rhoanna)
Amurites (Dain)

Since the Amurites have done been done yet (as far as I can see) I went for them first, then since anybody going Kuriotates has to live under PB's shadow I put them in 3rd.

Well, lets look at opponents:
Ichabod is Kandros Fir of Khazad
Irgy is Cardith Lorda of the Kuriotates
Jkaen is Dain of Amurites
Dantski is Ethne of Elohim
Selrahc is Hannah of Lanun
Sciz is Tasunke of Hippus

Ok, as far as skill levels go, I am probably a bit out of my depth on this game, but it does seem we don't have many in the way of rush civs. Keep Sciz happy and hopefully I should be ok early game.

Just got to hope mana nodes are plentiful. Will probably try to focus on the magic and recon lines. Magic is obvious. Recon partly because I want to play with chanters, and partly because after magic collateral damage, the city attack bonus should not hurt too much, and capturing animals may be very handy in the early stages

Settled in place, and am exploring around. Build set to warrior, research to Agriculture. No huts or similar spotted yet

Can you post a screenshot of what has been discovered so far? There's quite a few lurkers who haven't seen the map, so they'd likely be interested.

Sorry really busy at work right now, will update with pictures soon

Tech wise I realised I had the floaty eyeball spell, so hawks were less important, so thinking of heading down magic and archery routes now, but we will see
