Good damn game. You know, it dawned on me after I posted - as I was eating my lunch - that I missed the other possibility:
- Most of the 'Wolves put forth one Villager, while a lone 'Wolf put forth a second Villager, so that no matter what a Villager would be on the block (and with our records we probably had already fingered the two).
I kept questioning my vote, all damn day. The more it came down to it, the more I was becoming convinced of scooter, and to a lesser extent zakalwe (for backing him up). Of course, I didn't have a read on Gold Ergo Sum except to suspect him "just because", and indeed his suddenly helpful nature did make him suspicious - but I tried to back away from that thought. So, in the end, I suspected everyone about the same, but leaning towards scooter or zakalwe. Now, you're probably asking me, "Roland, why didn't you vote for either of those when Meiz did?" Well, the answer is... I have no idea. Dumb move on my part, but honestly the thought didn't occur to me until after I had cast my vote and walked away, and by the time I got back the turn was over. So... yeah. I waited throughout the whole damn Day phase to try and get a read on who the 'Wolves were, and when it finally starts to creep up in the back of my mind I was too late. Figures.
I sure as hell wasn't sure about the theory, otherwise I would have rushed back to try. I was resigned to my vote, regardless of anything else, because the more I thought about it the more excuses I came up with to hang anyone, so I just let it go. The only thing that made this last one stand out to me was the fact that ALL game long we've had Villagers on the block so why should this one be any different? The 'Wolves had absolutely nothing to lose, and splitting their votes would make the most sense - but again, I didn't think about that last bit (the most crucial part) until it was too late. I just didn't see any reason NOT to push for a Villager (sorry Jkaen, but they had every reason to rush it; I'm surprised you didn't see that).
I think I convinced myself of Jkaen over Gold Ergo Sum... well, I don't know how, to be honest. I kept saying "No 'Wolf would ever be so blatantly obvious as to have a list entirely of Villagers," but then I took that and flipped it on its head. I figured everything we'd tried up until then for theories had been wrong, so why not try something different? It figures - the one time I get a theory right is the one time I don't use it (if only because it didn't occur to me in time). Honestly, I didn't know where to put my vote. I just knew it didn't belong on Meiz. Too many, too quick. I just couldn't pick among the group, and I wanted to try to spare Meiz - Jkaen was his only shot. That's right - I remember now. I picked Jkaen to spare Meiz. That's why it occurred to me during lunch that I probably just fell right into their trap - or at least the other half.
Bah, what a game. Fun throughout, and challenging. Certain things seem so obvious now, but mostly I think that's because it's just like I said: there was no reason not to be obvious. After all, it didn't matter if killing a Villager exposed them, because their work was done, and with both Serdoa and Jkaen (now known Villagers) on Meiz, there was no way for them to lose unless someone switched. Everything before that, though... well, the 'Wolves played it right. Bruindane put only one 'Wolf up for a vote, and every time we got close to lynching either zakalwe or scooter we somehow got pulled away - and I never really gave it much thought. If not for novice I probably wouldn't have even looked at scooter until my Lewwyn / Meiz / scooter theory, and then scooter was the one I least suspected! Yeah, I really didn't have anything to offer this game. Selrahc was a lucky kill, and no one else I ever believed was a 'Wolf (except for scooter) ended up being one. I don't know what's worse: being blinded with conviction, or blinded with doubt. :neenernee I think I spent most of the game in the latter half, but if I hadn't I wouldn't have been any more right.
I'm disappointed we lost, and I'm disappointed I didn't think of the answer until it was too late. Other than that I'm happy for the game, the company, and just everything else. It's been fun, as I said, and very challenging. I still don't know if it was more that they played well or we played terrible (neither is in contention; I just want to know how much I have to improve for next time :neenernee). Ah well. Enough rambling. Good game everyone.
