[SPOILERS] The Reverend Suryavarman II of Babylon

As I'm sure you've heard, I attacked Athlete a turn or two ago.

That fake war with Nakor probably didn't do anything but cost me a worker. At least we know we can trust one another.

How does the war fare you ask?

Athlete is not going to be happy with the crazy (good) luck I got with catapult withdrawals.

Intrusive gem-controlling city is mine now. (my horse archer group in the south isn't faring too well though.)

Here's the situation currently when I hit end turn:

Unfortunately I used a lot of unit movement taking the city and all that is protecting it is a full strength bowman and spear.

Athlete's units are not a stack like it shows. Spearman is by himself to the E and the catapult SE of that is grouped with a few workers. Hopefully there's nothing I can't see that will recapture the city.

Not a lot of action on the interturn. Athlete probed with a catapult but I guess didn't like the odds afterward and there was no further attack.

Here's my shot at a sort of composite screen shot(put in spoilers cause its wiiiide)

The highlighted box is my stack doing some healing in and defending the newly named Sloth.

The event log shows some good news and bad news.

Bad: Athlete has civil service and can start cranking some beserkers. (Which I still think were going to come after me anyway, and also why Machinery will be my next tech)

Good: I killed a spear and catapult and captured 3 workers with no losses. The most forward 2 of which were deleted. Hopefully that third one doesn't get recaptured and can retreat to my territory to replace the one I need to gift Nakor.

I have a few HAs vulnerable to counter attack, and either those workers were poorly placed or were a trap and he'll kill a couple HAs. Hopefully the fact that there were so many workers just means they got caught in the open.

Didn't I use to have a lot more cities?

So saying the war with Lewwyn (formerly Athlete) isn't going well would be an understatement. He whipped his cities more than I thought he'd be willing to, not to mention those aggressive beserkers have been pretty formidable foes.

What used to be my land.

So basically I'll be in OCC (sorta) mode until I'm eliminated. Hopefully I can cause Lewwyn some problems until that happens.

A couple questions if anyone is actually bothering to read:

1. Was letting Nakor capture Temperance against the spirit of our rules? I'm pretty firmly in the 'no' camp. When it was my last city on the main continent he came asking if he could take it... With the implicit understanding if I said no he could easily take it anyway.(He didn't say that, but it was blatantly obvious)

So I said yeah attack, but I'm not giving it to you. It only had 2 bowmen in it, but I suppose I could have whipped something else, but didn't want to make it harder for Nakor for no reason.

2. Has everyone else already realized how lame it is that enemy ships can blockade and make water tiles you have units on unusable? rolleye

BTW: Apparently there are like 4 more PBEMs happening and even an adventure that are kinda spread out in other forums! Who knew.

Hey there,

I am glad you have done an update after all this time as this game was really interesting! As to your questions:

1 - No, I don't think so. I compare it to what would someone do in SP civ and if someone is getting a beating (sorry) then it is usually a good idea to tag along for easy gains. I'm certainly glad that you made him fight for it rather than gifting which would have been against the spirit imo. Maybe you should have made it harder - it doesn't look as if he had any trouble taking it.

2 - Yes - the blockade feature is totally broken. 3 squares is quite frankly silly. It has been addressed in the RB mod (1 square now). It always amazed me how a 2 move galley could blockade an area 6 or 7 tiles wide....

Cheers,
SL

And the once mighty Babylonian empire is reduced to whence it came.... a lonely island outpost but with a single warrior for defense.

Obviously I shouldn't be getting the save back... I'll try to put my thoughts together and throw up a "why I lost" post that goes beyond 'well, duh, my opponents played better'
