SG4-Immortality Scares Me

I knew the river didn't irrigate it, but I just glanced quickly and thought it was a lake, and not coast.

EDIT: And yes, standard size, and Big & Small with random island types.

Ohho! That map script tends to make GLH awesome. GLH + offshore cities = uncrashable economy.

So at this point, we just need to nail down a tech path, build order, and what we want to improve for the first 20 turns, and I can get us rolling tonight.

Right now I am thinking Ag-->Fishing-->BW

Build: Worker-->Warrior swap to WB when fishing finishes-->????

Do we want to finish the warrior and then do a second WB while growing, produce a settler, or second worker and then settler, or grow up to happy cap and then make worker/settler?

What tiles do we want improved first? Corn-->mine stone (even though we will quarry later?)-->???

I struggle with these types of decisions honestly, so please take this with several scoops of salt.

I like this part:

Quote:Build: Worker-->Warrior swap to WB when fishing finishes

I don't think a second WB is necessary until after our first settler... I'd be in favor of getting a quick second city since we already have a really nice spot for one that borrows the clams from the capital. Potentially something like

1. Worker
2. Warrior (while research fishing)
3. WB (when fishing comes on... warr in queue)
4. Finish warrior.
5. Settler for city just west of our capital
6. Quick WB for clam that can be shared by capital or new city

This seems like a nice way to take advantage of our seafood and get a quick start. It feels slightly unconventional, but without simming everything out (not need, it's just a SG), it sounds solid to me. ThoughtS?

Would be slick if we could coincide this with the same turn that City2 pops its borders (yay creative!). Not remotely necessary, just a fun thought that popped into my head. smile

Even though you have a nice location west of the capital, I don't think you should plan to get your second city there so fast.

Getting a strategic resource would have to be one of your top priorities to handle the barbs and you may find a good place for a blocking city against the AI (albeit on immortal, you can use the third and fourth city as blockers).

I will go ahead and try to play this before I go to bed tonight, so if anyone has some specific input, I am all ears.

It's really tricky to say what's best, with this start. I don't like being forced to mine the stone with the worker- really wish we started with fishing, here! What about researching fishing first, start on a worker, then switch to the WB as soon as fishing finishes. Then agriculture, BW.

It's kind of tough to say how far we want to grow the capital. That really depends on how good the surrounding land is, I suppose. We could grow it up to size 5, which is as high as it'll go without a warrior or any happiness resources. I'd say the best bet would be to put the hammers from chopping into a second worker and then settler, but let the capital grow and build work boats when the chops aren't finished.

How long will Fishing/Agriculture/BW each take to research on these settings, anyway? That seems like a really critical piece of information.

Edit: My hunch is you want to finish the first worker before starting a WB.

Worker 1st lets you improve two 5 yield tiles quickly (corn + mined marble). Fishing--WB gets you off to a slower start than wb--worker)

Your worker will be idle for a few turns before bronze comes in but that isn't the end of the world. wink

It would also be a good idea to plan on building a few more warriors than you think you need. Barbs archers spawn early on Immortal so you'll want to get some spawnbusters out sooner rather than later.
