Wow, wtf happened? I never had that issue and always made sure to have a decent fleet of Tier2 guys around to smack them when they showed up.

This a special event I haven't fired?

I think that the Von Neumann Beserkers they send to strip mine plants have to be able to collect enough resources. Once they collect enough resources, they build a system killer which unlike the normal one wanders around randomly instead of a straight line...

It destroys whole systems which is quite annoying for humans.

Berserkers don't collect resources, they are there to retaliate against people who blow up the VN motherships the collectors come from. The Construct is there to tackle those who are strong enough to take out the Berserkers. smile

But yes, they do have to gather resources to build the bigger stuff like Berserkers and Constructs. Mind, they don't have to gather them just from you. wink

That's another thing, it's sometimes really annoyingly hard to detect incoming ships, or at least have them show up in your notifications properly (especially those stupid AI raiding parties). banghead banghead banghead Either that or I fail at the UI.

Not all encounters are visible on the map. Some (like the aforementioned trade route raiders) are actually random encounters. You don't usually get notice of these, though building science stations can help. For actual enemy scouts, colonizers, and regular warships, though, you can spot them on the strategic map and/or use the enemy colonies page to get a summary of incoming enemy fleets. Deep scan sections on at least some of your ships will help with this.

Note that the more battles you fight with enemies on the strategic map, the fewer random encounters you will tend to get (since the game is trying to avoid overloading you with too many fights all at once but doesn't want you to get bored either.) Certain random encounters like trade route raiders and VNs will still happen, thought.

Double click the bottom bar for a scrollable news window in the upper right.

Its kinda annoying if you have freighters though because you'll get many nags.

I already do that so I don't accidentally forget my mining fleet somewhere. However, sometimes I don't get notifications about incoming fleets but I can spot them on the strategic map.

Are you running 1.8.0? I know there was at one point a bug regarding incoming fleet notifications but all such bugs to my knowledge have since been fixed.

I take it that patch 1.8.0 involves the expansion? This seems to be it on Amazon. I am guessing there wasn't any retail box for the expansion and it's simply download only? Does it require Steam?
