I wouldn't mind joining up. It's good training for multiplayer paranoia.

OK, we have 5 definites:
gingereagle1969 [me ]
Sareln
Ioan76
SleepingMoogle
Nicolae Carpathia
and 2 possibles:
Malakai
Lewwyn
and 2 ded-lurkers/team-mates
DMOC
Kyan
Map-maker:
SevenSpirits
If Malakai and/or Lewwyn can confirm entry, and if both do, would DMOC go solo? This would gives us 8 civs [6 if either Malakai or Lewwyn drops out and goes ded-lurker/team-mate]
Now we need to discuss settings:
Map-size & type?
Barbarians?
Difficulty?
Speed?
Tech Trade?
Events?
Vassals?
Huts?
CTON?
Civ/Leader restrictions?
Timezone/preferred paying time?
my prefs:
Quote:Map-size & type? as big as possible, no small islands, rest as map-maker's discretion
Barbarians? none preferred, but definitely not raging
Difficulty? Prince at max
Speed? Quick or Normal
Tech Trade? Broking maybe?
Events? Off
Vassals? On
Huts? Either
CTON? Maybe
Civ/Leader restrictions? Unrestricted, should we knock out the over-powered ones?
Timezone/preferred paying time? BST [GMT+1] 10am-12noon & 9pm-12midnight
PBEM12 - Shaka of Inca [6/6*] PBEM18 (Apps) - Augustus of China [4/4*] PBEM31 - Hannibal of Greece [jnt2-4/5*] PBEM72 - Willem of Oranje - Dutch [3/4*] PBEM74A -Catherine of Babylon [4/4][*ended early]

Are you sure you wish to have a group of 8 players? I understand that you don't want a highly competitive game, but with 8 players you run a high risk of having the save move slowly. For me, personally, an integral part of a good PBEM experience has to do with the save moving at a steady speed.

A lot of game settings pretty much depend on each other. But as noted, I prefer a CTON game given it's fairly low maintance. If the preference is to go with more standard settings, then it's probably better for me to step down for someone who can fully commit to the game.
Anyway.. someone mentioned playing with the RB mod. Personally I'd rather not go with this for this game since another game already uses it and offers a solid testing environment, but I can go either way.
Other settings.. (this is with CTON in mind):
Map-size & type: Map-maker's prerogative, but preferring a natural, balanced map over mirrored starts
Barbarians: On, and raging if the difficulty is lower than Monarch
Difficulty: Monarch
Speed: Quick
Tech Trade: No (depending of how far CTON goes, this could be impossible to begin with)
Events: On
Vassals: Off
Huts: On
CTON: Yes
Civ/Leader restrictions: See below.
Timezone/preferred paying time: Europe evenings (18.00-22.00 GMT).
A note or two, with diplomacy off the table, leaving events and goody huts on this time around would keep some element of randomness in the game. Same for raging barbs. I don't really expect this to make it into the game itself, but it's my preference anyhow.
Leader/Civ picks: A snake pick with a bit of a twist. Every participant selects one leader and one Civ beforehand, which become unavailable for the game (double picks are okay). The remaining leaders and Civs become the pool from which we can select.
And one more note: If we are aiming for 8 Civs, it probably becomes very hard to expect a turn a day. Better to aim for one turn per 2-3 days instead, but that's another reason to pick Quick speed.

I think 8 could work ... so long as, naming no names here from PBEM12, we all check our email account at least once a day ... besides, all PBEMs seem to slow down as the game progresses, this slow-down will only happen a bit sooner, that's all

GE, I think you're actually underestimating that PBEM12 went lightning fast as PBEMs go. Seriously, if you look around these boards, we moved about as quick as any other game, and we had 6 players, which is about the maximum that is considered optimal. The only slow downs were the rare missed day from Whosit, and I think we missed it once. If you go 8 players, you're going to stall out a lot.
But its your game, have fun with it. I'd actually really like to do a CTON sometime, but I don't think this is my game, good luck to everyone.
I've got some dirt on my shoulder, can you brush it off for me?

Don't forget that the 8 players doesn't include me yet since I would need a teammate to play turns. If I can't get a teammate then I'll just wait until PBEM 19 or PB 5 begins.

Nice! I really hope I can do a better job with city growth this time around.
Count me in. How many does that give us? I'd be fine with 8 but we can go with 6 or 7.
Nakor, I can play turns after May 25th, since I'll be back with my PC.
