I notice that we're running an engineer in MM right now. That was assigned automatically by the governor, right? I'm going to fire him and run scientists, instead.

Also, since we've got civil service coming up, and MM isn't really producing a lot of commerce or hammers, how do you guys feel about moving the capital?

Where would you like to move the capital to?

Well that's the problem. There aren't any cities that would really benefit from beauracracy right now. Nowhere has very high production without slavery, and nowhere can really work a lot of cottages either. The best might actually be Blanton's, although it would have to steal the wheat from Ssal to work the whole tundra river.

I'm thinking of delaying civil service, and going for literature to build the great library instead. In the long run, we should probably just switch to free speech as soon as we get liberalism.
edit- screw that, let's get philosophy instead and grab taoism. more happiness, and pacifism for more gpp.

The other big problem we have right now is our low happiness cap. We could trade for calender, but that wouldn't help at all. Look how completely empty of luxury resources our territory is.

So, I started by hitting up our AI friends for luxuries. Traded crab to Ramesses for silk, and fish to Charlemagne for spices (plus open borders).
We'll still need more happiness eventually in MM, but this will do for now

And yeah, we could just put Shakespeare's Globe there, but I'd rather put the NE and Oxford there. Once we get representation, it will produce quite a lot of research power.

I double whipped a galley in Bacardi, since there's already a settler there ready to go. Then I followed it up with a three pop whip on the forge, while also whipping the galley in Blanton's, and the granary in Buffalo Trace. The reason I'm whipping so heavily is so that we can switch to caste system, and do this smile

Since we're spiritual, we can switch back to slavery when we need it for something later.

Oh and here's something funny I noticed- When Knob Creek expands it's borders, we'll culture flip that barb city smile No need to attack at all.

I founded a new city on the big island and shipped 2 workers there

We got taoism! It started in Knob Creek, and I spread it to the capital. After converting to taoism and pacificism, we've got a very nice gpp production center.

We popped a great merchant on turn 137. I was hoping for a scientist instead, but that's ok. The merchant could either bulb civil service, or go away for a trade mission. I think I'd rather use him on a trade mission, so i sent him off on a galley. But you guys can bulb CS, if you want.

Turn 138- traded metal casting, priesthood, and a small amount of money to Suleiman for calender, polytheism, and a small amount of gold. Founded Johnny Walker in the far east.

Turn 139- Charlemange declared war on Suleiman! That's interesting.

Overall, still doing quite well. I'm hoping We can beat Ramesses to the Great Library, and then go on towards civil service, education, and use liberalism to take nationalism or constitution.

Oh, and I was focusing spy points on Suleiman, but now that we can see his graphs we might as well switch to someone else.

I'd suggest switching back to slavery after the next great person comes out (should be a scientist to give us an academy) and doing a round of whips. Forges and harbors are both really good for us, right now. It might also be a good idea to set up overflow for the Great Library by whipping the market in MM.

Sounds good, but I can't see the pictures, Luddite...

How about now?

Looking good now! Good job on getting Taoism and making better use of Spiritual. Must remember that for PBEM 18!

GES is up for more expansion and teching.
How bad is it to use the GM to bulb CS and go to Bur? We can then farm everything around MM. Is that a good option beaker-money wise?

The only thing we'd get from bureauracracy is 3 commerce from the coastal tiles, 1 extra hammer from the city tile, and that's it- it's a really bad city for bureauracracy. And right now we already have enough food to grow up to the happy cap just with scientists (that city is seriously food crazy!). So the farms won't do anything until we can get some extra happiness. Maybe once the market is finished they'll be useful, but I don't see why we need to rush CS right now.
