Well my Dad's been on at me for a while now to get a headset for Skype, so now with two reasons I should be able to get around to it!
For those of us who have never been to the MP lobby before, is it easy?

Of course, I said any of those 4 days was fine, but now that I think about it, Wednesday is the worst of the 4 :-). Still, I can make Wednesdays, but I would not be opposed to a switch to Monday or Tuesday :-).
In any case, I had kind of assumed we would be the Allies, but there's no reason we couldn't be either side I suppose. A brief recap of the leaders on each side with their traits, if that matters at all:
Axis Team
Nazi Germany (Germany/Bismarck) ind exp
Fascist Italy (Rome/Caesar) org exp
Imperialist Japan (Japan/Tokugawa) agg org
Fascist Spain (Spain/Isabella) exp spi
Occupied Greece (Greece/Alexander) agg phi
Vichy France (France/Louis) cre ind
1 spi, 1 cre, 2 agg, 1 phi, 2 org, 3 exp, 2 ind, 0 fin
Allied Team
British Empire (England/Victoria) exp fin
Soviet Union (Russia/Peter) exp phi
United States (America/FDR) org ind
Nationalist China (China/Mao) org phi
British India (India/Gandhi) spi ind
Free France (France/Napoleon) agg ind
1 spi, 0 cre, 1 agg, 2 phi, 2 org, 2 exp, 3 ind, 1 fin
So the allies have the only financial, and more ind / phi, which are 3 good traits. Of course, since this is AW, it should be noted that the Axis have more aggressive civs
I think I'd vote for playing the allies, and my first choice of civs would be Gandhi, followed by Vicky or Peter

Well from my days playing Axis & Allies, I always found the Axis were more of a challenge, but tbh I'm not fussed about which side, nor which Civ.
Worth noting also; the Allies only early-game UU (not count FWs) is the Chinese Cho-Ku-No, where the Axis get Phalanx, Praetorians, Samurai and Conquistador ... so maybe the Allies will be more challenging after all.

as I mentioned before here, this WILL be an issue. 400% and more WW can be experienced and it will kill the fun. Two Rat SG's had the same issue and killed the game more or less.
I hope for you guys, that somehow the issue won't arise, but I don't see how that could happen. Anyway, it sounds like a great idea and if I would live in your timezone, I would surely be willing to play this.

I can think of some ways to manage the WW...
For example, multiple teams of higher level AI's. Then wiping one of the teams would eliminate the WW from that team.

I am not very experienced with phi, and I would have no particular favorite as far the rest goes.
I do have a question though. How does research work? Is it like the team games where everyone can pool their research?

You are forgetting the most powerful UU of them all - the indian worker!
I don't have a preference for which civ but I do think we should work as a team - India suppling all the workers, the rest protecting his lands, our aggressive civ building units, etc.
What things work across teams and what things don't? Things like resources, golden ages, wonders, etc.

Well... you should have stated that the first time. That's why I told everyone to list each day as Good, OK, Bad, or Out. How serious is this conflict of interests? I need to know as soon as possible whether to move the date to Tuesday nights. Please get back to me.

Fighting with humans on a team together is not like fighting on a team with AI civs. For starters, all war weariness is cut by 50% in Multiplayer games. Furthermore, war weariness is cut by another 50% by checking Always War in the setup menu. Thirdly, AI civs are idiots and throw away huge numbers of forces in meaningless attacks in enemy territory. As humans, we'll be fighting most of the time within our own territory and can limit the war weariness that builds up. There's still going to be a lot of it, but it should be possible to manage it.
Fourthly, I highly suggest that we build the Pyramids so that we can run Police State. This will be one of the goals for the early game.

That's a good idea, but since this is a bit of a test run for future games, we'll avoid doing that and see how things go naturally. I have played a game of this type from start to finish once (a long time ago), and we were able to do it without war weariness becoming too bad.
If WW proves to just cripple this game completely, we'll know that we need to run a mod with no WW for future games. I'm sure that Blake could whip that out for us in no time.

Teams share research and wonder effects. (Having everyone research the same techs is a no-brainer.) Teams do NOT share resources, and if you have an extra of something, it's a good idea to trade it to someone else. Sending strategic resources to a team member on the front lines is a common move in MP. Golden ages are also not shared but only go to the civ that triggers them (this is why most Great People are used for techs in MP, since everyone can share the effects of the techs). It will all make more sense once you see it in action.
