Bah! I thought the difficulty was Monarch (which I could handle), instead of Emperor (on which I'll probably lose). Aw well, it's only with a few opponents, I'll give it a go. Expect to see the report of my defeat on the 17th!

Um, not sure I want to do this for fear of what might happen, but I have a question regarding the do-over for Hut-popping....

Is the limit set at once per hut, or at once total?

Personally, I read the intent as once per hut, but the wording is strong enough that it could be interpretted the other way also and I wanted to check and make sure.

I personally read it as one time only (once total). If you've already popped one "fishing" hut, then you may want to let the AIs have the other huts.

that's too bad that the rules change makes you 'afeared' to ask questions ~ i suspect others might feel the same way ~

I think there's a difference between asking a question because you genuinely don't understand a rule, and deliberately looking for loopholes, then asking about them. I hope that most players can see the difference there.

oh, no doubt!!

however, Dreylin's merely asking for a rules clarification, but is clearly concerned that askign for one might get the rules changed again.

in the original case, too, i think Dark Savant's initial question re: the rules was merely b/c he didn't read the intro to the game, thinking it didn't contain game rules, not b/c he was trying to exploit a loophole. and as the list of variant rules didn't list the same admonition, his question seemed quite valid until I, myself, read the whole introduction.

Gah, I knew I should have included that winking smiley when I posted the question.... wink

Yeah, I read it that way too - until it gets to the last half-sentence (and associated Coda) which refers to "Hut", singular, and confuses me. huh

For reference:

The Rules Wrote:* You are granted one "do-over" in regard to hut-popping. Save your game before you pop a Goody Hut. If it grants knowledge of Fishing, you may reload (one time only) and avoid popping that hut (let the AIs have it).

I'm happy playing either way, and am very tempted to just impose a voluntary no-hut variant to myself for not understanding the intent! 8)

I'm in for this Epic: Me wanna crush the defilers of the sacred water!

(Edit: My interpretation of the Hut rule...you pop Fishing once, you reload. You pop Fishing again, you lose. It's Emperor; you're not going to get a shot at many huts anyway.)
