[SPOILERS - PBEM17] novice and spaceman - Suryavarman of India

So I was trying to figure out which map script this is. I realized then that higher than expected distance maintenance implies a smaller than expected map. And this map is freaking small. I fired up a duel Islands map, and still got lower distance maintenance than in this game.

I checked the score mouseover (probably should have done that earlier), and our map has 813 land tiles, 162 tiles per player. On our starting island we have already uncovered 102 tiles, so don't expect it to be much bigger. It looks like we have a central square with some thin land bridges that might even lead to the other players.

So I'm not sure which script was used, but my guess is that it is not really a standard world size, that was probably edited into the world builder file "in post processing" to balance drafting, maintenance from # of cities, national wonders, tech costs, and all that jazz.

We definitely need to scout all the coast before dotmapping this:

Top 5 cities are unchanged. Opponent city sizes are currently 3+2, 3+2, 2+2 and 2+1. As you can't see from the screenshot above, ours are size 3 and 2.

I gave up on the scripts and started messing with map dimensions in the world builder file. It turns out that map dimensions of 58x32 tiles give the correct distance maintenance. All map scripts produce maps whose dimensions are multiples of 4, so I think maybe the map maker has also messed about in the worldbuilder files. Anyway, this should give us an idea of the map size, and it lets me build a more precise sandbox. smile
