Mod Approval Process - Blue Marble

One thing worth mentioning -- if the stock tiles bleed full information about adjacent tiles (even in the fog), then there's no more damage that BM can do. In fact, given BM's "shades of green" color scheme, it seems to make the distinctions harder, if anything, from the limited screenshots shown so far.

I have copied these from the Mod Approval Process and will outline how I plan to provide information to the community so that we can make a decision on this mod. Progress seems good so far. Along with the other evidence, you will need a brief but complete list of what exactly the mod changes. All the files are DDS files. Also, some of them are used by the menu options (start up page, world picker when selecting maps, etc) - I do not think that we need to show screen shots of those as they are not part of the 'game play'.
Here are some more comparison screen shots concentrating on the fog. BM on top, Vanilla below. In all cases there are 3 sets of 4 tiles hidden in the fog. The 2nd set is a repeat of the 1st set but with one type of forest, the 3rd had a different type of tree. If you cannot tell what type of tile is hidden in the fog then good.
grass hills ![]() plain hills ![]() mountains ![]() ice ![]() tundra - easier to see what is under the fog with Vanilla ![]() grass - much easier to see what is under the fog with BM ![]() Yes - I am missing 'plains' & 'Desert' - will add later.
Wow, I'm impressed.
Also, I must admit that I'd not looked too closely at the edges of fog before, but it's really not that difficult to tell which terrain type is under there - with or without BM. The real key may be what information can be gathered about resources under the fog.... Ruff_Hi Wrote:Here are some more comparison screen shots concentrating on the fog. BM on top, Vanilla below. I do, however, still have it ready to go for testing and i'll pick up where you left off here. Are all tile varieties of in the fog, i.e., we can compare how all grassland tiles relate with another grass, a plains, a grass forest, a plains forest, a desert, a grass hill, a plains hill, a desert hill, mountain, coast, river, etc. ~~ if not, this is where i'll pick up...and this should be done for each terrain combo, and then with each resource...or is that too much ~ pholkhero Wrote:Are all tile varieties of in the fog? There are four types in the fog - grass, plains, ice, tundra - repeated 3 times (nothing on them, tree type 1, tree type 2). Note to me: What happened to desert? I am going to move onto hiding resources under the fog and see what that shows.
FloodPlain_baseALL.dds
rice_all_in_one.dds Railroad_128.dds know what these are Ruff?? are equivelent files in Vanilla civ?? I cant' check here at work and if you acn't either, no worries, i'll check at home tonight. pholkhero Wrote:FloodPlain_baseALL.ddsThose three files are (in order) floodplains, rice and railroads. I cannot see how they differ from other similar files. I would guess that the floodplains file is the overlay (ie it goes over the desert graphic to get the floodplains as shown in the game. The rice is an all-in-1 file showing the various views of rice. The railroads file looks like the other railroads file to me. The vanilla civ files are packed up in a pk file. There is a packer / unpacker program here. I've unpacked the asset files and here is an updated compare report that only shows files that appear in both (there are no BM files that are not in the Vanilla set) ... |
