[SPOILER] Augustus of China - gingereagle1969

Square Leg Wrote:No - since the capturing of a worker constitutes an attack, which scouts cannot, your worker should be safe.

It is a different story in ffh in which scouts can attack.

Phew, thought as much ... they can only play with the wildlife

Turn 24 [after being sent a duff save]

I now have FreddieMercury fortified in Craven Cottage just in case something more dangerous than a Scout comes sniffing around. Such is the risk of playing a farmer's gambit, I guess rolleye

Elton is heading back to roam to the West, maybe the climate will suit him [ice & jungle within 12 tiles is most intriguing]

Nothing else to report lol

Turn 25 [dammit! went to bed early & the save arrive roughly at the right time-slot]

Dale, who's not complaining about the "bracing weather up north", has found Clams near the Rice & Cows [or did i not spot them last turn?] so have dotted a potential city:

Elton is still on his trek home.

Freddie is admirably defending Craven Cottage.

George & Joe are racing to Pasture their respective tiles. Joe will win as he had a head start lol When they fininsh the job in hand, Joe will move back onto the pre-chopped Hill & start Mining, George will set up the Road network when the Wheel completes.

OK, can anyone work out why I'm 4th in Soldier points despite having 3 Warriors?

Have therefore queued yet another Warrior [MichaelBarrymore] before the Settler. In addition to evening out the Soldier score, this will allow Craven Cottage to grow to size 3, that way I can work 3 improved tiles [likely to be Wheat, Horse & Clams - although maybe Pigs when building the Settler]

At EOT, the Work Boat completed, and borders popped! jive Finally 1st in something again:

I might have limited access to my sister's PC, if I can persuade her to let me install Civ, so any updates will be quick and mainly without pics.

Turn 26 [my, that turn came around quick ... 2 hours!!]

Anyway ...

Joe finished his Pigs Pasture, ordered to move onto the pre-chopped Hill to now complete that task he started [sod the Mine]. Craven Cottage grew to size 3, will be size 4 in 3 turns thanks to the Pigs Pasture [the city chose to work it], so will slip in yet another Warrior [FrankieHowerd] so I'll be working all 4 improved tiles [Wheat, Pigs, Horse & Clams] to fuel the Settler build and tech Mysticism!

By the way, still 1st in Land Area ... strange the others didn't catch up.

Turn 27

George finished his Horse Pasture this turn, but I elected to work the Clams to balance growth & Warrior production to 2 more turns. This means I can start on the Settler whilst working all improved tiles. If I'd worked the Horse, the Warrior would have completed this turn [I suppose I could have squeezed another one out while allowing the city to grow, but I want my 2nd city, dammit!!] George can road the Horse next turn as The Wheel completed EOT, Joe has started Mining that hill as the chop looked likely to come in too early & I'd lose 3 hammers, or more! Ioan's scout is still skipping along my southern edge, so he may be around when Dairy Cottage is founded.

Off the bottom on GNP [Clams] and 2nd in Crop [Wheat, Pigs & Clams] when the Horse comes online, I will go 3rd on Manufacturing too!! [assuming everything else remains the same duh]

Now, depending when the turn comes around next as to whether I'll post before my net disappears tomorrow.

Turn 28 [came around quick]

George is hooking up the Horse [we will have Chariots] - he can then go on auto-route for the others. I stopped Joe from Mining, he will chop into the Settler next turn.

Update:

T34 came around

In recent turns I have revolted to Slavery.

I have been focussing on expansion, having built a Settler (mostly just building in its own time, but finished with a chop) and then founded to the south (meeting Lincoln in the process as he had a Warrior standing 1 tile to the south of my new culture).

Switched all EP spending to Lincoln for now as I already have Asoka's Graphs.

Also diverted a scouting warrior back to my second city, just as a precaution.

I then started production on another Settler, I spent 1 full turn after the revolt building this, then on the second 2 pop whipped, reducing capital to size 2 completing this Settler which is most likely destined to the north to make a Copper city.

Tech:
A slight change to my current tech path, I completed Mysticism a couple turns ago, but instead of going Masonry next I decided to get a religion first and see what happens. More on this later.

Had to drop to 0% tech this turn having founded my second city, this actually gives me 10 gold, which I don't think will be enough to complete the religion, will check this next turn.

I therefore currently have:
2 Cities, 2 Workers, 1 Settler
And four warriors.

I was in a comfortable third place in all demo's before 2 pop whipping the Settler, this has understandably dropped my demo's and I now show temporarily 4th in most of them, but as I will have quickly gone from 1 city to 3, this should soon push me back to 3rd and hopefully second soon after...

lol

Capital
Overflow from Settler gone into a worker for one turn and then this turn switched to Barracks to grow the city (still size 2 will grow to size 3 end of next turn). Working hardly any hammers though (as working Crabs and Corn) so its saying it will take 17 turns to build will not spend all that time building it will switch back to the worker once I am size 3 and working the Horse tile as well.

duh

Second City
Grew to size 2 end of this turn and is now working the improved Ppigs tile from the capital and an unimproved Cows. Working on improving some tiles around the second city at the moment and have 1 Warrior garrisoned there and 1 protecting the Workers.

Working on building Stonehenge to leverage my leader trait (Industrious).
Due to the trait this should not take too long to build despite it being in my second city and a lot of the tiles I need to improve have forests on them, which I will have to chop anyway!

The decision to make this was to get easy culture into all cities, although I am working at a religion that obviously requires building Missionaries and at first it may be difficult to have them always available for new cities.

shhh

Third City
OK well technically its not a city yet, but the settler is now 2 tiles south of the city site, which will be founded ON the Copper tile, so the Settler has a hill to traverse before getting to the site which a Warrior is already fortified at.

Techs
In my last post I promised to reveal a little more information about my tech plans.

Polytheism is the tech I am currently working towards, I know its more expensive then meditation beaker wise, but I will need to get Monotheism at some point and also I am hoping anyone else that goes for a religion will go for the cheaper one so this should let me land this one in peace.

My first turn with 2 cities saw me at 0% tech to build Gold, I made 10 Gold doing that for 1 turn and on 100% I am currently using 2 Gold per turn, so that's 5 turns at 100%. Which is plenty of beakers to grab that tech jive

Once Poly is in, I will go back on 0% for 1 turn, then I will get Priesthood, allowing me to build the Oracle (notice I have left my capital free for this which will by then be back to its original size or maybe bigger)

Oracle will be VERY quick anyway as its not a particularly hammer costly wonder, with my leader trait its even faster and I saved some forests so I can pretty much finish it at whatever speed I want.

BUT, when Priesthood is in, I will then need to do Pottery as this is going to be essential both for economy and for when I complete Oracle and want Metal Casting for free.

I will build military in my third city which will have Copper and once I hook it up, access to my capitals Horses as well.

I am going to avoid planning any further in advance than this for the moment as things may change in the meantime.

shhh

Oh forgot to mention demos:

I had said I dropped to 4th on pretty much everything when I whipped out the Settler, well its improved:

2nd on GNP and not that far behind lead (but I am currently at 100% and its possible that the tech leader or the person coming 3rd might only be at 80% or 90% so that might look better than it really is)

:neenernee

4th on Manufacturing Goods TBH this is to be expected, I am deliberately working the most food/commerce heavy tiles that I can for city growth and to get these techs completed. And as I only have 2 size 2 cities at the moment this limits the amount of hammers I can utilise.

banghead

(I should climb on this demo soon as my cities will be growing nicely now and my workers will be furiously improving my network of tiles)

2nd on Crop Yield this one I am quite pleased with, as this is a very important stat at this stage in the game.

4th on Soldiers I was higher on this, having pumped out 4 warriors in quick succession, but I have a feeling that the others either have military techs or have started building Axemen or Spearman, as previously stated I started a barracks which will increase my points on this eventually, I also intend to use my 3rd city to pump out military for a while now as I am definitely stopping at 3 cities for the time being until these ones have been developed and I have enough workers to cope with more.

Also I know others are scouting outward at the moment, where as I have recalled all my military into my culture at the moment having done enough scouting to know where I want my next few cities anyway.

Lurkers: if you guys need to know anything or have any comments please post, its nice to see when others are taking an interest. So I would encourage you to ask for any information you want about everything so far.

Another after thought

When I founded my second city I jumped to second on Land Area, which I feel is a good indication that I was the second to get a second city, although its possible someone else had founded one closer to their capital so less of its culture was not already in the culture of their capital?

Anyway, I dropped to 3rd, so I think someone else has founded a second city and its slightly further from their capital than mine is.

Just surmising really
