[SPOILERS - PBEM17] novice and spaceman - Suryavarman of India

Message from Lord Parkin:

Quote:Hi novice and spacemanmf,

As you probably know, I'm subbing for Kyan at the moment in PBEM17. I noticed your proposal of peace to him/me this turn. This puts me in a bit of an awkward position, because I'm only subbing for a week or two, and I'm not sure if or for how long I'm supposed to be continuing this war (Kyan didn't say). Though nothing seems to be happening between us anyway, so I don't know how much of a "war" it really is.

I only understand a little about the declaration on you a few turns ago, as I'm only reading from Kyan's posts. But from what I do understand - from my perspective - it certainly seems rather bizarre as well as somewhat underhand and nasty towards you. Speaking personally, I don't particularly approve of some of the tactics that have been employed against you, and to be honest, we probably wouldn't have been at war in the first place if I had been playing at the time that stuff happened.

That said, all that stuff happened before I started subbing, and this isn't my game to be calling the shots on. If I was taking over permanently, I'd very probably accept your peace proposal right away. However, I'm only here briefly, and I don't want to potentially screw up things for Kyan. So in this situation where I'm not sure whether he'd approve of peace or not (and he's not around to ask for another few days), I'll have to leave things as they are until I can get some input from him. If he's okay with it though, we can of course sign peace as soon as I hear from him.

So yeah, sorry about that. I have absolutely no feelings of ill will towards you though, and I hope the feeling is mutual. I certainly didn't expect nor desire a fight with you when I volunteered to sub in this game.

Kind regards,
Lord Parkin

And our reply:

Quote:I think Kyan's stance was that he wouldn't make the war a hot one unless we did first, and that he wouldn't sign peace if he felt the other players with whom we were at war needed help/protection. At least that's what he told us in chats.
Regardless, feel free to decline the offer, if the other players accept the proposal we'll repropose peace next turn and I see no reason why you shouldn't accept then, in that case.

Cheers,
novice

P.S: Thanks for subbing!
I have to run.

And chat with Darrell:

Quote:18:18 Darrell: Im inclined to take your peace offer although it would have been nice if it came before I whipped a bunch fo triremes
I guess I'd have had to do that anyway to prevent you from just re-declaring in 10t
49 minutes
19:08 me: hi, novice here
19:09 we decided to offer before you had all whipped your civs into the ground
19:10 we did offer peace earlier as well tongue
19:11 Darrell: Terms were a bit different that time :P
19:13 me: so...do you accept these refined terms?
Darrell: Yeah I want to but I'm goiing to see if everyone will at once
19:14 Kyan is out so he can't really vote
me: LP said he had no instructions so he may decline
Darrell: Rego...well let's just say I'm not sure rego's got other's best interests at heart
Ok
19:15 LP can decline but it won't mean much
Anyway I have to talk to shoot

So as we suspected it's one for all, all for one, Rego for himself.
I have to run.

QOTM.
I've got some dirt on my shoulder, can you brush it off for me?

Incidentally, re Lord Parkin, Kyan did offer us a Cease Fire straight away. We could tell him that. It may help others make their decision if they see we've made peace.
And on the sixth day, god created Manchester.

Looking at T71 now. Darrell and Shoot accepted peace, we're still at war with Rego and Kyan.

Ok, well reoffer then since they go after darrell and Shoot in the turn order. Can even offer Kyan a ceasefire if that makes Lord Parkin feel better.

Okay, I reoffered peace to both. Played and sent on. I was somewhat rushed, hopefully I didn't make any silly mistakes.

Chat with Darrell:

Quote:15:45 Darrell: hey
so we accepted the peace in game
shoot and I have a short duration MDP in case you were trying to divide and conquer, just an FYI :P
15:46 me: noted
we wouldn't have offered peace to all of you if we were trying to divide and conquer
Rego didn't accept though
15:47 Darrell: I will talk to him
I think he was wanting to see us destroy each other so he could not be last
me: He's doing well enough
15:48 Darrell: How is he going to keep up in tech?
15:50 me: trade missions?
open borders?
15:51 Darrell: lol
me: oh, you mean with Kyan?
Darrell: the funny thing is even with a dead GM and an embargo you are still kicking everyone's ass
me: that is propaganda
Darrell: I don't think LP is authorized to make peace yet
But that might be stale info
15:52 me: Well Kyan did offer us a cease fire immediately after the stab
Darrell: Just because its propaganda doesn't make it untrue
me: our ass is getting kicked in many respects
city count, for example
crop yield
15:53 which are important long term
exports/imports aren't looking good either
Darrell: im 5th in GNP, 5th in MFG, and average in crop yield
me: so sign open borders?
Darrell: and I am negative in exports/imports
15:54 However
I am tops in life expectancy
Somehow, after whipping so many boats, I am also 1% above average in approval rating
15:55 me: you're tops in life expectancy because your cities are so small
15:56 Darrell: I thought it was all the forests :P
me: cry
I have to run.

T72 played. We're now at peace with everyone.

It looks like we'll beat Darrell by 1 turn to the corn island:

We unloaded an axe and a settler on the corn tile this turn. We should have the iron secured as well, unless Darrell has a settler on this Galley:

Our settler here is on our southernmost galley. Our northernmost galley has two workers on board, I realize looking at the screenshot that I loaded them a turn too soon. They could have unloaded from the city centre. I guess we'll unload them directly on the gems instead.

Our demographics are a shadow of their former self.

We discovered Feudalism at end of turn, so that's our GNP with no prereq bonus.

Next up is Civil Service, then Machinery, Guilds and Banking.
I have to run.
