Nice! Got any pictures?

Will do screen shots of my entire land once I have the internet at my new house.

Turn Played:

Stonehenge discontinued at 2nd city as its been completed elsewhere, not a problem had only just started it on a size 1 city, it got the city to size 2 and I got 3 gold out of it, don't feel I have wasted too much time on it. yikes

Buddhism also founded somewhere, boy am I glad that I went for Hinduism otherwise I would probably have lost out!

I think Asoka got one of the above but I am not sure how I can tell which, my thought is based on his GNP jumping up considerably and I am sure either a wonder or a religion would explain that.

Also helps explain why I dropped from 2nd to 4th on GNP!

Capital: Spent a turn or two growing whilst working on barracks, this is not finished yet but switched back to the worker I am almost done on building, this should finish soon. This worker had overflow from settler being whipped and also 1 turn build already made on it.

2nd City: Was considering a monument until I saw just how many turns it would take to build and as I am getting a religion soon (should be next turn hopefully) and that should go into second city I figured thats not a priority, instead went for chariot for anti barbarian and anti axemen if anyone decides to come for me.

Chopped the cow tile 1 SE of my city, so the chariot will now complete in 4 turns, rather than double that!

3rd City: Not 100% sure if this was a bad city placement, because I founded directly ON the copper it hooks that straight away, BUT all its workeable resources are now on the second ring so until it pops its borders its just a resource drain.

The most important resources are the water tiles, so I started a WorkBoat straight away, this city will be my first place to send a missionary.
It can complete a WorkBoat in 4 turns, it takes a lot longer than that to grow, so it will take me 8 turns to get two work boats out, the capital cannot help with this as the water in question is the wrong side of land from the capital.

Due to founding the 3rd city commerce a turn dropped considerably, does not help that its not roaded yet and my workers are busy to the south (hense why i am building another worker).

In fact once my capital and second city reach size 4 I think they will both build more workers.

Prior to founding:
100% Science was -2 gold per turn and +15 beakers

After founding:
100% Science was -5 gold per turn and +16 Beakers

So this city will slow down my research until I can get it up and running banghead

On the plus side, I think I am first to three cities, as my Land area is now
1st smile

Definitely not going to found any more cities until the ones I have got are all earning me more than they cost me! *eyes the commerce on that fish tile near the 3rd city*

Another Turn Played...

Capital: Completed Worker
Capital Grows to size 4 in another 3 turns
Can complete the Barracks in another 4 turns
Considering switching to work boat to help out the third city.

Question for lurkers: can all my ships sail through any of my coastal cities?
If not my capitals WorkBoats cannot help the 3rd city

2nd City grows to size 4 next turn and completes a chariot at the same time.

3rd City is still pretending to build a WorkBoat with its glorious 1 hammer per turn.

I completed Poly this turn and founded Hinduism, which turned my second city into a holy city had unlocked my second ring instantly jive

There is soo much for my workers to do its lucky that the third worker is now complete, but I am thinking that I need to juggle between more workers, work boats and more military....need to make sure I don't drop any plates!

OK Demo's

GNP this is improving, I am still 4th but I am not far behind 3rd

MFG again still 4th but the gap is closing quite a lot
When my capital grows to size 4 it has a mine ready to start using.

Crop Yield OK not only am I first but by quite a large margin, and not only that I have double the drop yield of whoever is in 4th.

Power not increased this in the last first turns but the chariot finishes next turn, that should help a bit, I will continue to work on my military and hopefully should see an improvement here.

Land Area, still first and with my borders popping in my second city this is looking good.

Congrats! smile

Yeah, boats can go through cities, so your capital could usefully make a workboat for your third city.

Ok not much to update, we only got about 2 turns played in a 3 day weekend, I think Sareln was out surfing for the weekend.

Capital
Built a WorkBoat in the Capital which is bound for the 3rd city, this grew capital to size 4 (size cap is 5 at the moment).

Second city, having finished the first chariot growing to size 4, spent 1 turn on a worker, to add the overflow from the chariot plus 1 turn worth of hammers and then I whipped the city down to size 2 to finish the worker, bringing my worker total to 4.

Third City, as I need that second ring, I decided to start working on a monument, but its a 7 turn build as this city is crazy crap with only its 1st ring which has no resources, everything is in that second ring. Unfortunately cannot use the whip here as the city has no real food, it will take ANOTHER 11 turns to grow to size 2.

I think my priority is to get my copper from the third city hooked to my road network, there is a few more tiles to be roaded to complete this and I have 1 worker doing this at the moment.

2 Workers at the south pastured another pig tile and started roading this, when they complete I will leave the second city for now and get my workers sent to the capital and the 3rd city to get the road finished and chop 1 of the forests in that city to complete the Monument/WorkBoat (there is forests in its second ring it can use for health).

Might as well mine the hill in its first ring while they are there as well!

Tech news, since finishing poly I have had 1 turn of anarchy (to go Hindu), 1 turn at 0% netting me 11 gold and then two turns at 100% at the cost of 10 gold, priesthood is ALMOST finished, so its possible that it can be completed if I put the tech rate on 60 or 70% next turn.

Demo's:
Somehow despite another 2 pop whip I am still second on food.
Again despite the 2 pop whip, apparently I am now 2nd on manufacturing
Still 4th on GNP but I am not bothered about this for the time being
Although 4th on soldiers I am not far short of worst rival and I am still building military, will probably get out another chariot while I wait for copper to be hooked up, then will pull out a few axes to cover every eventuality.

Turn 44

Option to use my sister's PC is over ... she finally got fed up with me calling at all hours to keep track of this game rolf Have pinched her dongle though as BT have still to connect the telephone line, which in turn means I cannot get AOL to supply me with proper broadband! rant Also, Photobucket doesn't seem to like the mobile connection, so no pics, really hope I'm properly connected for the "State of The Nation" round-up at turn 50! banghead

Anyway ...

Switched production in Craven Cottage from Barracks to yet another Worker [LarryOlivier; not sure if LaurenceOlivier will fit lol] This will be whipped next turn and then I'll make a start on The Oracle* [I really hope I land this one as I'm still miffed at losing out on Stonehenge to Ioan76, who I suspect only built it as a steal from me and Sareln] Will time it's build to coincide with landing Pottery so I can grab Metal Casting as the freebie. Now George & Joe have finished playing with the Pigs near Dairy Cottage, they will return to chop into The Oracle if needed.

*Priesthood completes at EOT on 70% tech, wiping out the Gold reserves. Will keep to binary teching; 1 turn @ 0%, 2 turns @ 100%, etc, etc ...

Set a 1-turn Chariot [KennethWilliams] building for further anti-Axe defence. Previously built Chariot [FrankieHowerd] has moved to cover George & Joe on the Pigs, allowing Elton to head off to scout beyond the Ivory Tower dot.

Previously built Worker [WilfredBrambell] is roading to DuracellCottage [hmm, a name-change to Duracell Batt1 may be in order so a Duracell Batt2 can be built in the south where I can see more Copper] and newly-built one [Socrates] is heading to join him in that endeavour

***Gah!! yikes Just noticed that my sister's IE7 wasn't set up for spell-checking nono ... will amend those posts now shhh

Turn 46 [1240BC]

Cool, able to name that whipped Worker as LaurenceOlivier ... now he's off to chop the Forest East of DuracellCottage.

1 turn @ 0% tech netted me 10G, so that's 2 turns @ 100% into Pottery @ -5G/turn. Started The Oracle in Craven Cottage [now Lady Luck, I know it's not a million-to-one chance, but please let me land it] but had a long think about the build time [bear in mind I whipped back to size 2 for Larry rolf]:

at max Hammers [Horse & Mined Hill] it will take 7 turns to build and city grows in 15 turns.

at max Food/Commerce [Wheat & Crabs] it will take 21 turns, but city grows in 3 turns .. suppose that would bring the Mined Hill online soon

BUT, I found a compromise option [Wheat & Horse] - The Oracle takes 9 turns and the city grows in 4! This again means the Mined Hill will come into play to speed things up and I will have George & Joe in the wings to chop if necessary. Pottery will definitely be complete [2 turns @ 100%, 1 turn @ 0%, 1 turn @ 100%] so Metal Casting will be poached!! And I will also be able to have Masonry [I have it queued up] so George & Joe could Quarry the Marble instead; I'm going to have them Road it ready.

Elsewhere, Elton is getting friendly with the Elephants as he heads West.

Barracks building in Dairy Cottage, so it can pump out promoted-military [Axe & Chariot] once the Cooper is linked up!

Turn 51 [960BC]

OK, a bit late for the "State of the Nation" update ... forgot to take pictures at Turn 50

First a round-up of this turn's play.

On opening the turn, Sareln offered Open Borders ... I may regret it, but I've accepted. I'm guessing he's got a unit cut-off by my culture [see later]. Oh well, at least he's being friendly ... unlike Ioan76, who declared War about 3 turns ago & murdered Elton in a totally unprovoked attack [well, I've racked up the EPs on him to take my graphs away tongue]

Craven Cottage:
Socrates is Cottaging, Joe & George are both Chopping into The Oracle. This is due to complete in 4 turns [less the 2 chops] but, as the city grows in 2 turns [from 3 to 4] only 1 of these may be needed. May consider finishing the Barracks, or an Axe, or even a Settler for Duracell Batt2. But I'll need to deal with that Jaguar on my borders first.

Dairy Cottage:
Size 5, no improvements happening. Axe completes in 3 turns, but will whip it next turn [for 1 or 2 pop] as the city grows at EOT. May consider a 2nd Axe here, or build the Settler for Duracell Batt2.

Duracell Batt1:
Wilf & Larry are Cottaging. It's still size 1 and I have a Axe building [taking 2 more turns]. Yes, it's Stagnant, but when the border pops in 3 turns, there's 2 Work Boats in place to improve the Fish & Clams, which will fuel rapid growth and improve GNP at the same time.

OK ... pictures time [taken at EOT].

The World according to Garp:

well, I haven't gone looking for anyone ... they've come to me

List of cities:

And what they're costing me:

A very basic economy:

So, Ioan76, this does mean War!!

Probably not enough units:

Yeah .. we're a bit backward:

But we have the One True Faith!!

And over halfway to victory in one score:

A strong 2nd [even though we're at war]:

And 2 cities in the Top 5!!

Turn 51 [920BC]

Bugger!!!! banghead Ioan76 killed Frankie and stole Joe. Kenneth cannot retaliate with odds of 0.6% into a Forested tile [Joe hadn't chopped it yet]] To add insult to injury, George's chop went into the Axe in Dairy Cottage instead of The Oracle in Craven Cottage!! duh Have still whipped the Axe this turn and the overflow will go into another [I've gimped the growth by working hammers instead of the shared Pigs] Kenneth is standing guard as George cannot move this turn, but Socrates is also vulnerable as he finished Cottaging this turn [he may be too far away from the Jaguar, but I've set him to run to Craven Cottage ... let's hope he gets there!] I fear Ioan'll go for killing a Chariot & nicking another Worker, for the exp, instead of just chasing a Worker. This will mean he'll leave himself exposed to my CI Axe, even though the Jaguar is WIII!!! yikes Of course he could try to choke the Oracle build by standing on the Mine [which I switched to in order to shave a turn off the Oracle, city still grows in 2 turns] If he chooses to choke the build, I'll just switch to the shared Pigs to have the city grow in 1 turn! This Farmer's Gambit is not going well!! Have offered a Peace Treaty, let's see if he's daft enough to refuse shhh

Turn 52 [880BC]

OK ... he didn't accept peace!! banghead He also moved towards Craven Cottage and onto the Mine [which he hasn't pillaged ... yet shhh] so as to choke the building of The Oracle [sorry chum, still on schedule in 2 turns without the Mine and the city grows at EOT jive] Moved Kenneth into city to defend, at least he can't take it in 1 turn!! :neenernee

CI Axe [StephenFry] moved onto the Pigs [he has odds of 92.2%* on the Hill-top Jaguar but can't reach him cry]

Other Axe [MichaelJackson - OK, "Jacko"] is heading down from Duracell Batt1

As if I didn't have enough on my plate with that Jaguar camped outside my capital, there's a Barbarian Warrior yikes in the south near Dairy Cottage, hopefully Sareln's Warrior will deal with it for me. bow

It's not all doom & gloom! At EOT Duracell Batt1's borders finally popped, so I can now improve both the Fish & Clams and work them in that order to grow that city fast! jive

Also another CI Axe [GrahamNorton] has been built in Dairy Cottage ... if Sareln runs away, he can head south to deal with the Barbarian incursion!! jive

*Now, I cannot get my head around these figures:

The Jaguar is showing as 4.3/5, is WIII promoted [total of 2 First Strikes, +10% City Attack, +50% Jungle Strength, +50% Forest Strength] and on Hill [+25% Defence Bonus]

But Stephen's odds are 92.2% because it shows as 5.5 vs 3.44 and, obviously, only takes into account his +10% Strength & +50% vs Melee units and the Jaguar's 2 First Strikes & +25% Defence Bonus - are the true odds only 42.2% then? But what makes up the 0.86 difference in Strength?
