Adv 10 - Biggest Army?

If I win via conquest, then all other armies are eliminated and I have the biggest army by default. Is that the way the game is meant to play or does it mean that I must have any end-of-game army that is bigger than the biggest army ever?

You just have to be #1 in soldiers on F9 when the game ends. The would be obvious with conquest, but it doesn't have to be a military victory.

Just so everybody knows how the Soldiers count works, this thread on Civfanatics explains it:

In brief, you get Soldiers credited for:
- city population (1000 per 2 pop)
- certain military-related techs (2000 to 12000, later techs worth more)
- city improvements (barracks and some small wonders worth 4000-8000)
- units (3000-4000 for most ancient units, rising to 10000 for riflemen and 40000 for modern armor, see that thread for full details.)
