Help with the worldbuilder

Hi, sorry, this is going to be a begging thread. I'm not even sure what I ask is possible. Or maybe it's obvious and I'm just being dense. I've asked at civfanatics but I thought I'd ask here too because at least 2 of the game's developers are here.

I want to start a deity level SG where the capital, once founded, begins with The Internet. I haven't been able to do this using the worldbuilder because I can't find a way to add world projects to cities, only buildings. Also you can't start with US and lots of gold because you can't gold-rush projects.

Also, if it turns out to be possible, it would be great if someone can create the save file for me so that I don't have to look at the world-builder of my own SG.

Thankyou!

Do you want all capitals to be able to build the internet or just the players? You can edit the XML and make it cheap and remove the required tech - then everyone can build it.

If you want the human to build it ... look at one of the scenarios that came with CIV 4 (WWII maybe), you will see (IIRC) some techs that only select civs can research. Take a look at that scenario and create a new tech that is for the humam only and make the internet tech pre-req that tech. Then the human can research the new tech and build the internet. You would need to play the SG under a mod.

OR ... you could reduce the cost of the internet, remove the pre-req tech, start your game and build it (up the population, give the capital hills with mined+railroaded copper and iron to max production). Then, when the project is done, enter worldbuilder (remove the mines, railroads, copper, iron etc) and save the worldbuilder map. Then start a normal game using that worldbuilder map as your template.

If this is for a SG - can I put my name down now to play it?
I have finally decided to put down some cash and register a website. It is www.ruffhi.com. Now I remain free to move the hosting options without having to change the name of the site.

Thanks for the reply Ruff. I wanted only the player to have the internet. Deity level AIs have enough help as it is smile. Re: Editing the XML. I'd rather not have my players have to load a mod to play the game, but if that's the only way to do it then that's what it'll be. In reply to your second question: We'll see wink

My approach would be to edit the XML to set internet cost to 1 hammer and no tech-prereq (put edited projects file in custom assets). Then simply build it on turn 1. Remove the edited XML and the game should proceed normally.

Yep, that works. Thanks Blake.

Yeah, but what is the point playing Deity when you get all the techs for nothing from the Internet ? It's as easy as Chieftain or Noble I would think then. There must be another interesting thing about it... let us know ! wink

Edit: Ah, I just saw it. Interesting one !

Well maybe, maybe not. It was just a wacky idea I had when coming home from the pub. I think it'll be tougher than you're assuming. Deity AIs (and barbs) are much more aggressive than Cheftian or Noble ones and get huge production/upgrade bonuses. So they will have very large armies. Also, at noble you're guaranteed to be tech leader - in this varient you are always in 2nd or 3rd position.

I guess you will be astonished how quick those techs will fly by lol . Well, tech trading off will minimize that effect because some leaders will prefer other tech routes than the opponents. Still I deem you will be on the heels of the tech leaders most of the time. There are always two big guys - or girls, in case of Financial Vicky or Liz. I will be lurking this SG in any case, the idea is nice ! thumbsup
