Hah, five minutes apart, and completely different answers!
I like both answers, though. I think that they are both right for different reasons.

Potluck games are the ultimate in learning about the AI, since they are the only large scale events where, on the same map from the same positions, both humans and AI play every faction.
Definitely, a round of boos for anybody who opens their save, sees a start or Civ assignment short of their ideal desires, and closes the game in disappointment. Like, hey, c'mon and live a little. It's an ADVENTURE! (Well, technically it's an Epic, but you get the idea. ![wink wink](https://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/images/smilies/wink2.gif) )

Actually, I had an idea. What about an event where there were several possible civs to start as, but some starting positions were deliberately a lot better than others? The players then pick a difficulty level when they sign up and get assigned a corresponding start.

I think that asking for clarification is always acceptable, but once you start asking about others' plans and approaches for the game, people might start posting spoilers as a reply.
I can see it now: Compromise's infamously goes down in the annals of RB history with the label "most impressive spoiler in our spoiler-free community." Sorry about that.
Thanks for the replies, looking forward to Closing Day. And to Opening Day too.

Hello everybody!
I just wanted you to know that the dice have been rolled, and I have the save files here. I also have a project that I need to work on this evening, so I won't be back home to mail them out for another couple of hours or so. Once I start mailing, I don't want to stop until everyone's file has been mailed, so that means that everyone will need to wait until later tonight.
So no, I haven't forgotten, and yes, you'll have your file soon. Just not right at this moment.

On behalf of all the RBers, I'd like to give a great thanks to Griselda and Sirian for doing a great job on the Epics and Adventures. If I'm not mistaken, most, if not all the games have been sponsored by Sirian so far. Griselda, just take your time with the mailing. Thank you very much for your time and dedication

I have sent all the saves for Epic Eight by email (for those of you who have signed up already- if you haven't signed up you can still do so until Sept. 18 ). Only one has bounced so far, and I sent a PM to that person.
So, if you didn't receive your save, or something else is wrong, please let me know by private message or by replying to the email I sent you.
Humorous moment- I *did* manage to temporarily rename Dantski "sulla" (with two L's) before I had my routine down pat. Luckily I caught that right away.

Got the save and have had a look at it. It should prove... interesting
Will start playing soon, but after the disaster of my last Monarch game (also Epic) I think a practice game on Monarch will be in order before I start on the Epic.
Thanks to Sirian and Griselda for setting this up. Should be extremely interesting to compare when report day comes.
Now, let's just hope I can keep it below 5 ![smoke smoke](https://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/images/smilies/smoke.gif) moves

Arathorn sponsored Adventure Four.
It's not been for lack of proposals that I've sponsored all the other games.
The Epics schedule has been sealed up tight as a drum since before Civ4's release, with a reprise of Civ3 events adapted to Civ4. Adventures have included Gentle Adventures and some events (like Adventure Two, or Nine, or Eleven), which fill variety gaps not covered by the Epics to date. Then there has also been a need to ramp up over time, making sure the community is ready for what would be offered, and "covering" the range of the base game before running off in to wild variant territory.
This has left not a lot of opportunities so far for community sponsorship. It's not that I haven't gotten suggestions, inquiries, offers and proposals. Some have gone to SG play, some are on the shelf waiting, and some were not ready for prime time.
Folks who sponsored Civ3 events, like Arathorn or T-hawk, know how much load they have to pull in terms of organization to draw full interest. A proposed event that is not ready to go, but still in proposal stage, faces a lot more uphill climb. Yet even if all the eyes are crossed and tees dotted, a concept still needs to fit within the balance of the schedule, not clashing with other offerings, recently played events, imminently upcoming events (which the sponsors won't know about and can't predict for), and should have their own personality. Even the best proposals may have to sit on the shelf until the right opening in the schedule comes along.
I know that we will see a higher ratio of other sponsors over time, just as we did with Civ3. We didn't see our first non-Sirian event there until Epic Nine, though, and here we had one for our fifth game, which was Adventure Four.
