EDIT: Changed this to a succession game.
ORIGINAL:
As mentioned in the welcome thread, I'd like to host another MoM tournament. The first one (at the DS site) was a stunning success, the second one here ran out in the sand as it wasn't that well planned.
The concept is to all play on the same map with the same starting location. Each player will be able to customize his wizard and pick a race. Details of this haven't been decided on, I'd like some input on that first. I'm thinking we either devise a point system, use the original point system or just all use the same setup with different races.
It should probably run for about a month after which reports are posted, with anyone being welcome to submit a game at a later time. Victory should probably be decided by win date, whoever is fastest wins.
Come on, come all!

Welcome back Catwalk. For tournament, I believe I posted my ideas long time ago, which I recommend for implementation. However, for 2 reasons I do not enter at this time:
1. Even the last version of MOM has some bugs, which prevent me from enjoying the game (such as artifact bug)
2. I am too busy at this time playing, but have some time to contribute otherwise.
Good luck all and remember to watch for bugs when you do play the tournament!

Alternatively, we could do a succession game. Anyone could hop on to play a few turns as they please, less of a commitment that way. Any takers?

OK Ill bite on the SG, just to get the ball rolling.
But I warn you, I never actually won any games above hard without serious cheese (like, restarting the game until I had adamantium next to my starting city, or wraithrush or some variation)

Thanks for signing up, if Myrrorball is ready we just need one more to have a decent player pool. I say we go out guns blazing at Impossible anyway We can pick a strong combo and discuss tactics as we go along, I'm sure we can win it. My favourite (strong) race picks:
Halflings
Start out really fast and we get access to their best unit early on. Slingers do best with a lot of buffs, though.
High Elves
Much like halflings, start out much slower but also give you access to a powerful unit early on. Also gives Elf Lords, but you're fine with just using Longbowmen.
Nomads
Very versatile race, giving you strong early units (horsebowmen and pikemen), a great high end unit (rangers) and every economy building. Their trade bonus doesn't matter much, but it helps.
Dwarves
Awesome race. Start out really fast, you get access to their power unit (Hammerhands) reasonably early and their power unit is amazing. My #1 pick for an easy game, well worth the 3 extra picks for Myrran.

What version? Do we use insecticide?

I'd prefer Insecticide, even if it's a little brutal.

Should we allow cheese like wraithrush, artifact farming, starting mithril/adamantium, ladder buying and similar fagasseries?

I'd prefer a setup that isn't mono colour or artificer/runemaster. Some variant of Life with Warlord, probably. And yeah, I think we should pick a decent starting site which doesn't have mithril or adamantium. Whether or not to use ladder buying is up for debate, I'd prefer not using it but don't mind if others want to. I do use limited ladder buying in that I'll buy stables when I want a shrine and my production is 7 or 10.

Signing up, if you're willing to be patient with me if I take a few days to play.

My first choice. My favorite game setup is halflings + 4 life + alchemy + warlord + archmage. Add in Myrran for some real cheese, otherwise probably one book of each color.

Third choice. Slow growth can be a problem.

Fourth choice. Nomads look great on paper, but I've never had much success playing them, probably mostly because of their abysmal resistance.

Second choice. Probably better than halflings, but slower to get off the ground. Same setup as halflings above. Endurance, just cause, heroism.
