In case some of you never noticed, we have a small MoM community on these forums We have a bunch of fanmade projects and are about to launch a succession game, drop by to say hi if this little gem ever held a place in your heart. And if I get in spam trouble for this post, many apologies in advance
We could post our game reports here if anyone is interested in following it.

That would be nice. I've wanted to play MoM for quite a while, but my computer hates it. I've tried DOSbox and everything. My problem was that i'd run the install, it would tell me that it's finished and i should type "magic" to start it, and when i do it tells me i have to install it first
Enough about me and my computer troubles. I've noticed the community for MoM here, and i occaisionally pop by and read about what i'm missing out on
I'd love to read about your wacky hijinks. Please do.
And if i get in trouble for replying to a spam post, I apologise in advance :neenernee

I've had that problem too, if I recall correctly it had to do with a faulty abandonware version. It's only $6 on gog.com, well worth it IMO. But you can also look for a different abandonware version, it should work.

It might also have something to do with me having no clue how DOSbox works and just pressing random buttons

Hm, I remember playing this game on my old 486 DX2/66 years ago...
The only thing I still remember from that game is that after some time my hero with ranged attack was so powerful that together with the right army I could just run around and kill everything off without any losses.

MoM is ridiculously balanced, but still great fun. kyrub has made a patch which improves the AI, and I'm working on a mod which balances out most options quite a bit. Heroes are indeed overpowered, although they have a nasty tendency to be killed by Crack's Call and Lightning Bolt when up against the enemy wizards.

I'd be happy to read these stories, I've never played the game, but it looks cool so I'd be down for that.

MoM is great fun, ridiculous balance and all. Haven't played in quite a while, but I had a version working under DOSBox at one point. I think that was on the computer before my current one, though....
I would definitely be interested in following the SG, and will check out the mods. Better AI would make the game more challenging, although fighting the randoms tends to provide a good bit of that anyway.

Only reason the AI is a bit of a challenge is that it gets +300% to various stuff at Impossible
MoM should work fine with DOSBox on any system, although Windows 7 is a bit cranky as always.

After playing around with MoM some again, I think I'm convinced that there's not much difference in difficulty between Hard and Impossible. The problem is that the AI isn't very good at combat, so with any strategy that has a reasonably powerful opening offense, it's not too hard to go capture one of the AI's mega-cities and supercharge one's economy.
