[SPOILER] Augustus of China - gingereagle1969

Turn 98 [740AD]

Ioan's added another Axe to his stack ... no matter, I think I have enough units ready to attack next turn ... plan of attack:

unpromoted Spear -> unpromoted Axes -> promoted Spears -> promoted Axes

Typical!! You wait ages for religion to spread, you build a missionary, get him in place to convert a city & what happens? As if by magic, Rose Cottage sees the light & converts to the one true faith [for now anyway]. Oh well ... hello Sareln tongue

Apart from that .... Moai Statues completed in Duracell Batt1, nice looking Water tiles: 2F1H3C jive

Turn 99 [770AD]

Grr  sneaky, smeggin' toe-rag! Ioan managed to killa stack of 4 units [can remember if it was 3 Axe & 1 Spear or 2 of each] with only a loss of 1 Axe and a Catapult!! I was going to attack this turn [did anyone tip him off, so he pre-empted it?] but now I'll have to get more units into place ... and he's added to his stack [I'm sure Chariots weren't there before] ... double grr

In response ALL cities are building [or have queued to build] a 2nd Archer & a Spear for defence - at least the happy-cap will increase thanks to HR! Speaking of which, temp lowered that in Ivory tower by sending both old Warrior units [FreddieMercury & Michael Barrymore] up to the front-line [DaleWinton is on Worker-escort duty up north near the Mouton D'Or site] I'm going to run out of names, unless I re-use the fallen as mark-II's.

Iron Working completes this turn @ 100% .. hopefully the power spike will worry Ioan.

Ellen defended against another Barbarian Warrior, so I'm now sending her up to the front and replacing with a newly-built Axe [it takes the same number of moves to do this as it is to send the new Axe to the front tongue]

As I will be settling Mouton D'Or shortly, have sent the spare Missionary up to the site ready to convert it.

EOT: The borders of Ivory Tower popped, so the weakest stack [in terms of promotions] now has a culture-bonus to defence jive Iron was un-covered in the Mined Hill east of Rose Cottage smoke

Hmm .. my UU is the Cho-Ko-Nu [improved Crossbowman - 2 first strikes, Causes collateral damage, +50% vs. Melee Units] Will do Machinery next then ... delay Calendar until it's really needed. Damn! That's c.15 turns @ 0% and 7 turns @ 100% banghead

Turn 100 [800AD]

Before I do the full round-up/state-of-the nation bit, I've always wondered why turn 100 is the year 800AD, and not 1000AD, for example. here's what wikipedia has on the year:

Quote:Year 800 (DCCC) was a leap year starting on Wednesday of the Julian calendar. It was around this time that the Anno Domini calendar era became the prevalent method in Europe for naming years, so from this time on, the years began being known as 800 and onwards.

Events

By place

Europe

December 25 (Christmas Day) – Pope Leo III crowns Charlemagne Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire in Saint Peter's Basilica in Rome.

Mesoamerica

Itza culture starts in Mesoamerica (approximate date).

Births

Nominoe, first king of all Brittany (approximate date)

Deaths

June 3 – Staurakios, chief minister of the Byzantine Empire
Saint Alkelda

Maybe Sid was a fan of Charlemagne ... or Wednesday :rolf

Anyway ... on with the update

Firstly, the War with Ioan:

It's still only in one area ... thankfully. However, there have been some developments ... he's killed 2 more Axes [sadly I have to report the death of MichaelJackson ... oh, and that of CynthiaDixon] And he's put a border city down. At least I'm stopping him working/improving the Jungled Pigs and from Mining a Hill, but I see a Gold tile behind the mountain-range, and he has a Worker about to Mine it. Hmm ... Pigs & Gold ... I'll raze this city [eventually] and settle Cochon D'Or as planned:

Those screen-shots were taken after ending turn

Annoyingly the new units built have dropped the G/turn to +17.

Horse-Back Riding will take 2 turns @ 100% but I'll need to stay @ 0% for another 4 turns to afford it.

Machinery is queued and I calculate 22 turns @ 0% to fund 8 turns @ 100%

So, after 37 turns, plus unit build time, loan can expect Horse-Archers, Maces & Cho-Ko-Nu knocking on his city gates tongue

Turn 103 [860AD]

Turn came it just as i was about to shut-down ... thankfully it's pretty much the same as last 2 turns

100%: 98 beakers @ -57G/turn
0%: +20G/turn

2-turn HBR still needs 3 more turns @ 0% then

Will settle Mouton D'Or next turn ... once it grows into working the Gold tile it should pay for itself.

Turn 104 [880AD]

Strange thing popped up when I opened the turn ... Nicolae offered me one of his excess Rice ... for nothing!! I don't have anything spare that he needs, so I guess that's why he didn't ask for anything.

Oh well, it would be rude to decline ... just wonder what he's after ... an unofficial alliance? rolf

OK, I named and moved some more units. A new Chariot [AndyBell] has been sent to rose Cottage to deal with the Barbarian problem there - a Warrior is standing on the Iron tile ... grrr.

Think I'll send a stack of Axes around the Mountain range to pillage/unhook the Gold tile the other side of Ioan's new city. Although i did happen to notice some Barbarian culture bleed to the South-West, may investigate that with a Chariot and/or my sentry-Axe.

Talking of new cities ... have settled Mouton D'Or and GNP improved .... ish!

100%: 110 beakers @ -65G/turn
0%: +23G/turn

Mouton D'Or grows in 4 turns, so the Gold revenue can be added then jive

Turn 105 [900AD]

Blasted Barbarian Warrior destroyed my iron mine ... well he wasn't banking on AndyBell [Chariot] ... Barb killed and Andy's now on sentry duty outside Rose Cottage.

In addition, more units named and getting together that stack to outflank loan's city.

Hmmm ... moved StephenGately [anti-Barb-sentry Axe] towards the Barb culture bleed and it vanished to be replaced with a sentry-Jaguar. Looks like Ioan razed that city .. grrr!! Already moved another Axe & ordered a new Chariot [RupertEverett?] to rendez-vous down there, so let's have a game of tag with the Jag! rolf

OK, the economy:

0%: +22G/turn
100%: 111 beakers @ -67 G/turn

Have 116G banked, so that's 1 more turn @ 0% to have the 134G to fund HBR.

Hang on, could I tech differently?

0%: HBR in 201 turns +22G/turn = +4422G [nice]
10%: HBR in 15 turns +13G/turn = +195G 11 beakers/turn = 165
20%: HBR in 8 turns +4G/turn = +32G 22 beakers/turn = 176
30%: HBR in 6 turns -5G/turn = -30G 33 beakers/turn = 198
40%: HBR in 4 turns -14G/turn = -56G 44 beakers/turn = 176
50%: HBR in 3 turns -23G/turn = -69G 55 beakers/turn = 165
60%: HBR in 3 turns -32G/turn = -96G 67 beakers/turn = 201
70%: HBR in 3 turns -41G/turn = -123G 78 beakers/turn = 234
80%: HBR in 2 turns -50G/turn = -100G 89 beakers/turn = 178
90%: HBR in 2 turns -59G/turn = -118G 100 beakers/turn = 200
100%: HBR in 2 turns -67G/turn = -134G 111 beakers/turn = 222

I've stayed with binary ... but that 60% rate does look tempting. Probably beaker overflow [as, quite honestly, some of those figures do not add up as 201 beakers still required to complete HBR] and I would have been left with 30G in credit - guess I'm trading 26G for an extra 22 beakers overflow.

OK ... demos:

As the race for 2nd place hots up [Nicolae has run away with this game] and our scores converge, so do our Power ratings [if I'd bothered to take pictures of the Score & Power graphs you'd notice a bit of correlation]

I'm now 2nd in population as I've allowed the cities to grow, there's still a lot of happy-, and health-, cap to soak up and a fair few good tiles still to work [especially in Duracell Batt1 with a net gain of 1F/1H/3C per coast tile].

Might be able to squeeze out a 7th city soon - Duracell Batt2 is most likely as the Wine is ready to work. Will have to fight Sareln for control of the Fish [which he's not improved] but if I convert the city to Hinduism as soon as it's settled it may not be too much of a problem.

Turn 106 [920AD]

The economy's skewed again, and I cannot see why:

100%: 116 beakers @ -72G/turn
0%: +21G/turn

Sod it! I want HBR!!! I'll tech @ 90% [105 beakers @ -63G/turn] - it still takes 2 turns so I get a little overflow into the next tech and a few coin left over. 2 cities grow this turn, which may improve things slightly, however 5 buildings complete as well which may counter any gains [although they do include Temples wink]

Dairy Cottage: building a small garrison ready to settle Duracell Batt2 [Archer -> Archer -> Spear -> Settler queued]

That Jaguar's moved away ... not a bad city site there actually, Pigs, Spices & another Marble source in the BFC ... Spice Pig And Marble, eh? Spam Cottage it is then rolf

Ended turn: 90% now gives 113 beakers @ -64G/turn. HBR completes at end of next turn [166/239] So, barring checking out 100%, I'll have 11G left over & get 40 beakers overflow into Machinery. smoke

Ooh ... caught sight of Ioan's current tech ... he completes HBR at the same time as me
