  • Net Profit and Farmer's Market grew and hired spies. Fix that. (Change to scientists) Done
  • Hire two scientists in Bull Market and give a farm to Horsetrading so it grows in 1. Done Build a missionary for "filler" here after the courthouse. Queued
  • Scientist in Tipping Point, and build a work boat for Fish Island. Done
  • Courthouse and Engineer in Financial Trap. Done
  • Work farm in Channeled Funds and give the fish back to Pyramid Scheme. Done
  • Hire a merchant in Investment and halt growth. Done
  • Road the "filler" spot so we can found the city the turn the settler completes. Done
  • "filler" works the silks until the granary is done, then borrows the clams to grow? Don't chop the granary until confucianism has been spread there. To do

In fact I set Net Profit to work a coast to grow in 1 rather than 2. It can hire two scientists next turn and two-pop whip the market when available.

Here's Investment, with a Great Person due imminently.

The future warzone is developing. We can destroy any road he puts on that neutral jungle tile to slow him down. We could leave the grassland tile free too, hoping a jungle will spread to slow him down further. At max research, we are about 11 turns to Rifling, but we're far from being able to run max research. Our NAP is 7t. I don't really see how we can defend that city if he commits, but we'll have an enemy for life in that case.

Our settler sets sail with a longbow for company, settling three turns from now. Shoot may well not be happy. Well, he killed our Great Merchant.

Dave switched to Pacifism (I think I called that!).

As promised, some words and pictures. Our intrepid longbow and settler landed on the island on the other side of the world between us and Shoot. It probably won't last long if Shoot is gunning for us, but hey ho. Novice is favouring on the south of the island because it's closer to rego's marble island. The game suggested the north tile, but I'm not sure on what grounds. The workboat is timed perfectly to net the fish straight away.

In the north, Gold Rush starts on another settler. University production continues.

In the south-east, lots more universities being built. I triple-whipped the courthouse at Hostile Takeover since it was working lots of coast and it has high maintenance.

In the mid-west, we settled yet another city, called Material Gain.

Here is our new city, seemingly a financial positive, although it doesn't take into account the number of cities maintenance.

And finally, the far west. The Forbidden Palace finishes in Horsetrading at EOT. I moved the chariot down to Net Borrower to avoid it going into unhappiness, although we should be able to whip the forge next turn anyway.

So, the university in Capital completes in 4 turns, so we can whip any cities behind that to complete at the same time, then turn on max research for a little bit whilst building banks. Then turn it off while waiting for Oxford University.

Gunpowder next?

The power graphs show Shoot continuing to build up.

Demographics.

Our EPs against darrell and rego are quite healthy. We have 98 & 96 against them respectively, accruing 7 EPs/turn (well 6 for rego currently, but that will change following the courthouse). We only need 111 & 123 EPs respectively to see research.

After the end of the turn, we got a Great Merchant from Economics (I put research to 10% to get it in 1 turn), plus Investment popped a Great Engineer, the use of which is as yet uncertain.

F1 screen after EOT. Damn, doesn't fit on one screen any more. I guess that's a good thing... =)

Oh and someone popped a Great Scientist last turn.

Hmm, if we need 7 universities, are we going to be a little short on getting the 7th in place?

It's standard world size, so we only need 6.

The Janissary that Shoot the Moon finished in Bursa last turn did not stay in place. Red flags are waving.

Is it worth contacting Shoot to see what his objectives are? I get the feeling he may have decided to just go all-in against us, given his tech path and recent lack of expansion.
I have to run.

Damn, playing two different games that are in some ways similar but with lots of subtle differences is confusing.

Yeah feel free to draft something. His build up is not exactly subtle. I'd expect notification reasonably soon.

We just need to hold out for rifles...
