RB NFL Fantasy Football

Since I managed to hijack this thread in spectacular fashion, I thought it'd be wise to create a separate thread for signups for an NFL fantasy league this fall. This should cut down on confusion of both signups running in the same thread.

I can create the league, and I'll likely run it on ESPN, as I've run many leagues on ESPN in the past, so I'm familiar with all the options. Scoring and such will be pretty normal to make it easy on any of those who may be newcomers to fantasy football.

We need 10 players total to do a league (anything less than that makes for a kind of silly format IMO), and we can expand it to 12 if there is sufficient interest, but I'll cap it there. So far, the following have at least expressed interest:

1. scooter
2. Lewwyn
3. Twinkletoes
4. Gaspar

I would *really* like to do a live draft for this kind of thing (it's very fun), but I recognize that it may be near-impossible with the wide variety of timezones we have here.

Oh man, I haven't followed football like I should for a while(Like a year, lol)...

I forget, is ESPN free?

Okie Dokey. This'll be my first attempt at it actually even though I'm an avid fan.

Yep, it's free. Is that a signup?

If you're already a fan, you'll pick it up quick. I got into it years ago, and I stuck with it because it made a lot more games meaningful, as I had a rooting interest in far more games.

Doesn't look like a league will be starting up at work, so I'm in, if you'll have me smile
You can get a look at a t-bone by looking up the bulls ass but I'd rather take the butcher's word for it.

I'd like a spot as well.

Some preferences:

1) Live draft, but with software that supports auto-drafting for players not able to make a live draft. Yes this is somewhat unbalancing, but a live draft is a huge chunk of the fun.

2) Conventional scoring, not PPR.

3) WR3 spot instead of a flex. So: QB, RB1, RB2, WR1, WR2, WR3, TE, K, DEF.

4) 8-12 teams. I actually don't think 8 is too bad. Yes the teams are strong, but I think it's playable.

5) Relatively liberal rules in keeping with both a spirit of good sportsmanship and the "seek additional challenges" credo. So I'd suggest no limit of waiver pickups or trades, and no trade vetoing.

6) And of course no individual defensive players. Sorry regoarrarr wink

Eh...

I think I will wait just a bit before committing, time issues and all.

I'm pretty clueless when it comes to this, could you guys point me in the way of some instructions on what exactly will happen in a live draft and basic essentials for picking players?

1. I strongly agree, FWIW, so this should probably be the plan. ESPN allows you to set rankings, and the draft software will auto-draft for you based on your rankings (or you can leave ESPN rankings as they are) if you are not there and/or you have to leave early.

2. Yep

3. Curious what your reason is on this? I mean it's fine with me, but I'm curious what the reason is. I suppose it does tilt the RB/WR balance to be a bit more even - is that the reason?

4. 8 is doable - I'd suggest adding another starting spot to balance it and/or introducing a QB2 to the starting lineup if we went with 8.

5. Agree on all this. No reason to have trade vetos with a familiar group like this - not expecting collusion to be an issue at all.

6. Agree.

I'm trying to do some looking for a good article that summarizes everything, but if you want a quick run-through on what a live draft is like, check this out:

http://games.espn.go.com/ffl/mockdraftlobby

You can do a mock draft here that means nothing really - it's meant for testing drafting strategies or something, but you can get a good look at how it works. I'll drop a link here if I can find a good article that explains the basics.
