This thread is a split from Tasunke's thread, where discussion was drifting toward a new CTON (Can't Talk Or Negotiate) FfH PBEM game.
The concept: no communication between players, other than the allowable selections on the diplo screen (i.e., you can propose trading wine for gems, demand 100 gold, propose a peace treaty, etc., but can't add any extra text).
With the following (negotiable) exceptions:
- no tech trading
- no city gifting/trading
Apparently, this is really an "AI diplo" game, and I should have named the thread more descriptively.
Final cast of characters, in playing order:
DaveV - Alexis of Amurites
Ichabod - Arendel of Bannor
Ilios - Dain of Svarts
Tholal - Thessa of Kurios
Tasunke - Perpy of Sheaim
Llewyn - Falamar of Sidar

This gets my vote, except for the Unique features, which I suggest we remove.

I won't be signing up for this but...
As one of the most famous thread updaters + communicators in Civ games here even I feel like zero talking between players is a bit boring. The game wouldn't be particularly interesting to lurk and may feel a bit like a single player game rather than a multiplayer one.
Player interraction makes things (more?) interesting for lurkers, while keeping the players interest in a game is the most important thing I jst wanted to share my view.

I agree completely. I'm flexible on all this stuff, but I really don't think I can play anything other than a CTON.

I disagree. I've been following FFH XI, and I think it's been an interesting and exciting game, even without several pages of chat dumps . If the player keeps us updated on his thoughts and plans, I think the thread can still be entertaining. There will be plenty of opportunities for interaction using the diplo screen; it's not a pure AW game.
And if it does turn out to be essentially an SP game against a (much) more competent AI, I'd be happy with that experience.

I'm interested in playing it!
I don't have much time to do diplomacy either and I'd like a game without huts and lairs. Even though FFH is imbalanced in a lot of aspects, it's not fun when an opponent gets a Great Person in turn 3 and you get a bunch of Mistforms trying to compensate.
I don't mind Orthus or events, though.
And may I suggest some sort of way to restrict leader picks. I wouldn't mind lurker picks leaders/civ, for example.

Speaking as a player in FFH XI, playing with no diplo doesn't feel at all like a SP game. Although I do miss being able to chat with other players about the map, how our civs are handling, strategies etc., I have absolutely no love lost for spending hours in chats and writing emails, and having to deal with the consequences of carrying on a constant diplomacy with everyone else. It's not that I think that I'm necessarily bad at diplo or that I hate talking to people- but playing a CTON does feel more like a true test of FFH skills. Plus I figure I can talk about the game with all of the other players once it's finished =)

+1
I agree with Bob and DaveV that diplo isn't needed per se to be interesting to follow for Lurkers.
DaveV, could you update your first post to list the interested players so far?

My problem with Orthus is that he usually ends up dying and giving his axe to a civ at the cost of a few warriors. +1 Fire and blitz is a big deal.
Some of the FfH mechanics are intimately tied to events, and I don't think there's any way to turn events off. I'd just as soon leave Living World turned off, though.

Yeah, it might be fun to use some of the less common civs. Some ideas:
- lurkers pick civ and leader for each player, possibly with the goal of giving the weaker civs to the stronger players
- lurkers pick a list of ~10 civ/leader combos; players pick from them
- players pick a list of ~10 civ/leader combos, then pick from that list (there was a BtS game that used this scheme)

No problem about Orthus. I don't mind him being off.

About the last option, I was reading the PBEM that used it some time ago and I found it pretty interesting. We should add that you cannot choose the leader/civs you picked for the pool (like they did in the BTS game), though.
All these options sound nice to me too.
