Why can't we capture Great People?

Just asking, is it just me or can people not capture Great people? And if so, why not?

No, you cannot capture Great People. Can you imagine how powerful it would be to snag a Great Engineer? (The AI doesn't go out of its way to protect its Great People.)

For the record, you couldn't capture Great Leaders in Civ3 either. smile
