Mod Approval Process: Blue Marble v2

Firstly, sorry for starting another thread on this. I did so as the other one has become 5 pages long and (to my way of thinking) is now full of redundent and confusing material.

I've finally completed my comprehensive review of BlueMarble (see attached) and now submit it for approval. The final document is a 17 md pdf and I'm assuming it is too big to attach. It can be found at ...

I have finally decided to put down some cash and register a website. It is www.ruffhi.com. Now I remain free to move the hosting options without having to change the name of the site.

Well done, Ruff. Thanks for your hard work. This is a mod whose only purpose is to further immerse the player into his world. I think anyone with the necessary processing oomph ought to be able to use this in any event.

Wow! Looks like you've put a lot of work into this Ruff. I don't see any "gaming" issues that should stop this being approved. Might use it myself after reading this!!

Nice effort, ruff. I salute your hard work.

Browsing through the shots you have shown, I think this clearly indicates that the Blue Marble Mod affects only the graphics, and does not seems to leak anymore information on the terrian than the original in-game graphics.

Although I don't use the mod myself (actually, I find the original graphics to have better contrast than BM, and thus like it better for an old pair of eyes like mine), I can't fathom why anyone would object to its approval.

Phew! Yeah, great work Ruff!! Thanks for picking up my slack, but i fell into the GreyFox camp: i prefer the clear contrast the plains provide me :D

Thank you Ruff! Now I can only hope the powers that be approve this, as I didn't buy a higher-end PC to be able to look at cartoonish textures. I do admit BM makes the plains harder to distinguish, but it still takes like 2 seconds to tell which is which, and there are plenty of other "gamey" graphical effects that could have made it into the game but didn't in the interest of making things look pretty.

Sullla Wrote:I've gone through Ruff's lengthy report on the Blue Marble graphics mod, and I cannot see any reason why it should not be approved. IMO, it should have been approved months ago... but I think this just fell through the cracks. If anything, Blue Marble makes it MORE difficult to spot resources, not less - it certainly doesn't provide a gameplay edge. Everyone should give Ruff a round of applause for going beyond the call of duty in preparing such a thorough report on the issue. thumbsup (Ruff, I particularly enjoyed your running commentary throughout the report. About all I can say on some of those things is that ColdFever, the creator of Blue Marble, is kind of a weird guy.)

Blue Marble is hereby approved for all future RBCiv Tournament events. Gris, can you possibly update the RBCiv page with this information? Thanks.

To anyone interested in approving future mods for our events, I can only suggest following the model provided by Ruff for Blue Marble. No, you don't have to create a 53-page .pdf file, but you DO have to answer the questions provided by Sirian and provide screenshot evidence to back up your findings. The more information you can provide, the better your chances of getting a mod approved.

I hope this will make some folks a little happier. smile
